I have a hard time believing this thing was staged. What established performer would agree to be "rejected" on national television to bolster said show's image and show that it's winner is truly talented-- especially when the rejection could put you in a rather unflattering light and perhaps damage your career? I don't think any performer would want to take that kind of risk, especially since performers rely on their reputations as seeming to be in demand.

"i guarantee they paid her over 10,000 euro"

Why would they pay her Euro?

She was invited onto the show and her record label (ultimately Universal, who are affiliated with the show) must have agreed to it.

I imagine that being invited on made her confident that she would get through.

I highly doubt it was fixed, if it got out that the BBC were involved with anything like that all hell would break loose. You can't actually believe that someone would go on a show in the knowledge they'd be publicly rejected.
I watched it when it aired on Saturday and thought it was odd but you know, good for her, if she wanted to do it. Tony Vincent has done it in the States, not that he needed to either and he actually got through.
I think she's great and immensely talented but I don't think Kerry's choice of song was the best to be honest, she could have done a much better audition than that. When they asked her her name and she said "Kerry.. Ellis" it was almost as if she was expecting them to recognise her. That was little uncomfortable to watch. It was actually the coaches that looked daft afterwards because when they asked her what she'd been in the audience all knew. I doubt this will effect her career in the long run though. Nobody is going to scoff at her headlining a show or leading a musical because she was rejected from The Voice.

She's a great singer with a not particularly unique sound. If the goal of the show is to find a new and exciting 'voice' than Kerry, good as she is, really isn't that.

Now she can add " TV Credits: The Voice." That looked staged to me. I don't for a minute believe the judges do not have a list of who to turn for, etc.

Why would it be staged? Who would benefit? Kerry? No. The show? Why would they care?

In the nicest way possible, anyone who thinks Kerry did this intentionally and that this was fixed is being very foolish. Come on...really?

Kerry... why would you do this to yourself? After performing in the West End for 10+ Years, forming connections with Brian May, recording your own album, appearing on the BBC countless times, performed for THE QUEEN at the Royal Variety you choose The Voice? Bad move and her agent should be shot because they just made her look very desperate.

She's done & deserves more than that.

Outside of theatre chat boards, Kerry Ellis is not known in the UK. Yes she might have sung with Brian May and Queen once at a concert on tv, but it not the type of thing that makes her well known. She obviously wanted the exposure a reality singing show could bring - How many more people know the names of Leona Lewis, One Direction, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood etc etc.

I really respect Kerry for doing this.
It's all about taking chances.

Yes, she played big roles in West End productions, but the majority of the country has never heard of her.
There is a big difference between the "Musical theatre world" and the "Pop culture world".

Also, this business is all about exposure. When a musical performer makes a cd, it sells a couple of hundred pieces and is available in the theatreshop and in dress circle. When a popstar makes a cd it's in all the stores in the country and your clip is on mtv every day. There is a difference.
She was aiming for a bigger audience.

She took a chance. It didn't work. Life is a journey. Every performer has lots of moments like this in his/her career, only not all of them are seen on national tv.

Matt 2 really? I do not think Idol or the voice have any kind of voice they are looking for. Kerry is not famous everywhere in the UK, she is good but sadly no votes. She is known with theatre geeks I think she choose the show to start a solo career.

I don't get why she did this. As everyone's already said, she's a huge theater star and most people (including me) would die to get the level of success she has.

However, if she is that desperate to get a pop career that she needs to go on a reality show, why did she sing Preacher Man? I've heard much better versions of the song, and I've heard her sing much better, so why choose that? I didn't think it suited her at all.
