I saw the show in Denver and thought it was wonderful. To be fair, Caissie Levy could sing the dictionary and I'd pay to hear it. I thought the lack of castle was odd, but the quick change is really cool. I thought the sauna number was actually pretty funny and it was a good way to come back from intermission. So many kids attend this show that people were trickling in late because of bathroom lines, which wasn't a big deal during that number. I'd have been super irritated if it was further along and people were still walking in front of me. The part that bothered me the most was when the parents died. I hope they changed that scene because it was pretty awkward, especially for anyone living under a rock who missed the movie. It sounds like the narrator was cut, that was the other part I didn't love... but even with those few criticisms I absolutely loved the show. I saw it a few times in Denver and am going to see it in NYC when I'm there in May.
I won't see Frozen if no ice castle in Let It Go. It's the crescendo of the song and everyone (no exaggeration intended) knows. I'm also concerned about the two act plot structure. Based on what I read, Act One should end with Elsa kicking Anna out of the ice palace.

They kinda do. It's mainly the interior and the staircase, but other than that, it's an empty stage as well. At the very least, the broadway production's ice castle isn't just projections.

True, but least SOMETHING is happening overall. I wouldn't call projections the most ideal idea for this, but I'll take that because at least SOMETHING is happening, over a stupid blue curtain that just sits there and nothing actually happens while Caissie waves and walks aimlessly. Now....are there more sets for this or aren't there?? Seems even with someone directly involved saying there is, we still can't get a straight answer...we'll find out soon enough anyway.
Let It Go is not about building an ice castle, it's about Elsa realizing that what she was told to hide about herself is what makes her special. It's about her realizing that she is ok just the way she is and that she doesn't have to be afraid of being outed anymore. She happens to realize all of that in the movie while building an ice castle, but there is no rule that she has to find herself while building an ice castle. Making it all about the castle is missing the entire point of the song and the entire climactic moment for that character if you ask me. Is the ice castle rad in the movie, yes obviously it is. Would an ice castle be fun and flashy? Yes totally. But does an ice castle really add anything to the actual story? Not really. It's about flash and fun, which does matter at that price point I agree. The quick change is super cool and flashy, and in Denver was sort of the climatic moment of that song rather than the ice castle. If they could add some flash it wouldn't hurt, but if they don't the story doesn't suffer at all because it's not about the castle. To totally just say you won't go if there's no ice castle seems really weird to me.

Did they change the two act structure? In Denver act 1 ended with Let It Go... I mean it has to. There was no other way they were going to end act 1. I thought it worked pretty well in Denver, plus the way she kicks Anna out would leave act 1 feeling way flatter than ending it with Let It Go. Although now I'm wondering how they will transition out of that scene where she does kick her out because it ended with a narrator moment. Should be better now if they cut the entire narrator.

It's "FROZEN" it will run. But I've never counted the MINUTES till a show was over. I wanted to think of an excuse to leave but I paid for my out of town ticket. Everyone is horrifically vanilla. It will run ten years. And broadway will die a slow slow tragic and painful death everyday of those years.
LOL at anyone saying the show will fail without an ice castle. How about we wait and read some actual reviews once previews start?

Like, really. Can they do better? Yes. But, at least it won't be anywhere like the box as the chocolate room i CACF
There is a LOT tied into **why** the character is building her ice palace during "Let It Go" that's not being discussed. For me, this is why her ice palace must be grand and appear as Elsa's delivering the song. She could've built her ice palace in a boring book scene but the intent behind it changes when she's building it while exclaiming her newfound "freedom." She's singing about how it's her time to do what's best for her and not what other people think is best for her. At the same time, she's building an isolating ice palace that will keep her safe and protected from everyone else - and everyone else protected from her. She's creating this beautiful, magnificent place to be her physical sanctuary and/or tomb. I don't think we can underestimate the reason she builds the castle during "Let It Go" and a simple quick change isn't going to relate any of this. We need to see the castle built while she's singing this song. Otherwise it's just a park 'n bark and ultimately renders the song incredibly less effective. This is Disney so there is absolutely no reason why we can't get a visual wow with the palace as well. Add me to the camp of no ice palace, no ticket purchase.

True, but I'm sure FROZEN has a much bigger advance than THE LITTLE MERMAID did.

I like that costume...EXCEPT the pants...a really cool looking skirt and still show those bomb ass boots, would be better, I just don't think the aesthetic of pants works for her...
greensgreens- ALL of what you said. It's not just just about having a glorious set being built, it's about what it represents. That's the point. Yes it's about her finding her freedom and deciding "**** everything" but the culmination of that decision IS THE INCREDIBLE CREATION WE MUST BE ABLE TO SEE (Yes I meant all caps). The whole point of the scene is to finally see what she's really able to do with these powers she's been unhealthily suppressing for over a decade. We don't see that? The scene falls flat if not outright dies.
