No surprise that the majority of ATC is tearing this clip apart. Always interesting when the two boards have vastly different opinions on something.

I've watched the "The Night they Invented Champagne" performance 6 times. It's just so damn delightful.

I have been decidedly skeptical about this production (the casting, the artwork, the material) but that clip has absolutely changed my mind.

Vanessa and Victoria are well cast here but I'm shockingly on the fence on Corey as Gaston. I guess I've been used to Louis Jordan's lower voice than Cory's higher range. The real highlight was Joshua Bergasse's choreography, which is a sheer delight to watch; and it's quite different than his work on ON THE TOWN.

This wasn't even on my list, but after seeing that joyous performance, I am sold as well.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Someone explain why they have a bunch of waiters and Can-Can dancers in Gigi's grandmother's living room. It's hard to tell on a "suggestive" set on a morning talk show, but what exactly does that big dance have to do with this number (if anything)?

The number is a few minutes longer in the production, but there is a limit on how long a musical number can run on the morning shows (no more than 3 1/2 minutes for a show like Good Morning America. Shorter for some other shows). It begins in the apartment. There is more material as they dance in the house, but there is a set transition as they leave the apartment and head out to the street. Obviously, that couldn't be included here.

I haven't seen the show but from what I could guess is that Gigi, Mamita and Gaston sing the first part of the song and they head out of the apartment and enjoy themselves in the city of Paris at night (hence the waiters and can-can dancers) that starts the other part.

Edit: Dang it Smaxie, you beat me to it! :P Updated On: 3/11/15 at 09:48 PM

But it would've been funny best12bars, IF the whole number was set at the apartment where all these strangers just showed up and tried to do a dance number in that cramped place ala NIGHT OF THE OPERA.

Or all of the tap dancers who suddenly appear in Sue's house for "I Want To Be Happy" in No No Nanette.

It wasn't a mess but it also didn't blow me away. It was really hard to judge it with the set being what it was. I wouldn't blame the actors for not being connected to each other and for not really knowing which direction to play to. Corey and Vanessa both read very young which made it feel a little like a high school production. But again, that's just based on this one appearance. The actual show could be fantastic.

Add me to the pleasantly surprised group. I've always liked the back story and history of Gigi, but the reviews from D.C. didn't make me think this was a can't miss. If anything, I found the performance to be energetic and cute--cute in a good way, not sarcastically. It's sticking in my head right now.

I love the work Heidi Thomas has done for TV, so I'm excited to see what she's done here with the book.

Not trying to be contrary, but that looked like typical summer stock choreography to me. It was all very sweet and average. The whole presentation. It's, of course, hard to tell anything from those TV appearances. I get that. But, I didn't really have a feeling about this piece one way or the other beforehand. And I still don't. I wish I could jump on board, as many of you have, but I'm just not seeing it.
Of course, I wish them well.

It was cute...had a Disney quality to it but I found the choreography so typical and uninspiring...we seen it all done before.
Vanessa had some sparks of charm but still have no plans or want to see it.

Gigi's giggling did put me off a bit.

It's actually a plot point---the reason Gaston likes her and that Gigi stands out is that she doesn't giggle like a schoolgirl and fawn on him incessantly the way other girls and ladies do. She always calls him on his bullsh*t and doesn't give him a free pass with anything. She isn't impressed by his money or social position. She just likes him for himself.

I think Vanessa is very capable and makes a winning Gigi, but the director (and she) needs to pay closer attention to the character. Gigi is adorable because she's different, not because her reactions and behavior are conventional.

And I think both Gaston and Mamita look too young in this. Victoria seems great, but Gaston seems swallowed up by either this number or his two costars.

To those commenting on the choreography: This is certainly not the most impressive choreography in the show. I found the choreography for some of the other songs was spectacular and very inventive. There's significant variation between the different dance numbers, from what I remember. (I hope I'm not coming off as if I'm discounting your opinions. If you didn't love the dance, then you're entitled to that interpretation as well.)

This GMA clip was fantastic. I was not interested in seeing GiGi but now I want to. Josh and the director did a fantastic job for staging for TV. It will play great on the Tony Awards if they get a nomination. I also thought the scenic elements for morning TV were really well conceived. It was one of the best morning show segments featuring a Broadway cast I have seen in years.
