Saw it in Phoenix and Hamilton is fine in the part. His "Song On the Sand" isn't one for the ages but he sure has the style for Georges. Chris is, of course, terrific. BUT funny and affectingly heartbreaking. He's such a pro and he shows Hamilton off to his best advantage. Cast is good in general. I saw it in NYC and loved the scaled down, 2nd rate vibe of the club. Clearly it was a couple blocks off the main drag. It created a lot more intimacy than the original did for me. The tour recreates this as much as possible for...well, a tour. Enjoy it, Toronto.

I saw this tour in Toronto a couple of weeks ago. Chris Sieber is brilliant. Why am I not surprised? George's singing was only OK, but he gave it everything he had. The pre-show, in my opinion, added nothing to the evening. Lily even took a script up onstage with her. I would have thought she had the patter learned by now. Only a couple of really funny lines.

I saw it when it came through the Kennedy Center. The production as a whole seems to be missing some glitz and oomph. There is not a lot of razzle dazzle in the set-up. That said, the cast is largely quite good, with Christopher Sieber stealing the show (although I wish his La Cage aux Folles number were as lavish as the one Gary Beach had in the last revival). George Hamilton is OK, but not great. He is the weak link in the cast. He is obviously there for marquee value for the old timers, but the uncommented on Grand Canyon age difference between he and Sieber was a bit too much to overlook. His voice was also fairly weak and we often had problems hearing lyrics when he was singing (his projection while talking was also not the best). I have certainly seen much worse from recognizable actors and he most definitely does not derail the show, but as my viewing companions and I joked at the end...there is a very real reason why Hamilton and Sieber are brought out to take their bows together rather than separately, and it is not so Sieber can bask in the glow of Hamilton's success.

Saw the tour in DC in Jan and again in Costa Mesa this past Summer. Love this production so I'm rather biased. Chris Sieber is wonderful as Albin / Zaza.
