The Theatres They Didn’t Get  May 28 2021, 06:08:53 PM

I am thinking of successful shows, when the 3 big theatre owners bid for a show.

Take Broadway’s longest running show, The Phantom of the Opera, obviously the Shuberts were successful in the Majestic. This didn’t stop the Nederlanders offering the Minskoff, this got struck down very quickly, however Jujamcyn offered the Al Hirshfeld rent free until they recouped. Cameron Mackintosh wanted the Al Hirshfeld. However the Shuberts pitched on the extra seats in the Majestic

Broadway to reopen Sept 14  May 5 2021, 10:44:57 PM

When it comes down to the vaccine I don’t believe anyone in immunosuppressed and no one has a reaction to it. What I do believe is that anti-vaccine is a multi-billion dollar industry, as pointed out by Dr Sanjay Gupta on his excellent documentary on CNN, they look to sell you something else like a remedy to drive metals out of your body.

If Covid affected the young, they be queuing around Walgreen for the vaccine.

EVERYBODY'S TALKING ABOUT JAMIE American premiere set for 2022 at the Ahmanson  Apr 13 2021, 05:02:45 PM

I wonder if this is playing Los Angeles so early, just after the holidays, whether they’re looking to go to New York for the Spring?

Also will be a shame to play the West Coast and not play San Francisco, where it would go down a storm?

BWay Shows That Did Not Get a Cast Recording  Mar 1 2021, 07:04:11 PM

Broadway cast of Billy Elliot.

HAMILTON -> Las Vegas?  Mar 1 2021, 07:02:12 PM

Nah, It was last on the strip, Vegas doesn’t do serious shows, I give it a year at most.

I would have thought Wicked or Book of Mormon would be better shows and surprised they’ve not sat down there.

Still waiting for Spider-Man to open, after being promised by the producers.

Apple Music vs Spotify for Broadway  Jan 27 2021, 04:17:08 PM

I can get the revival cast recording on Spotify in the UK, which is interesting.

In the US can you get the Broadway recording of Chess on Spotify? I cannot get that in the UK. Can you get the London recording of Chess in the US or the Royal Albert Hall recording?

About the Tonys  Jan 26 2021, 08:02:36 PM

An award shouldn’t be about benefits.

It should be about recognising excellence, then rewarding the best.

Mean Girls to close  Jan 11 2021, 09:31:38 PM

@Phantom there is only so much a landlord can do. It's a pretty small line item. And publicists? HOw do you think you get bodies in the seats? LOL naiveté on display I'mafraid. And as I said producers are ready to invest in new shows for which there will be an audience without tourists. As I also said, expect 6 or so total: half new, halfrock solid sellers.

Mean Girls to close  Jan 10 2021, 10:30:50 PM

Theatre landlords will more than likely give cuts in rent or rent holiday to get shows back on their feet. Other concessions could be worked out with the Mayor and Governor. Maybe jettisoned some of the excessive, like why does a featured actor need a publicist? All the press representatives and lawyer.

Producers’ aren’t going to invest in new shows, until they have seen the lay of the land and existing shows do well. When new shows do come they will be likel

I do think there will be more closures but I think you're wrong about Hadestown, TKAM, JLP and Ain't Too Proud. The

Broadway 2021: What To Expect When New York Turns The Lights Back On  Jan 1 2021, 03:35:14 PM

HogansHero said: "@ Fosse76 re union and contract employees. To the extent that's the case, I don't think it is a practical one. Unions that don't want this protection for its members will be few and far between (and in particular as to theatrical unions) and contractemployees rarely have long-term contracts. Also, as I think a lot of people will henceforth be working remotely, this will be partly mooted. And re legal liability, that's easily solved legislatively if i

Broadway 2021: What To Expect When New York Turns The Lights Back On  Dec 31 2020, 06:24:28 PM

I suspect Broadway will initially open with masks and social distancing, to give the impression that they’re taking Covid seriously, but very very quickly the mask and the distancing will drop away.

However you will still have the same lines for the bathrooms.

Rebecca Luker Has Passed Away  Dec 23 2020, 03:05:30 PM

Absolutely dreadful news. You had the passing of Marin Mazzie, a couple year back, more recently Nick Cordero and now Rebecca Luker, all died way too young. God life can be so cruel.

Why Do Shows Change Theatres During their run?  Dec 12 2020, 06:57:31 PM

It used to be far more common to move shows, than it is now, especially to the Broadway Theatre, which is one of the largest theatres on Broadway and the the biggest house in the Shubert Organization portfolio.

South Pacific transferred from the Majestic.

The Most Happy Fella transferred from the Imperial.

The Music Man transferred from the Majestic.

Fiorello transferred from the Broadhurst.

My Fair Lady transferred from the Broadhurust the show opened

Ben Brantley Steps Down  Dec 10 2020, 09:36:03 PM

When will the Tony Awards be presented?  Dec 9 2020, 07:19:16 PM

The league ain’t going to announce the winners until after the election college certificates the winner of the election. Just prevents rigged fraudulent votes, especially the ones that are mailed in. winkwinkwink

Faucci Says By Beginning of April, Everyone Could Get Vaccine  Dec 7 2020, 04:16:10 PM

The anti vaxxers who believe they’re being micro-chipped through the vaccine and Facebook are a lost cause I’m afraid.

Once the vaccine is offered and taken Covid cease to be a possible fatal virus and becomes a preventative illness, so if you don’t take the vaccine and go down, it is down to you I’m afraid.

I bet in March/April you wouldn’t have so many anti vaxxers.
