What has this announcement got to do with a possible closing?
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I don't see how Michaelson puts them into a deeper hole. Is she as big a star as Groban? No, but she's not a nobody and certainly is a bigger name than Britain Ashford. We'll see who they have lined up for Pierre in the fall, but I don't think this was a bad decision.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
I didn't know who this was. Seeing it for the second time with my gf July 5 and I broke the news that Brittain would be out and she was really bummed. But she freaked the **** out when I told her who was replacing her. So I'm excited to see her in this role
If you haven't followed her career, Ingrid walks the line between singer songwriter (more the first album) and indie pop. I haven't loved her more recent albums as much as the early stuff because I don't think her voice suits the processed pop as well and the songs are less interesting. But she's had her fair share of radio hits and especially songs getting into commercials and that sort of thing. Still, I think if you recognize her (because despite her continued success she's not really on award shows or talk shows that much) it's probably from what (I think) is her first mainstream hit.
Ingrid is a great choice. Also, the music industry has changed a lot. While we may think Ingrid is not "mainstream" or "marketable" she is an internet sensation. She may not be played on the radio all the time but she's a social media superstar. This is a shift. I think she will bump attendance for a few weeks. Her fans are hardcore. Look at Toddrick and Urie-they helped Kinky Boots.

This makes me so excited. I haven't seen the show yet, but I definitely will be seeing it now.
For what it's worth of star power, I went to 1 of her shows at the Beacon Theatre in November. The 1st sold out, so they added a 2nd. And her holiday show sells too. She may not be able to have each of her shows be a sell out, but people are interested in her.

Ticket sales must suck if they are bumping a cast member (who I'm assuming is being paid).
A shame.

They're not bumping a cast member, Ingrid Michaelson is filling in while Brittain Ashford is away from Great Comet, which had been announced awhile ago.
This is great. She is one of my favorite singer songwriters. I saw her tonight with Will at Come From Away. She is incredibly petite, and without her signature glasses, I didn't recognize her right away. Also, Hillary, Bill and Chelsea Clinton were in the house tonight! Huge around of applause!
Was there this evening. She was extremely grounded and looked very relaxed in the role. Her singing was the slightest bit weak... She is a great singer don't get me wrong but I know if a few performances she will have it down pat. Her Sonya Alone was chilling and deeply moving. By the end I had goosebumps. What a great debut to a talented musician!
Just heard a lowfi audio recording of her "Sonya Alone" and just. Wow. Was not expecting it to be that good, and I'm a fan of her. I definitely need to go back and see her live.
she sounds wonderful. I had bought a ticket for August 13 a while back, before she was announced, and now I'm looking forward to what should be a special day as her final performance.
I saw her and thought she was wonderful. She reminded me of Pippa Soo when she played Natasha in some of her mannerisms. She sung beautifully, and looked confident, like she had been doing this for quite some time. Loved it. Will Chase was there, along with his kids. Great casting!!
I hate to be that guy, and obviously she's only been in the show for a few days, but has she been doing the stage door after the show? Personally, I highly doubt it, but my sister is a bit Ingrid-obsessed and we're seeing the show tomorrow (Can you believe we got our tickets before she was announced? Really great coincidence). Any idea if she'll come out? Thanks!
EDIT: I just thought to search Twitter after posting this, and it looks like she does come out after the show.
I saw Ingrid tonight. She is a very different Sonya than Brittain Ashford's (who I have also seen), but that was inevitable since Brittain's voice is so unique. I thought she was amazing -- it was only her third show but I thought she really made the role her own. She was a more sprightly/jovial Sonya -- like I want to say her character was a Sonya/Natasha hybrid -- and she REALLY knows how to belt certain notes that filled up the entire theater in a way that only Josh Groban could when I saw him (however, it was also my first time seeing Dave Malloy as Pierre and his portrayal/vocals made me understand the character so much better).
The only exception I thought, ironically, was "Sonya Alone," which she seemed to tone down presumably because of the subtle nature of the song. She gave the piece justice for sure, but Brittain's version makes me think the song was written specifically for her. My buddy still said Ingrid's performance brought him to tears though!
I am curious to see how the Great Comet takes advantage of said pop star "stunt casting" in the future. Small but juicy roles, so one can only dream... Lena Hall as Helene? Peaches as Marya D? Ariana Grande as Natasha?? I can only picture Lucas Steele as Anatole though lol
