Be more chill will crash and burn if it went to Broadway. Its fad is slowly coming to in end.

This season is weak as water... if I were a producer I would be trying to get this on Broadway right now, too!

I think this could do really well, especially in what's so far looking like the weakest season this decade. I can't recall a well-liked & positively reviewed original music with a pop/rock score that hasn't done well in recent memory. I could see this being a strong Tony contender!

Went to the show for the 2nd time last night. The first time I went it was 90% teens and their parents and we felt completely out of place. I prepared my show companion appropriately this time.

Last night the audience was roughly 80% adults (overwhelming average age of probably 35-40). There was a small pocket of teens in the back.

Mostly an invited show perhaps? It was completely unexpected.

Like i memtioned earlier in this thread, the hype over be more chill is dying with teenagers. We have moved onto the next thing. If they brought it in last season, it would have been big.

Is it? They’ve seemed pretty excited from what I saw at the shows. What’s the thing they’ve moved on to?

I should have mentioned several people in the audience were waving to the band before it started, which is why I thought it might have been mostly an invited show.

Ahh. On social media and the broadway accounts I follow, about a year ago be more chill was everywhere. Now its going into Mean girls and the teens are obbsessed with the cast show etc.

I fear that once Hadestown, and Everyone is talking about jamie transfer. Be more chill will be bumped out of the “popular slot” with teens.

I agree, I thought mean girls was bad. The lyrics were horrible. I think people just like it cause of the cast.

Teens like pretty people. If a cast is full of pretty people, no matter how bad the show is, teens will flock to it.

I second this, there are so many teens I know (personally and online) who flocked to this show because they thought the Will's or George were attractive. I don't see it really, and George could be some of their fathers, but to each is own...

As to those saying it is dying out, that is because of fans from last year (Early Hansen era to late Hamilton era) leaving since other fans (Post Tonys 2017 is the usual marker) have truly done stuff to tamper with and/or ruin the show for them. That's the other downside to fan powered shows: When a show is overpowered so it drives away the power it would have gotten. I'm still holding on to it going to New World Stages or a very limited run in a small theatre (Like Lyceum or Booth)

The pretty thing also applies to all the Mean Girls love. That cast is FULL of eye candy for teens, so they're gonna flock to it. They damn sure don't love it for the message, because they prove time and time again that the message of the show/movie goes in one ear, and out the other.

I think except for Jason Tam, The BE MORE CHILL Actors were not cast for their looks.

Agreed. As a teen personally I don’t really find any of them attractive they all look like they’re their age which is fine but people but people my age tend to be attracted to early twenties looking people.

Also I truly don’t think it’s about looks. If you go on tumblr you don’t see people saying stuff like “omg will is so hot!” It’s more like “I relate to this show in my teenage angst and I ship any two male characters together”. A lot of the reason this show got popular is because people ship Michael & Jeremey.

A more accurate statement would be teen flock to fandoms where they can write fan fiction and draw art for a couple, usually a gay one. (Evan Hansen, BMC, Hamilton) whereas other good musicals that don’t have romance or “shippable” characters/actors don’t have much teen following. Or to a show where they can relate to the teenage angst (Mean Girls, Heathers, Evan Hansen).

Very rarely, do people admit to being into something/someone for their looks anymore. I'm not even saying it's a bad thing. I was a teenager once too, I get it. I'm just saying it's a thing.

I wonder if "Smokey Joe's" is doing well or if Be More Chill could go into that off-Broadway theater in the winter?

Brace ourselves for what?   They found out about a RUMOR.  Do you think they hadn't hoped or thought of the possibility before someone put in print?

While a transfer certainly wouldn’t surprise me, there’s a real lack of interest in the industry. No one is treating it as a must-see or an event. Because... it’s not. And I suspect a Broadway run will only serve to expose the limits of the the show and its reach.

While I didn't love the show and cant really see it on Broadway...why are people so set that it will not transfer and if it did it would do horribly. There has been some shows in recent years that didn't have anything close to a stable fan base and still ended up doing well. This show has a stable fan base and although they may not be the ideal theatre goers, why is it so bad or unbelievable to have a show that has the potential to do well come to Broadway?

Because most don't think it WILL do well.  It's one thing to sell out an off b'way, 200 seat theater in a limited run, but can it even come close in a 1,000 seat house with a ticket  costing 2x as much to?

Might it move?  Sure.  MIght is succeed?  Sure.   Few thought Rock of Ages would succeed or Next to Normal.  But truth be told few do, like Title of Show, Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson,  And things with a big following that never even made the jump: Bare springs to mind.

And as Kad said, it's not being taken seriously by the biz.  It's audience is far too narrow.

The audience is pretty narrow, but I honestly do believe that this show has the potential. There's already plenty of buzz around the name, and more will surely be generated if it does make the transfer. And the ticket prices the theater set are comparable, if not more expensive than Broadway prices currently. TPTGW starts at $30 for the balcony seats, which I think is something that should be feasible for BMC to pull off since now they have like 4 times the seats to bring in revenue from.

If the producers were smart, they would move it to an off broadway house and do an open run and run for years. If they moved it to broadway it would close in months, its a hard show to sell.

But they probally will move to broadway and be a major flop cause everything HAS to go to broadway these days.
