Confused why they’re saying BAND’S VISIT should win Best Direction. Was it really better than ONCE ON THIS ISLAND or SPONGEBOB

Not to be rude, but what did Riggs do to make her possibly win?

Cromer's direction isn't flashy, but I think it's a triumph. He'd be more than worthy of a win.

Brantley is on another planet. Michael Cera over Nathan Lane? Honestly, over any of the other nominees?! I did chuckle over the [radio silence] for who should have been nominated for Best Book of a Musical.

I agree with HeyMrMusic about Cromer. I just saw The Band's Visit and it should win everything. I just adored it. (Well, Tony Shalhoub wasn't there last night so I guess I don't include him.) It should definitely win best direction, along with best book.

Nathan Lane is going to win his third Tony award this year and that's a fact. None of the other nominees can top his performance.

Also, Jesse Greene thought Springsteen should've been nominated for Best Musical? Is he okay?

Anyone else dislike them including off-Broadway shows in the "should've been nominated" category? I'm all for spreading the love for off-Broadway but they aren't even eligible to win Tonys so why should they be nominated?

I don't have a problem with them including Off Broadway, mostly because Yerma was one of the best productions of the season and I really wish it/Piper were eligible

They both agree that Fey is winning book tho. Also, Slater. Interesting.

I lost so much respect for them after reading that article. Seriously? Their predictions make me laugh out loud.

I also don't get how Itamar Moses isn't a favorite for Best Book. Do people really think the Mean Girls book is superior to The Band's Visit's?

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

Brantley is historically not very good at predicting the Tonys. Even last year, when most of the major categories had obvious frontrunners who all then won.

It's not necessarily about it being superior- it's about Tina Fey.

I'm dubious that she'd actually win, but I can see voters wanting to give it to her.

I'm going to ignore all the nonsense from Brantley about Carousel. WTF BEN.

But the Fey stuff - I get their saying that Fey will win book, but the SHOULD win stuff too?? Just because something is funny doesn't mean it's the best. The fact that it's an overstuffed bloated show should reflect on the book too.
