re: A Tale of Two Cities= A Tale of Two Acts (8/20, 8 PM)  Aug 24 2008, 12:48:29 AM
I saw it twice in Sarasota. Loved it. Haven't seen it in NYC. Agree the comedic gravedigger number can go. The stars and "guillotine slice" were not present in Sarasota. Loved Barbour in spite of Xenu and the RPF (google it). At first I thought the show's biggest problem was that epic literary musicals were not currently in vogue, but after reading some of the positive reports, I think maybe the audience for that type of show still exists and is underserved. That could be an asset for TOTC

Tim Hartman...had a small role, doesn't really register with me now.

The show is not sung-through, but there is a lot of sung dialogue.

The show does run just under three hours. It started at 2 and when I looked at my watch in the parking lot it was 4:55.

It was very good but needs some work. The first act needs to be tightened. I also thought it needed a stronger opening to draw the audience into the story.

It really comes to life when James Barbour comes in, about halfway through Act 1. He owns this show. He gave me chills and had me tearing up more than once. Natalie Toro is also great. "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" was pretty amazing. Derek Keeling is okay but can't hold a candle to Barbour.

The second act is tighte

I read she has extended in Vegas through February. Don't know what comes after that.

Sarasota and Clearwater also, in December.
re: Has Rachel York ever...NOT been brilliant?  Aug 12 2007, 05:57:22 PM
Don't forget her Officer Nasty on Frasier. That's one of my favorite episodes.

I saw 42nd Street from the rear mez and it was fine.
re: Favorite All Shook Up Moments/Elements...  Jun 25 2007, 09:08:57 AM
How is Jannie Jones in the tour? I found out she was in it after it came through Florida, and now I'm kicking myself for missing it.

There's Always Me is my favorite part of the show.

re: Getting cheap tix to NY City Center's GYPSY?  Jun 21 2007, 10:42:27 AM
I saw Wonderful Town from the gallery and it was just fine, especially considering my tix were $12.50 at TKTS. If I were in NYC I would definitely buy the $25 front gallery tix.

I happily ordered the second pressing. It came today and I can't stop playing it.
re: Dreamgirls DVD Special Packages  Apr 30 2007, 06:36:42 PM
I'm buying the 3-disc for myself at Target, then I'm going to buy the single-disc at Wal-Mart for my mom for Mothers day. And keep the remix CD since she won't want it anyway.
re: Big River  Jan 12 2007, 01:43:08 AM
I saw the national tour in the 80's and the tour of the DeafWest production. The DeafWest production was stunning, but, yeah, it's a little soon for another revival.

The phrase "unexpected key change" has gotten me very excited.
re: How long did The Last 5 Years run?  Sep 26 2006, 10:52:12 PM
When I saw it, the theatre was so empty they closed the balcony and reseated everyone in the orchestra.
re: Any info on John Cameron Mitchell?  Sep 22 2006, 08:39:00 PM
isntitromantic and EnchantedHunter, are you the same person?

Please tell me there's not more of you here.

I saw the trailer for Shortbus last weekend. It looks good, and the reviews have been good too.

Please, let's keep moralism and art appreciation separate.
