A very sad day. Everyone has a musical that takes the top spot and for me A Chorus Line was the one. I, too, loved Smile ...
Anyone see the original  May 25 2012, 04:31:55 PM
I saw the original London cast with Conti/Craven, I loved it to bits and have both cast recordings.
The END OF THE RAINBOW Love Thread.  Apr 18 2012, 07:10:56 AM
PalJoey said, "Tracie Bennett is obviously a talented woman".

Thank you for your honesty, you've restored my faith in human nature a little bit with that remark...

The END OF THE RAINBOW LOVE (only) thread.  Apr 8 2012, 05:32:40 PM
I really enjoyed it. I acknowledge there are faults but I have to say Tracie Bennett turned in what was for me a mesmerizing performance.

I'm not a huge Judy Garland fan and I'm possibly one of the few people on earth at this time who disliked 'The Wizard of Oz' but Tracie opened my eyes to what a powerhouse Judy must have been as a live performer.

It was almost devastating at the end when the pianist walked out and announced she died two weeks later at the age of forty seven

Just back from END OF THE RAINBOW!  Mar 22 2012, 02:29:45 PM
I saw this last September in Cardiff. I was aware of the fantastic reviews the show and Tracie had received in London and as Cardiff was an easy step for me I went and I was so glad I did.

I thought it was a great show, a little slow at first but moving, funny and extremely touching.

Tracie Bennett turned in an incredible performance with an energy I won't ever forget.

I came away with the impression that she was channeling Judy. I've watched Tracie on British TV sinc

Judy Garland Musical 'END OF THE RAINBOW' Headed To Broadway March 2012  Oct 4 2011, 04:59:45 AM
You're right Bennett is no Garland but then who is?

What Bennett brings to this piece is an insight into what Garland's persona and energy was like and she does rise to the occasion.

In terms of performance Bennett hit a 'ten' a couple of times through the show when I saw it last week.

Smile The Musical  May 16 2010, 09:20:02 AM
I wish Marv would get over himself and allow a full recording to be made, I love the four tracks that were done for the Unsung Musicals series.

I'm in the UK and several years ago when I discovered this wonderful score through my visits here, I sent to Samuel French for a copy of the demo recording. They came back to me and said it was the express wishes of Mr Hamlisch that this recording never be sent to the UK. Bit of a 'gulp' moment all in all...

I can't fathom out why I had such low expectations for this film, but I must confess to really liking all the pieces I am hearing.

My high hopes for the La La Song, are now stratospheric...

re: How many times have you seen Wicked  Oct 19 2009, 10:39:48 AM
Twice. In previews in London and again a month later to confirm if it was really that good. I concluded it was, so did my daughter.

Have the original cast recording and the German.

re: New Fame Trailer  Jun 21 2009, 06:58:19 AM
I had a few tingles, I loved the original film back in the days of VHS and never missed the TV series, it was huge here in the UK...
re: What Broadway stuff did you get for Christmas 2008?  Dec 24 2008, 10:36:39 AM
Howard sing Ashman. It's always great to hear how the songs were born. The Smile disc is peachy, Ashman and Hamlisch sing with so much vim and vigour, their enthusiasm is palpable, who knew from listening to this, it could end so badly.

re: Pierce Brosnan in Mama Mia Movie  Jul 24 2008, 06:09:45 AM
It's a shame that this film will be remembered for the awfulness of Brosnan's voice. There's a lot to be said for dubbing...
