I saw someone go off about how this is closing yet Tootsie is still open. Like sorry “stans” but people are more likely to see that because they’ve seen the movie than this show, even if people did want to see this.
"

I've seen plenty of times when a favorite show closed that people on this board have talked about being "totally gutted", the injustice of its closing and what and who to blame for its failure or said they can't believe it's closing while (fill in the blank) is still running. Is that the criteria we're using for being lumped in the dreaded "stan" category?

was not my cup of tea but the score had its moments and the cast was pretty good. I especially found Salazar/"Michael in the Bathroom" to be incredibly touching. Like the Prom, I don't think this was ever capable of expanding beyond a somewhat niche audience, but wish them all the best going forward.

I’d be shocked if this doesn’t tour non-equity. Wonder if they’ll announce it closing night?

Has anyone, anyone, actually seen an official closing notice on any of the sites, oh, like this one?  I looked here and elsewhere and haven't but maybe they're just late in getting the news?

It's on over a dozen websites but if you need official confirmation, it's right there on their website

Plus Joe Iconis literally announced it at the show tonight, after the curtain call.

Joe Iconis also announced it on stage after tonight's performance. It was streamed live on their Instagram and should still be up if anyone is interested.

Discovered the show online around the time it was rising in internet fame, saw it off broadway and really enjoyed it for the most part, fans were intense, and it didn’t strike me as a show that should transfer, so I wasn’t surprised by the reception, lack of noms, or closing, but man that Iconis performance of ‘Broadway, Here I Come!’ hit hard... definitely a tear jerker.

Really enjoyed the performance given from this cast- they were great. A couple of awesome songs too (Michael in the Bathroom and Do You Wanna Ride for certain). The overall story however...I guess the "teen musical heir to Dear Evan Hansen" takes were way too hot...

Calm down.  At the time I looked it was actually on none of the theater sites, including this one.  I guess it is now.

Um, I think you misspelled "needy".  Your post didn't really merit a thank you.  It merited the response it was given.

Well, if nothing else, this will demonstrate the commercial viability relying entirely on being viral. A million streams of the album means nothing if those people don’t buy tickets.

Same thing happened with Anastasia and Band's Visit.  One bad word about Band's Visit and the crowd went nuts, but the Anastasia thread was filled with criticism.

As someone who still thinks they should've gotten a Tonys shout-out, this made me LOL.

I really hope Tiffany Mann makes it back to broadway soon. She's such a powerhouse.

Don't a lot of shows that fail to recoup on Broadway make the money back -- albeit slowly -- via tours, licensing, etc?  I feel like with a couple of lyric changes, this show could be a steady earner in high school and community theater for a long time.  It seems like measuring commercial viability by the length of an initial run is only measuring a small part of the business.

I thought the same thing.
"

Is this joy happening in a different thread? I'm mostly seeing"Not my favorite show, but I feelfor the cast/crew" sentiments.
"

I assume the author of the snarky post (who is consistently one of the most insightful and entertaining here, in my opinion!) realized that they'd done the exact same thing they were critical of in the Prom thread, and changed the wording.  It's the Internet -- it happens.  No harm, no foul.

I do wonder if this will tour. Either way, be prepared for every high school and community theater to do this as soon as the rights are available.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

With that opening to Act II? Not without some heavy editing.

And it won't play my high school Well, not before I retire, anyway.

Haven't the rights always been available, even during the Broadway run? I thought I read somewhere that the producers kept them available and there's even been regional productions while it was on Broadway.

Yes rights have always been available for the original, pre-broadway, material.  We had a local high school do it in the fall and a small regional theatre has it on tap for the summer.
