"I do like the optimism that they will make a screen version so amazing that it will make people stop caring to see it live, but that is such an odds-defying assumption, it is almost comical."
I didn't get that at all from the interview...however, I do find that sometimes people tend to think that if they've seen the movie adaptation they don't need to see the musical.
"That's why I haven't been in a hurry, because it works so well on stage and audiences are enjoying it."
I read that as either they are waiting (or at least not pushing to go too quickly) because the movie will drive interest to the show, which they don't need at present, or they don't want the movie to pull audiences away from the show, since it is working so well around the world and getting audiences.
But I just think it is so hard to get a movie musical right, they should almost just consider it a separate thing, and when the script, director, and cast line up, not worry about the live show, and just try and create an amazing movie.
It is really hard to get a movie musical right, agreed. So many failed adaptions and only a handful of really good ones. But I have to say, I can't picture a Wicked film being considered better or more popular than the Broadway show.
Adaptations should never try to be 'better' than their source material because movies and plays are two very different mediums, like apples and oranges. The most that a film adaptation should strive for is staying true to the source material as well as standing on its own.
Translating Marc Platt's statement: "Frozen stole our thunder by spitting in Stephen Schwartz's face for going to DreamWorks when Disney needed him. We're waiting till that craze dies down so Wicked won't seem like a rip-off."
Evan Rachel Wood would have made a good Glinda or Elphaba if they can nab her soon she still looks like a young adult I am assuming Elphaba is around 21 and Nessa around 18, but if the movies a bit further away then I guess she will be too old.
But if they cast Evan Rachel Wood, she would just bitch on social media that she sung defying gravity live and isn't getting enough credit. Let's cast an actress who isn't annoying as hell.
There's no way a wicked film is happening in 2016. Hell there have been Wicked rumors for years and years. I remember when it was supposed to be a 2012 release with Anne Hatheway and Mandy Moore as the 2 leads. lol nope.
