Why would it be awkward to call out someone who is contracted to do a job and they failed to deliver?  Like, I mean, Like Oh My God, Like, I mean, wow, Like OMG that is wonderful, like, OMG.  Boring, illiterate and obnoxious and is clearly, look at the broadcast tape, ill-equipped to do this type of spot for a live television production.

NPH is absolutely guilty of a passive aggressive moment, or a less-than-direct slap, if you will, but he summation was correct, and he lied when he said he "was confused."  He wasn't confused, he didn't have the guts to tell her in a direct manner, please come to a broadcast with a dictionary, or reference book that has, at the ready, suggested declarative and demonstrative statements that may be used or interjected in a spontaneous conversation or editorial moment, and please, forever now release the use of the following words or phrases:  Like: Oh My God: OMG: I mean; wow; awesome; dope; but like; really like; for real; fabulous; amazing; superstar, and so on, unless, you possess the ability to utilize the over-used vessels of communication as a well-placed and time comical device, or as a statement to summarize an ironic moment or scene.  For this young person, I would hesitate to believe that she possesses this talent or ability, but like OMG, we'll have to see.

I didn't find her to be the least bit funny, either.

While I know I've heard the name, I would have never recognized her or been able to tell you what she was "known" for.   I started watching the Tonys on a 15 minute delay and after her second backstage interaction, I  just FF past her.   Didn't find her interesting, funny or that she, frankly, made any sense.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Wasn't thrilled with Bloom's backstage reporting during the telecast, but she's a class act and a wonderful talent. NPH comes off pompous and rude, and the address for birthday presents is unusual to say the least.

A multi-millionaire asking his fans, I would assume most of which have 1/100th of the money he has at best, to send him birthday gifts is the definition of short sighted, tone deaf, and misguided.

NPH asking his followers to send him "expensive" gifts is t-a-c-k-y from a man who has the money to BUY ANYTHING HE WANTS without feeling it in his wallet.

My whole watch party assumed he had been hacked due to his comments but especially because of the birthday gifts. But since no announcement was made, I assume that was actually NPH.... very bizarre

Someone should stake out the UPS store to see who shows up to collect the presents.

I don't think anybody on this forum or with any form of objectivity towards Rachel Bloom no matter how big of a fan they are of her would think she did a good job with the backstage gig. It was just rushed and awkward and seemed random since it was not continuous all night, as far as I remember. That said, people can see NPH was a total jerk with that exchange. Even if you enjoyed his "snark" or "mean tweeting" or whatever they call it these days, the context of the situation makes him come off really badly, and Bloom's response was utterly perfect. The birthday present request is just icing on this strange cake.

Every time, after nearly fifteen years on this board, I feel like I can't possibly be shocked by the vitriol and ugliness on this board, a comment like this one comes along.

I don’t get why it matters if she was funny or if you didn’t recognize her. NPH could’ve thought that privately, but he decided to be a jerk by publishing these thoughts online, then when he was called out for it, he didn’t apologize.

I'll admit I wasn't that interested in her segments either, and I am a fan.

But @behindthescenes, she is also the head writer of a very clever TV show, and before she became a TV personality she made her career in comedy writing. She is far from illiterate, and far from unintelligent.

I'm just glad you were able to understand it. It was just one disorganized extraneous run-on sentence to me.

Listen, was her backstage stuff not as effective as last year? No. This show was just so busy. But shouldn't the fact that she was on last year have been somehow stuck in the mind of someone who supposedly loves the Tonys as much as NPH does? I mean he's busy adapting British TV shows and slapping his name across his name as vanity projects, but surely he could remember last year's awards.

Her response in the article about how she was surprised he didn’t research who she was before tweeting and how you should treat people as people first and celebs second was interesting. I mean I admit I’ve tweeted things about celeb hosts of various shows or backstage gigs that were less than kind but I guess I don’t have have as many followers so it doesn’t matter as much, but I do try and shy away from doing it as often now. Because it is kind of rude to tweet less than kind things about people and in this age you never really know what will go viral now.

im glad he apologized sincerely and hopefully he thinks before he tweets next time.

Her name was never on the screen. I didn't even realize it was her until the show was nearly over, and I watch Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
