I have more than a sneaking suspicion that Terry McAuliffe will run. He's starting to put distance between himself and the Clintons. If he should seal the party nomination, the challenge for him will be to pick a running mate who brings something to the table and who doesn't piss off the Bernie wing of the party. McAullife is about as establishment as they come but I'd hold my nose and vote for him in a general election.

That aside, spotlight on Minnesota which is positioning itself to be the key party player in 2024. The Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party is onto something. The state's attorney general Lori Swanson has announced her candidacy for governor and named retiring US Rep Rick Nolan as her running mate. All this bodes well for the Dems in 2024 if civil war doesn't break out before then. By that time, Gavin Newsom will be primed to run for potus and a hopefully a record number of women on the Dem side will have gubernatorial experience. IMHO the party desperately needs to step out of Bill Clinton's shadow.

After yesterday's election results and Justice Kennedy's announcement earlier today, Terry McAuliffe and Eric Holder now make up my Dream Team. Many indies like me abhor Trump and the doublespeak of his privy council. But, we have even less love for Venezuelan-style socialism. Of course the real effects of Trump's fiscal handiwork will be known long after he's out of office.

I don't give a flying F who is on the ballot in 2020. It could be a piece of gorilla sh*t and I'd vote for it.

Everyone should take this approach in both 2018 and 2020, but the purity-testing left will find a way to discredit anyone they slightly disagree with, so we'll be stuck with at least one generation lost to Trump's Supreme Court.

Very little unnerves me at this point in life but Justice Kennedy's retirement and the median age of Ginsburg & Breyer scares the sh*t out of me.
