Can it? Of course.
Will it? I'm sure not even the producers know the answer to that right now.

“Can’t this just stay a movie?”
The original soundtrack is good cause it’s great songs of the time.
This is just another “this movie is about music so it should be a musical right?” adaptations

I feel the same way. It's a good move for them to use "Tiny Dancer" but the rest of the soundtrack is terrific, and whatever new score is written is not gonna be as good as the songs in the movie.
I think I need to check this one out. Like many, I love the movie and basically wore out the CD when it came out. This could bomb, or just be lackluster in comparison to the movie, but San Diego is weekend-getaway driving distance from me and I think I'll regret not checking it out. I'm glad I saw this before tix go onsale tomorrow!
If you have never seen the director's cut of this film, I highly recommend it. There's a lot of really funny stuff that got edited out of the commercial release -- it's worth tracking down, and I hope some of it finds its way to the stage.

I am deeply jealous of all of you seeing this, have the BEST time!
Every time I see this thread, I misread the title as Absolutely Fabulous Musical, and I so want that.

I wouldn't want that. I have no interest in seeing anyone other than Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley as Edina and Patsy, so unless it was a film there would be a very short life for a musical version. I also don't see either of those characters being enhanced by having them burst out into song to explore their inner lives.
