Bernadette Peters & Lea Salonga to Lead OLD FRIENDS On Broadway  Apr 18 2024, 04:35:35 AM

Look, some of them were great - but how large is Cameron’s ego if he thinks that they were SO GOOD that it requires an equity transfer and additional overheads. My honest opinion is that some of the cast will fall flat in NYC and the audience will be asking ‘why’. I think I have realised that Cameron’s ego is high though - I watched him watch the opening of Old Friends a couple times during the run and he literally stayed to laugh at his own joke in the pre-show announ

LEMPICKA Reviews  Apr 16 2024, 02:24:10 PM

Sorry to be one of those people, but I couldn't help myself and 'hear' about some of the music - at least from La Jolla. Eden sounded a little off pitch in 'Woman Is" all the way back then! However, I'm struck just at how beautiful some of the music is. "I Will Paint her", "Woman Is", "In The Blasted California Sun". I don't think these are just average songs, and Eden's beautiful low vocals wraping throughout are so nice and unus

Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler to star in ROMEO & JULIET on Broadway?  Apr 16 2024, 09:56:59 AM

I agree the chances of a Tom holland production transferring now seem more questionable. But honestly I think these two productions could be running concurrently and Tom holland would still sell every seat at full price. Feels more distasteful than financially risky to have both.

Operation Mincemeat Musical - London  Apr 16 2024, 09:53:37 AM

in my opinion the show is British but not ‘too British’. It follows the craft and form of well made American musicals - it’s just that some of the references, humour and story of course is very British. But in an accessible way that would appeal not turn people away. Very different than standing at sky’s edge - which rejects some of the form and tradition and American musicals, is a different musical style, is very very local in terms of story. THAT show is ‘too

Nicole Scherzinger to star in West End Sunset Boulevard at the Savoy  Apr 15 2024, 11:15:41 AM

I think what I’d say about the screen is it kind of works for the concept because it’s about films. And there are far less gimmicky uses of the screen throughout than the title song. I have to agree that I think people are distracted here at the technical feat than the story telling - but there is A LOT of good story telling. For example, one of the early questions was whether Nicole looked too young. Well they project her face on a giant screen and compare it to young Norma while

2024 Olivier Awards - Predictions/News & Discussion Thread  Apr 14 2024, 05:00:03 PM

It’s literally a cardboard cut out. A reference to how they do the scene in the show where they have a cardboard cut out of ALW for humour. It’s probably the same one that was in the show lol.

Nicole Scherzinger to star in West End Sunset Boulevard at the Savoy  Apr 14 2024, 04:16:50 PM

A killer night for Sunset at the Oliviers, Best Revival, Actress, Actor, Director among others. They couldn't have asked for a better time! I know awards don't always mean much (after all, "Back to the Future" won best musical a couple years ago!). But so nice to see this recognition. Truly one of the greatest theatre experiences I've ever had.

2024 Olivier Awards - Predictions/News & Discussion Thread  Apr 14 2024, 04:10:22 PM

Wow Tom Francis has also just won actor for Sunset! Sunset is sweeping tonight!

2024 Olivier Awards - Predictions/News & Discussion Thread  Apr 14 2024, 03:40:59 PM

Interesting that Sunset has taken best revival over guys and dolls. In any other year it’d be guys and dolls, but this production of Sunset is historic!! Can’t wait for Nicole to take her award soon!

Operation Mincemeat Musical - London  Apr 14 2024, 04:39:25 AM

I finally saw this and agree it’s fantastic. I could easily imagine this on a NYC stage. I’m guessing it will win the Olivier for best musical this evening.

Have you/will you see this show?

Patti LuPone Will Return to Broadway in THE ROOMMATE Opposite Mia Farrow  Apr 11 2024, 12:00:24 PM

Mmm. Not sure why all the Patti hate. We are literally talking top tier greatest Broadway actor of all time status alongside people like Lansbury and Bernadette. I guess people seem to have an issue with her arrogance or feeling like she is beyond ‘paying her dues’ but at this point I think her arrogance is warranted and she is beyond the literal paying of her dues. This is not just some equity actor - this is Patti LuPone. She can do what she wants! And it’s part of her per

Bernadette Peters & Lea Salonga to Lead OLD FRIENDS On Broadway  Apr 10 2024, 11:38:16 AM

The reason why this didn’t feel like a tribute band in London is because of Bernadette, Lea and some of the other artists. Many of the performances were among the best I’d ever heard these songs before. It really felt like an event - yes a bit of greatest hit vibe - but an event. It’s much different in vibe than say Sondheim on Sondheim. If they can get the right cast, I honestly think there will be a lot of interest and positive word of mouth. It might feel like there is a

Bernadette Peters & Lea Salonga to Lead OLD FRIENDS On Broadway  Apr 8 2024, 04:40:31 PM

I’m dead serious almost no one knows who Bernadette is in London besides of course core fans. Trust me I talk to enough people in all different kind of demographics to get a gauge for this kind of thing. It’s a completely different story to the USA/New York. There is a reason her last concert tour to the UK was cancelled - it didnt sell many tickets (outside the core theatre fans in London). Bernadette is a much bigger star in New York and will sell many more tickets.&nb

Bernadette Peters & Lea Salonga to Lead OLD FRIENDS On Broadway  Apr 8 2024, 03:29:34 PM

The problem with London is that no one knew who Bernadette was. I'm sure it'll do just fine - no issues for people getting tickets of course but I wouldn't expect to see the 'half empty houses, la, la, la' that we saw in London.

I kind of wish they would bring the real heavy hitting Sondheim Alumni back - Patti, Donna, Raul, maybe Sutton now I guess etc. to make it a true event but I'm guessing if they're already (and only) announcing Bernadette & Lea it

Tom Holland's Romeo and Juliet to Transfer to Broadway?  Apr 8 2024, 02:46:50 AM

I would expect ticket prices to be wild - it was one of the most difficult tickets to get the demand was wild. This is a major a-list celebrity and 'heartthrob' personality in one of the most iconic plays, playing Romeo. A very, very rare Broadway event. Daniel Radcliffe is incredible but even if he is not quite the same celebrity as this.

CABARET at the Kit Kat Club Previews  Apr 7 2024, 08:37:05 AM

Feidlimid said: "Simply don't see the point of posts which go, heard fromso-and-so andthey had this to say. At least a personal opinioncan be given more credence."

I understand and I wouldn't normally, but at least it can add a further perspective that you can choose to ignore or not.......the reaction to this revival on this board has been a bit confusing and odd to say the least. It's also all over the place in terms of mixed reactions, it's really

CABARET at the Kit Kat Club Previews  Apr 7 2024, 04:33:25 AM

Heard from someone who saw it in London (Eddie & Buckley) and they seem to suggest it's all gone down hill a bit and odd chemistry between the leads, except Bebe Neuwirth. So It's currently unclear to me whether some of the surprising criticism this time round reflects inherent flaws in the production or an actual difference experience (perhaps both!).

Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York)  Apr 7 2024, 04:21:12 AM

The last time I walked out of a show before this one thinking it was so "utterly charming" was Kimberly Akimbo. This show may not be as expertly written but it's full of so much heart, humour and some catchy tunes that I would be shocked if anyone didn't walk out with a big smile. The cast is great - Sam in particular has found his own special kind of lead role in a new show, and although occasionally it feels like the legacy of Michael Greif's direction might slip throu
