CABARET at the Kit Kat Club Previews  Apr 14 2024, 12:29:36 AM

MemorableUserName said: "I posted a few weeks ago that I had no interest in seeing this based on the Olivier performance, but the SeatGeek discount code, the positive reports about the stage mezzanine seating, and Bebe were enough to tempt me. So there’s my initial bias upfront if anyone wants to dismiss the following, but this review is mostly for anyone else who was skeptical or is open to another opinion.

Am I glad I saw it? Yes. Was it entertaining? For the most

New Musical, DEAD OUTLAW, from Penna/Yazbek/Moses  Apr 14 2024, 12:22:53 AM

just a big snore - literally - I fought to stay awake.

monotonous music - no real plot - nothing really funny -  not even that odd - just a waste of $90

totally agree

as I said before, I have no idea who that woman even was from this production.

Cabaret stunt casting  Apr 12 2024, 12:35:46 AM

Theatrefanboy1 said: "With the 29$ million price tag. Obviously they must have a plan once Eddie leaves in august after only five months. I’m curious who people think they have in line for emcee or sally.
I’m wondering if it’ll be big names like: TImothee Chalamet, Austin Butler, Chris pine, Harry Styles…

and: Emma Watson or Margot Robbie…

any idea of who you think they’ll be casting?

I haven’t seen everything new. And I did like Water For Elephants.

and yes - Stereophonic was dud-ley IMHO. And was it really widely acclaimed? I know at least four people who are scratching their heads.

CABARET at the Kit Kat Club Previews  Apr 11 2024, 11:26:24 PM

Saw this tonight

Thoughts

- Gayle Rankin kind of blew me away once she could stop fighting the overblown direction and choreography. Her understated Maybe This Time and Cabaret totally worked for me and gave me chills. She’s a fine fine actress -  get her away from that stupid staging.

- Eddie Redmayne didn’t leave any impression on me. It was just a lot of handwaving.  But then Allen Cumming and Joel Grey are

ART ISN'T EASY

IMPRESSIONS:

- If you thought Jason Robert Brown can't easily end a number, welcome to Kreitzer and Gould.  Some of these numbers go on and on and never seem to finish.

- And Eden Espinosa bears the brunt of this punishment.  She never seems to stop singing.  Granted she is given breaks during the show, but her incessant pop recitative wears you out.  The melodies seem to run into one another all sounding vaguely the same.&n

Have there ever been so many new musicals in one season?  Apr 8 2024, 04:54:07 PM

On another note…

have there ever been so many turkeys in one season?

STEREOPHONIC Previews  Apr 7 2024, 09:21:17 PM

Another mediocre, tedious outing.  I'm amazed that this transferred to Broadway

What a season of duds!

Michael R. Jackson & Anna K. Jacobs' TEETH Musical at Playwrights Horizons (Winter 2024)  Apr 7 2024, 09:17:33 PM

Saw this today.  Boring, boring, boring.  Same as Dead Outlaw.  What is it with these writers?  Material ripe for satire and camp and humor and they try to make them documentaries and social commentaries.  Geesh.

Christopher Durang Dead at 75  Apr 3 2024, 12:26:48 PM

I’ve never laughed so much as I did at BETTY’S SUMMER VACATION. A singular, brilliant talent. RIP.

I love your reviews, Jordan.  Whether I agree with them or not.  They're just so....thorough...and early!!!

AAAAND.....I can't believe that people on this Board won't acknowledge that everything ANYONE says here ARE THEIR OPINIONS!!!!!    There's no right or wrong.   It's just YOUR OPINION!!!!!!

Little Shop...Who Leads? Anyone know?  Feb 27 2024, 10:16:37 PM

Just saw this last Sunday.  Totally underwhelming

Criss wasn’t schlubby enough

Wood played Audrey straight, no caricature and it’s just a boring portrayal. Nice singing voice, but we need the schtick.

Stephen DeRosa, who I usually love, was rushing through everything.

The three girls had semi-personalities but nobody seemed to be having any fun doing any of this.

Pinkham was just loud and pushy. Not funny<

WATER FOR ELEPHANTS Broadway Previews  Feb 25 2024, 06:21:24 PM

i’m totally shocked. I actually liked this. The second act is a little rocky and it’s all a little predictable and low tech for the circus moments but it’s heartfelt, tuneful and actually kind of sweet. You could do a lot worse - like walking across the street.

Will Jelly Transfer at NY Times review  Feb 23 2024, 10:47:02 PM

I hope this doesn’t transfer. It won’t have a very long life. It was an OK production, but that second act is a disaster and there’s not much star power in the cast, which I think you need for a Broadway transfer. Loved the choreography, though.

Yeah...he's a standout.

THE NOTEBOOK Broadway Previews  Feb 14 2024, 11:30:15 PM

As someone else said, it's just sorta average.

Music is average - songs sound very much alike.

The love story between the older people is the most affecting.

A big problem for me was that I didn't understand why the young-uns were attracted to each other.  Not much chemistry there.

And what about the casting?  Wild!
