LEMPICKA Reviews  Apr 15 2024, 05:17:59 PM

Perhaps she thinks standing ovations should be mandatory?

I think the creative teams shouldn't represent any characters negatively and shows should not have villains or any nasty things like conflict or nasty words.

John Napier's Brilliant Set Designs for the original SUNSET BOULEVARD  Apr 12 2024, 03:25:51 AM

John Napier- what a legend. I encountered him a few times and yes he often seemed like a curmudgeon, but what a genius!  Arguably the most important contributor to the mega-musical movement (though his designs could also be sparse and very economical).

Where Are You, Dollypop?  Apr 1 2024, 02:14:31 PM

I hope Dollypop is OK.

What happened to the old days?  What happened to the neighbourhood?

SWEENEY TODD To Close On May 5, 2024  Mar 13 2024, 03:34:53 AM

Should have been Lea Salonga.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA musical headed to the UK and West End in 2024  Feb 29 2024, 01:23:06 AM

I can't wait for the Optics Police to yell about how they replaced a female director, set designer, costume designer, and lighting designer, and a trans female choreographer, with men for the London revisal."

Well those people all clearly did a super job.

Stephanie J. Block in Kiss Me, Kate – London  Jan 17 2024, 03:37:08 AM

I hope the book gets a trim.

Nicole Scherzinger to star in West End Sunset Boulevard at the Savoy  Dec 3 2023, 03:47:55 AM

Ultra Tory Andrew Lloyd Webber asks for state funding... not for healthcare or homelessness, just for the thing he likes.

Here We Are  Nov 27 2023, 12:43:23 AM

It would be great to record this to add to the archive of Passion, Sunday and Into the Woods videos.

Who knows what's playing ??? No one in Brooklyn.....!!!  Nov 25 2023, 09:21:53 PM

An Uber?  Is that a new-fangled thing?

Old Friends - Broadway?  Nov 15 2023, 03:47:35 AM

I smell PR bluster to shift seats in London.

Imelda Staunton & Jenna Russell to lead HELLO DOLLY in London  Nov 3 2023, 04:50:12 AM

She was a ham in Sweeney Todd; she was a ham in Into the Woods; she was even a ham in The Wizard of Oz.  Ham to the bone.

I trusted Whizzer's reviews more than most mainstream publications.

And Passing Strange

Where Are You, Dollypop?  Oct 28 2023, 01:46:56 AM

My bad. It was actually Pal Joey who people have said is still around. I had a couple of run-ins with Pal Joey — he criticized me personally for not liking a couple of shows he loved), so i sometimes interchange them. It is After Eight who I was referring to in my post. So negative and dismissive of anything produced after about 1980."

I would never confuse those two I always assumed After Eight was a troll, whereas Pal Joey is a BWW national treasure!

Where Are You, Dollypop?  Oct 27 2023, 02:48:12 PM

Sorry, who said After Eight was still around?

There were some great contributors on the West End board, including Wickedboy, Songanddanceman and Scripps.

I guess they moved to a UK based board?

Dance of the Vampires Revival?  Oct 27 2023, 04:30:44 AM

Whilst it's true that Crawford has a monster-size ego, he was right that the show needed to change when it moved from Europe.  The Euro taste in musicals is so different- Starlight Express is still running???- the original never managed to deal with the inherent camp by embracing it more or eradicating it totally.

Broadway had some stunning moments- I recall the ballroom flying especially- but maybe what this needs is a more immersive low-tech, grungy intimacy?

But who

Sondheim/Ives HERE WE ARE @ The Shed  Oct 3 2023, 06:52:04 AM

Can anybody explain what the new final reprise is?

Movie Adaptions that Got Stuck Out-of-Town  Oct 3 2023, 06:09:51 AM

George Stiles (composer) is probably too busy raking in the $$$$$$ from producing SIX!

Sondheim/Ives HERE WE ARE @ The Shed  Oct 1 2023, 02:59:54 PM

Stand or fall, they can say this is 100% Sondheim.  It is a "pure" representation, if not complete.

It's a shame they don't have a "Sunday" for a grand finale, but it would feel like a very public compromise to add additional material that would probably just end up being a distraction anyway.

Sondheim/Ives HERE WE ARE @ The Shed  Sep 29 2023, 03:13:40 AM

On the boards we will inevitably play "what if", but it is a relief that something special is being presented as "what is".

So probably entirely premature, but best revival and best musical would be a grand finale.
