Yes. It was a stunning end of a captivating production.
Count me intrigued. I'm usually think video is used poorly in theatre, but with such an unexpected treatment for West Side, I'm intrigued. What Ivo and his partner do best is storytelling in primal colors and use space to convey character, so extremely intrigued to see how video and rain might do that...
Is there a fluke with Telecharge going on -- or is this show actually selling like CRAZY? I'm looking at tickets for 12/28, 12/29, and 12/30, and there are maybe 10 total seats available among all of those performances... what!?https://www.telecharge.com/Broadway/West-Side-Story/Overview
So, the busiest month of the year for NYC, leading up to New Years Eve.....you don't think it would be busy? Why don't you check some dates for anything past the first week of January. No, it's not selling like crazy and no, there's nothing wrong with Telecharge.
I don't think there's a fluke--it seems like this show is actually selling out!! Exciting for the team, very interesting.

The fact that it's sold about 90% more seats during those dates than MOULIN ROUGE!, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, and TINA is pretty remarkable to me...I see at least seven shows every New Year's week and this is by far the strongest seller I've seen this far out. Also if you've never experienced an issue with Telecharge properly showing seating availability, then...you must be truly entitled to be so rude. Bravo.
As mentioned in the other thread, many seats are being held back. Someone mentioned probably hundreds of them. It hasn't sold more than anyone, especially Moulin Rouge. Trust.
Yes, I heard that as well. Not uncommon for a show in previews for a lot of seats to be held back or held for special guests of the production.
A-ha...makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

While West Side Story is absolutely a well-known property and will most likely sell better than people are expecting (at least until it opens), you have to understand that unless a show is obviously a blockbuster (like Moulin Rouge), the producers are definitely holding seats for later release. It may be selling better in the week between Christmas and NYE simply because of that being the busiest week of the year in the city, but it’s pretty naïve to think this is genuinely selling out in advance. And I’m actually excited for this production, before anyone says I’m being a pessimist about it.
Productions hold a couple dozen seats, not the majority of a house. They need to make money and creating artificial scarcity isn't a way to do that.

"Van Hove has also revealed that he will utilize video to further captivate audiences."The biggest challenge will be to seduce them to follow our way of telling this story," he said."It sounds awful, but I will admit at least it is Something Different. I personally wouldn't be that excited about a 'traditional' revival so soon after the last.

What if you want one of these tickets that was held back? I bought a ticket through Telecharge a couple days ago for 13th December for almost $400, which was the only seat left for the dates I’m in New York. Today I went on there again and there are at least 7-8 new seats for other dates for roughly half the price. Both my ticket and these new tickets are for premium seating. Telecharge has a no refund policy. Can I do anything about it?
