Is Cabaret the next Chicago?  May 13 2024, 09:03:34 AM

Wow I didn't realize it's $29 cocktails but at least the schnapps shot is free.

I know in other theaters a double size of red/white wine cost almost $40.

If the bartenders get to keep all their tips, they'll be making $$$. I have a feeling they share those tips with all the beverage staff though.

OH MARY! Officially Transferring to Lyceum Theatre this Summer - 12 Weeks  May 13 2024, 08:44:28 AM

  • No matinees
  • performances at 5pm and 8:30pm on Thursdays & Saturdays
  • dark Sundays
  • 7:30pm all other nights

Wonder how those 5pm Thursdays will do in the summertime... Really only works for tourists/vacationers, people who don't work, and people who work irregular schedules, which aren't usuallythe demographics for a new play.

It will allow some people to do a 3-show day (2pm, 5pm, 8pm), but those avid theatergoers don't fill the house.

"

American Utopia also had a 2 show Saturday that was not the norm. I think it was 5 & 9? or 5:30 & 9:30?
"

Yup it was 5pm and 9pm on Saturdays back in 2022 at the St James Theater. From what I remember it was a 6 show week from Wed-Sun with 2 shows on Saturdays.

As for Oh Mary, it is interesting why they're opting not to have matinees as it excludes a certain market. At Lucille Lortel, they had 2 performances on Sundays set at 2pm and 5:30pm and obviously it worked well but at the same time, that theater is 1/3 the size of the Lyceum.

There was also never such a financial barrier of entry to that production versus this production. So yes, you have the affluent people spending their money now but they'll run dry. It's not likely to win many (if any) Tonys next month. Revival will go to Merrily and in the chance that he wins actor, Eddie Redmayne won't stay beyond

Pineapple Room  May 12 2024, 12:58:46 AM

The pineapple room is pretty much where the mezzanine bar was located when I saw Funny Girl in the same theater last year. They changed the color of the lights and decor to make it look like a pineapple room.

Did they not have a dress rehearsal?

The Tony nominators should've shown lots more love to 'Here Lies Love'  May 11 2024, 10:11:40 AM

Given the current setup, we'll never know the answer. I agree transparency can hurt too but at least we all know the truth.

Also, for Best Musical or any category, if there are 5 nominees, it's totally possible to win that category with only 21% of the

Gatsby or Merrily?  May 11 2024, 09:50:04 AM

I think the IP is strong for Great Gatsby in NYC area. I had to read the book back in high school and I presume majority of Americans did so as well. Folks are somewhat familiar with the story and that helps in selling tickets.

As for between the two, Merrily is my answer too.

Transparency.

Though some shows like How to Dance in Ohio, Harmony, Heart of Rock Roll, etc didn’t get any Tony nominations, we can at least see if there were Tony voters who gave them some love.

The Tony nominators should've shown lots more love to 'Here Lies Love'  May 10 2024, 08:24:05 AM

Also remember that Tony Awards is a competition so you have to take in consideration the other nominees this season. Had Kimberly Akimbo, A Strange Loop, Moulin Rouge, Hadestown, Band’s Visit, Dear Evan Hansen, and Hamilton been in the same season together, unfortunately only 4 or 5 would be nominated for Best Musical.

I loved Here Lies Love and looking back, I think it would have fared better had it gone to Broadway during the 2013-2014 or 2014-2015 seasons. Would it have b

THE HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL Opening Night Critics’ Revies  May 10 2024, 12:44:39 AM

I watched the show this evening and the balcony was definitely open and people sat there. It wasn't full but it's interesting how the theater stopped selling Balcony seats.

Tony Award tickets  May 9 2024, 04:45:57 PM

What is the reasoning for not having it at Radio City Music Hall this year? Is Radio City Music Hall not available? Too expensive?

Article: OPERATION MINCEMEAT... plots its course to New York  May 8 2024, 12:59:16 PM

I agree. $14m is a lot of money and this is not including the weekly nugget/running costs.

I think a good number of people who have Netflix here in USA is familiar with the story from watching the movie starring Colin Firth and Matthew MacFadyen on Netflix back in 2021.

As far as accents go, the play Ferryman had strong accents and still recouped on Broadway.

Hopefully it will be able to find enough investors to bring it to Broadway.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/5/24  May 7 2024, 01:41:44 PM

Did something happen at Wicked? Just baffled by the $340k drop compared to the week before whereas Lion King remained the same. In recent weeks it's been Lion King & Wicked in the top 2 spots.

If they don’t do a two week notice, I think they’re still obligated to pay the actors for 2 weeks?

It’s already recorded - just awaiting a release date. Corey Cott mentioned at the SD on opening night that they had a listening party for it a few days prior

Thrilled to hear this! I’m hoping they’ll release it soon as it helps with marketing.

I hope they did something with the balcony since it seems faaaaaar when sitting up there.

Is Ben Platt Reopening The Palace theatre with a concert for his new Album?  May 6 2024, 03:17:10 PM

I’m just surprised he hasn’t released the full album yet. In my experience I’d listen to the album first and if I like it, then buy a ticket to the concert.

Any luck moving to a closer, empty seat once you’re in the theatre?  May 4 2024, 08:52:09 PM

Had standing room at ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE during previews and after they closed the doors, an usher told us to follow her and she led us to empty seats! That show has a strict no late seating policy.
