Saw Elaine Paige in concert last night here in Palm Springs. She appeared at The Palm Springs Art Musuem Annenberg Theatre, and officially opened up their 2008/09 season. To say that she was extraordinary, is a complete understatement. She was beyond brilliant. This is the 5th time that I've seen her perform. The first was 1996 in "Sunset Blvd" in NYC, 2002 in Pasadena with the Utah Symphony Orchestra, "Sweeney Todd" in NYC in 2004, and last year in London in "Drowsy."

"The Best Things Come In Small Packages" - a hilarious song about being only 4' 11" - with lyrics like...everything about me is small, except my fee.....this bitch can belt.....hilarious!!!
She sang a song written by her friends Dustin Hoffman and Bette Midler. I can't for the life of me remember the title.
The concert was about 1 hour and 15 minutes and the theatre is very intimate - seating just about 500 people. Standing O's was the call of the night.
She is such an utterly, astonishing actress - such an interpreter of the lyrics that she is singing. Her voice is brilliant - absolutely pitch, crystal clear - and her phrasing, clarity and diction are perfect.......absolutely PERFECT. There are only a handful of performers that you have to see live.....Streisand, Linda Eder, Betty Buckley and Elaine Paige...the cd just can't capture THE VOICE.
For every person out there who is a performer........actor, dancer, singer, etc.........to be able to do what she can do.....completely move an audience, is an amazing feat.

Glad you enjoyed Elaine in concert.
I have to agree with everything you wrote. She's an amazing artist and one hell of a live performer.
Saw her several times in concerts and in shows and she always gave more than 120% of herself and her soul in every song.
"Cry Me A River" by Paige is probably the best interpretation that I've ever heard and "if You Love Me" (from Piaf) is a class of its own.
