Ha, yes it could do well on the "Menopause" circuit.
Also the title is terrible. It reminds me of that show that played at New World Stages forever called "My First Time." It was a vagina monologue type show, except it was about people losing their virginity.
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!
Yeah, it just sounds bland. Me thinks it's going to go the way of "Story of My Life." But maybe it is a smart move. It'll get a recording, it'll have a "from Broadway" tag. And it will live on in the Dinner Theater circuit for years and years. It can't be that costly too produce.
I'll be honest, saw it in Seattle and really didn't like it. I usually like most of what i see but this was boring and all the jokes were used so much that they were no longer funny. I got comps to see it and i didn't even think it was worth that.
I saw it in Seattle, as well. It was a quaint little musical and the staging was surprisingly inventive. I could see it having a good off-Broadway life, but I'm baffled that commercial Broadway producers would back this. I liked it more than I thought I'd like a musical called "First Date", though honestly don't remember much more than not hating it.
I didn't see it in Seattle, but I'm assuming the producers decided to make the jump to Broadway for the same reason as most shows: it got some great reviews, audiences presumably responded really well, and the producers thought it had enough scale to play to a bigger NY house and make money. Pretty basic math. Whether they're right or not, who knows? But with all the musicals based on movies inundating the theatre landscape, I have to admire some producers willing to take a risk on an original by unknowns.
Touche to the last posting. I am equally very tired of these constant "movie" musicals. So on that point, I commend those producers for bringing this in. Help me theater fans... what was the last show at the Longacre that had any sort of a lengthy run? I'm racking my brain and can't think of a single show that ran any length of time while I lived back east in the 80s and 90s.
