Gavin Creel's WALK ON THROUGH at MCC Theater  Nov 23 2023, 12:26:08 PM

sytwix, thank you for the heads-up about tickets being released for this weekend!  I was able to snag one.  The prices for the extension are crazy ($164 is the cheapest non-rush non-cancellation ticket, with the rest being $204!)

2024 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album Nominees predictions  Nov 10 2023, 01:56:11 PM

The rules for principal vocalists change quite a bit pretty often, but the current rule is that there can be no more than four principal vocalists.  They are designated on the entry form as those with "significant contributing performance(s), defined as a lead performance by a featured vocalist."  The winning principal vocalists get a statuette and are considered to be Grammy winners.  If there are no principal vocalists, then it's considered to be an "ensemb

HERE LIES LOVE - Broadway Previews  Jul 14 2023, 04:45:35 PM

steve.sometime and justanothernewyorker, thank you for the info about the lottery!  It's kind of odd that they do it some days and not others, but I guess it's better than not doing it at all!  Hopefully the lack of lottery availability means that the show is selling a bit better.

HERE LIES LOVE - Broadway Previews  Jul 14 2023, 09:37:35 AM

Should the digital lottery be open right now?  I'm at rush.telecharge.com , and I see plenty of shows but I don't see Here Lies Love at all.  Also, when you sign up for the lottery, do you get to choose standing vs not standing, or is it assigned to you?

BETWEEN RIVERSIDE & CRAZY Reviews  Feb 6 2023, 11:25:00 AM

bfreak, thank you for your help!  House left, here we come!

BETWEEN RIVERSIDE & CRAZY Reviews  Feb 5 2023, 08:34:17 AM

For the performance I want to see Between Riverside and Crazy, the only options are the last seat against the wall in the orchestra, which are labeled as "partial view."  Is it better to sit in house left or house right?  I think around 15-20% of the relevant side of the stage is cut off, and I don't know if any significant scenes happen in that area on either side.  Thank you in advance!

AUGUST WILSON'S THE PIANO LESSON Reviews  Jan 10 2023, 11:11:23 AM

ACL2006, do you mean that he is out through the MLK weekend, or just for a performance or two?  This was originally the last week of the run before it got extended, so it would be odd timing for a lengthy planned absence.  I was thinking about going this upcoming weekend.  There are photos on BWW of him at a gala yesterday, and I assume he wouldn't have gone if he had COVID or some other illness.

BCEFA FLEA MARKET 2022 COLLECTORS UNITE!!  Sep 26 2022, 11:27:36 AM

I think the combination of Rosh Hashanah and the iffy weather made the in-person turnout lower, which was a good thing considering the scaffolding made it really hard to get close to a lot of the tables (and created the pushing and shoving issue -- which, believe it or not, was much much better than usual).

The auction prices seemed as high as usual, except that a lot more items were won by people on the phone or the Internet.  And anything to do with Phantom or Sondheim wen

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/24/22  Jul 27 2022, 08:24:31 AM

In terms of the question about plays towards the end of the summer, over the past 15 years or so, Broadway has become increasingly star-driven in terms of plays, and those stars generally aren't around for all that long.  Harry Potter is rare in being a recent multi-year play.   Aside from Harry Potter, there have been a number of years where there are zero plays or one play running as of Labor Day.

NOTRE DAME DE PARIS in New York  Jul 3 2022, 01:53:52 PM

In a weird coincidence, Les Dix Commandements (The Ten Commandments), which came out in 2000 and was the next big French musical after Notre Dame de Paris, also had its New York debut a couple of months ago.  I'm not sure what the history and tradition of the French stage musical tradition are, but both shows seem like they are staged very similarly -- relatively bare stage, lots of ensemble dancing around in similar costumes, much more of an emphasis on lighting than set or costume

MJ audience + seating advice  Jun 23 2022, 03:06:30 PM

Does anyone know if Myles Frost has been doing all 8 shows since the Tonys or if he has any upcoming absences?  I'd love to see him if I can.

THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH Previews  Jun 2 2022, 12:22:49 AM

Where were the snacks?  Were they at the bar?  I somehow missed them entirely.

HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE Previews  May 5 2022, 12:47:25 AM

While they each have had their share of duds, I think MTC, Roundabout, Lincoln Center Theater, and now Second Stage are an indispensable part of Broadway IMO.  A show like How I Learned to Drive would be a major financial risk for a commercial producer.

It is striking to me that the four non-profits' spring plays were all originally scheduled to close on May 29, and only one of them, Take Me Out, is extending, and even Take Me Out is closing the day before the Tonys.

LCT Membership Is Now Open  Apr 9 2022, 09:05:50 AM

Thank you so much for alerting us!  I have been waiting a long time for the membership to reopen.  I think it's been over five years.

I get the sense that they lost quite a few members during the pandemic, but I think it will fill up again quickly.

Anna Uzele To Depart SIX on March 13, 2022  Mar 9 2022, 08:31:39 AM
It sounds like Fuller isn't officially Jane Seymour until Monday. But has Abby Mueller already started her leave of absence? I'm wondering if we've already had the final performance of all 6 original Broadway queens.
Thank you Ryan Lowe (and the cast of Chicago)  Nov 14 2021, 02:05:51 PM

Roman, that was a really nice thing that Ryan Lowe did for you!  I hope you had a great birthday!

Hadestown on a very thin Budget  Oct 8 2021, 02:47:59 AM

When people are talking about left or right, do they mean audience left or stage left?  I sat audience left/stage right, and I was glad I was on that side rather than the other side.  There is a key scene towards the end of the show that I think is better viewed from that side if your ticket is an extreme left or right.

Entire original cast of SIX to return to B'way  Aug 6 2021, 05:56:33 PM

Scarlet Leigh, thank you for your insight and clarification about how things are planned to work on Broadway.  It sounds like there might be an alternate on every so often, but it won't be a regular occurrence like it is in London.

Entire original cast of SIX to return to B'way  Jul 28 2021, 05:49:39 PM

Discussion online implies that the London production has the alternates go on regularly.  It sounds like each of them has a planned appearance around twice a week.  Does anyone know if there are particular days or times that more typically have alternates, or particular performances that are unlikely to have alternates?  Although I'm sure the alternates are great, there are some of the cast whom I'd like to see specifically, and I would also like to see the cast that&#3

Nope  Jul 27 2021, 01:28:43 PM

I don't remember the show in that much detail, either, but the show was not graphic at all.  IIRC, no nudity, no sex scenes, no "money shot."  There was some racy talk, but that was all.
