Hi Patash-- were your tix originally purchased at the box office? I have tix for Sat., but got them thru Telecharge a while back. Was wondering which entity I should approach for a refund. If the box office could do it, I'd just assume go there. Thanks!

Telecharge doesn't say Parsons is out for the rest of the run, so not sure they will give refunds in advance. May have to show up day of performance for that?

Telecharge just sent out an email regarding the closing notice. You should contact them directly regarding an exchange or refund

His ticket is for Saturday, though, so he doesn't qualify for an exchange or refund based on the closing, as there is still a performance on Saturday. Not sure Telecharge knows that Parsons is out for the rest of the run... if so, they'd be able to do it in advance.

Clyde Barrow, amazing how you would revel in something like this.

I just contacted the box office and Estelle Parsons is in the show this evening. They said she had the flu. I am hoping she will be back in through the rest of the week as I intend to see her one more time. I thought she was wonderful in a play that had important things to say about the aging process.

Semi-serious question. Could Ms. Parsons now hold the record for fewest performances for a Tony nominated role?

Mr roxy

When I pay$135 for a ticket I expect the actors to know their lines. I don't care if it is Estelle Parsons or F*ing methuselah.

When you get to the point you can't remember lines, leave live theatre. And i am a HUGE Parson's fan.

Does anyone have a theory on why this ever came into NY in the first place? Did it get out of town raves or something?

Fun fact: Mr Roxy once babysat Methuselah.

If you can't remember lines, you are usually fired. Unless you are famous or the only reason people are coming to see the show....

Apparently, a lot of people loved it when it was in DC. It got good reviews there, and friends of mine loved it. I don't know what happened.

Lots of things that are hits out of town don't quite work when they come in. Surely you know that by now.

Sorry, it just makes me wonder what producers are thinking.

Does anyone remember that play, Visiting Mr. Green, from a bunch of years ago? It played off Broadway downtown (Union Square?). Two character thing with one of them being an old man. I don't know if it was ever a huge hit in NY but the producers cleaned up in the regionals, where it was done everywhere. I'm guessing that everyone wanted a 2 actor play and they all had an octogenarian in their company who needed a role.

Might that work the same for Velocity? But it's weird that the producers did not even run it long enough to collect their full 40% of sub rights income. Maybe they are out of money. I feel bad for them but this one never screamed Broadway transfer to me.

Yes, it I saw it in Atlanta last January. It was fantastic. I think it was successful when it came to New York in the 90's.

Theater Geek

It was reported during the run of Deuce, Lansbury was being fed her lines. By your reasoning she should have retired than.

Paying $ 135 for a straight play is lunacy. This show was heavily papered from day 1. It should have opened off Broadway and never opened on Broadway and this is coming from someone who enjoyed it.

"Semi-serious question. Could Ms. Parsons now hold the record for fewest performances for a Tony nominated role?"

Dilys Waling, Melissa Hart for Georgy (4 performances).

Marian Seldes (Father's Day), Geraldine Brooks (Brightower). Both plays ran one performance.

Dolores Gray won the Tony for Carnival in Flanders (6 performances).

To answer a question above, I did originally buy my ticket AT the box office with a discount coupon. I'd also be surprised if Telecharge isn't aware that Ms. Parsons in out of the show.

I'd be interested in a specific reason she left the show when she received the Tony nomination. Something tells me there is some real "dirt" here.

How were plays that ran 1 performance eligible for the awards? Did the rules change recently? 2 years ago, I remember being pissed that Ari Graynor wouldn't be eligible for THE PERFORMERS since the show closed after 6 regular performances.

Thanks, Patash. Interestingly, a poster above said he contacted the box office and was told that Ms. Parsons would be on. I'd be interested to hear if anyone can confirm this.
