it is all relative to the subject in question. if she lived in a third world country, she would clearly have different problems.  this is such a ridiculous argument not based in any sense of reality or logic. what a futile way of thinking... just my two cents

There is a 100% chance she will attend the Oscars and a 100% chance she will perform on Broadway the next evening. That's really all that needs to be said.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Logistically, it's actually fairly straightforward for her to do both.  The Oscars should be over by 9 or 9:30 at the latest.  Four different airlines have nonstop flights leaving LAX at 11:30pm or later.  They arrive in New York by 8am.

"What was the name of that cheese that I like?" "you can't run away forever...but there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start" "well I hope and I pray, that maybe someday, you'll walk in the room with my heart"

Yes, this happens all the time. People have hosted SNL and the next day they're on the red carpet in LA. She'll definitely be able to attend the Oscars

I had Rylance tickets for the afternoon of the awards and we were offered exchange seats in the extension before it was announced.

I still bet they will postpone the first preview. Remember 5 or 6 years ago the same thing happened with Stanley Tucci and "Lend Me a Tenor" and they didn't announce the postponement until a few days before, even though nominations had been out for weeks. Granted he was the director so it's a little different, but surely she's needed for rehearsals the day before and day of the first preview. Plus, Equity rules dictate the production can't force you to travel the day of a performance (although since she's voluntarily attending the Oscars, not sure this would apply--but still, I can't imagine there isn't something in her contract about this)

I'm pretty sure that they would just put her on a private jet. Methinks that Saoirse and Scott Rudin aren't worrying about commercial flight schedules.

The show ends at around 8pm on the west coast, so not sure why it would be an issue to be 6 hours away 23 hours later.

Just got off the phone with the Walter Kerr because Ticketmaster is listing the first preview as sold out and I had planned on seeing it. The first preview has indeed been postponed to March 1st. A real shame as I had planned on seeing this on Monday and already got tickets to HAMILTON for the 1st many months ago. I can't believe I'm missing this. I was incredibly excited to see it.

Yep---- not to really get off the topic, but loved "Brookyn" to death, (and Ronan) but Larson has this locked up after taking the Golden Globe and Sag -

I feel like there's a musical number here.

Her contract states she must attend,

It's ironclad, it will not bend.

It is clear the show can sue.

I have tickets to the first preview night and have not received any notification from the Walter Kerr, Ticketmaster, or any Broadway news alerts. Nor have I seen any social media posts about it. Surely they'd have let ticket holders know?

SLSigafoos, if you check Ticketmaster the performance is listed as 'cancelled,' I'm sure you'll be notified soon. The lady I spoke to on the phone said it had just been postponed yesterday.

Thanks. On my tablet it doesn't show as canceled; it's just simply missing now. Disappointing they didn't notify ticket holders immediately. I was really looking forward to it.

I was wondering when they'd cancel that first performance. For me it was always a question of when, not if.

Ok I admit I was wrong, but still I'm surprised they didn't do this much earlier. Why couldn't they cancel the first preview as soon as she was nominated?

I am also very surprised that they waited this long to cancel the preview. I mean, at the latest, it was clear Ronan would get nominated in mid-December. Even if they did want to wait until she got in officially, they kept selling tickets for weeks. I wonder if she wanted to power through and then realized how grueling the whole thing would be since she has already been flying back and forth for all the pre-Oscar events while in rehearsals. I never thought I'd be disappointed to have HAMILTON tickets instead of this, but I feel like I'd be able to see HAMILTON at another point, whereas I'm sure this will be a very special production. Oh well.

They didn't know about the schedule conflict until the producers read my thread. What will Saoirse Ronan do?

Yeah, I was one of those who thought they would have done this a while ago if they were going to do it at all.

I don't know about anyone else who had tickets, but I'm not in the city and had to schedule time off from my job to attend. I'm lucky I can attend later in the run, but that won't be the case for everyone in that theatre who had tickets for the 29th. Also, Ticketmaster STILL hasn't sent a cancellation notice to ticket holders. When I called them, the first rep I spoke to had no idea. On their online chat help, the rep took ten minutes to research and confirm the cancellation but didn't have me down for a refund. The ticket agency issues is what I'm most annoyed with.

Totally understandable^

And while I understand the disappointment from folks that this was the only opportunity to see The Crucible, remember, its not all that uncommon for first previews to get cancelled...tech goes poorly, illness, weather issues (especially winter starts)
