re: So What's Second Stage Going to Replace 'M/M Fitch' With?  Mar 12 2009, 12:39:28 AM
There is plenty of time for a new show, it will be replaced. Trust me when I say that things have been turned around in a shorter amount of time. And my best guess is that it will probably be something new.
re: What are your favorite places to eat in the city?  Feb 8 2009, 09:54:30 AM
Empanada Mama, on 9th between 51st and 52nd. I miss it so much since I moved, I tried to make my friends FedEx me some food. Also, Buttercup Bake Shop. And my friends and I have a spcial place in our hearts for Dallas BBQ, but I wouldn't put it in the "must-go" category.
re: NYTimes: Walk-Outs at The Cort Because of Prez Pee-wee  Feb 7 2009, 02:34:41 PM
Just six people? Oh god, there were times when that would've been considered a great day at my last job (Second Stage). And you're right, Pippin, in general penis offends people enough to leave a theater, whereas girly parts are perfectly fine.
re: Post Broadway Song Lyrics to Celebrate Obama's Inauguration  Jan 20 2009, 02:00:31 AM
I respect people's views, etc. but if you aren't happy with our soon to be president, don't come and post on a "celebration" thread. If you want to start a policy discussion/argument, take it to the OT boards.

And, since everyone stole the songs I immediately thought of, I'll go with more of a stretch:

"One day you're slinging hash
Feeling so rejected
Lightning flash, you get resurrected
Make a splash- now you rate the big
Bravissimo
And with a thundercrash

re: Is something going on with the ushers at Shrek?  Jan 19 2009, 05:25:20 PM
"To clarify, I have never had static on my headsets from an audience member's cell phone. The phone has to be pretty close to the headset to cause this. "

For the record, my headset did get crazy feedback from people's phones while I was standing in the house. And it wasn't other people with their phones near their packs, because I always asked and was sometimes the only person having the problem (as the only staff member standing in the back of the theater). I'm not sure if it was just

re: Is something going on with the ushers at Shrek?  Jan 17 2009, 11:30:43 AM
Mamie, as far as I know, most people who actually ask people not to use their phones request that the patron take it to the lobby. You would be surprised how huge of an inconvenience this supposedly is. Other than a movie theater I've been to in Brooklyn, I have never personally known of anyone sending people all the way outside.

And, no the police don't come. I've never even seen someone enforce things to the point of fining someone. Nine times out of ten, the usher asks that the cell-

I don't know what I was expecting, I just thought the finalists would be more creative than this. *sigh*

that said, I like Prop 8 but they'll probably go with this show. As long as it's not "your mother-in-law."

Winston...sorry to tell you, but your mother is wrong.

re: Idina Menzel concert broadcast tonight on PBS  Jan 16 2009, 04:53:09 AM
One of my friends just called me all excited about watching this (she's in Hawaii, so I guess maybe it's about to come on?). It's not playing at all here in Denver! Gah! And I am not paying 20 bucks for a DVD. Idina has been growing on me, but not that much. Oh well, I assume there will be clips somewhere online eventually.
re: The most abnormal question(s) about Broadway  Jan 16 2009, 04:45:05 AM
They can't take your camera, they can only ask that you delete the pictures (and will usually watch you do so) or give them the tape. I always wondered what happened in the days before digital cameras. I know it's easy to confiscate camera film, but can you imagine taking someone's film with all the pictures from their big trip to New York?
re: What is the most number of times you've seen in a particular show in a  Jan 16 2009, 04:41:11 AM
Man, I'm impressed with you guys! The best I can do is Altar Boyz three times in a two week period.
re: Is something going on with the ushers at Shrek?  Jan 16 2009, 04:39:43 AM
It isn't expected for them to automatically know, I just think that it's nice to point out that asking them to put away a cell phone isn't some weird, arbitrary paranoia that they won't turn it off.
re: Is something going on with the ushers at Shrek?  Jan 16 2009, 04:32:20 AM
As stated before, it's actually illegal in New York for your phone to be on in the theater. And it does mess with sound equipment, headsets and possibly some of the hearing devices (which is lovely, because then the person will undoubtedly blame the house staff). And on a personal note, the only thing I could do about my house manager or stage manager coming on headset telling me to go and deal with someone who has their phone out....was go and deal with it. Maybe I should've lectured them about

If price is a factor, you may want to look outside of Times Square.
re: musicals where there is no romance plot  Jan 13 2009, 05:45:26 AM
Chicago has some relationship stuff, in a way, but I'd say there's no romantic plot.
re: Patti Lupone STOPING GYPSY DURING PERFORMANCE  Jan 12 2009, 10:44:51 PM
NYC_or_Bust...do you think that FOH staff are some form of police? Why would we be stopping drunk drivers? And I think a night in jail is a bit more severe than being removed from a theater or asked to delete the pictures from the camera, or whatever other consequence people face for taking pictures.

Anyway, though I am apparently a bit of a Theater Nazi, I think that it could've been handled differently on Patti's part. Why not just mention it to the stage manager or someone else who

re: RENT tour thread  Jan 9 2009, 01:02:03 AM
Oh God...this is highly entertaining. And yet scary as hell. I work at DCPA, and am excited for the tour...but not for the fangirls coming to see it. It's gonna be a rough season (we also have Wicked and Spring Awakening this year). Especially if Celra follows the show to Colorado.
re: Will Sunday be Stress free for me?  Jan 9 2009, 12:51:38 AM
I think you'll be fine. They aren't that far apart, just keep an eye on the time when you're at the stage door. If you're worried about food, maybe pack a reasonably inoffensive (aka something that won't be smell-able to those around you while you sit through Gypsy) snack in your bag to eat between shows.
re: Question about Etiquette  Jan 9 2009, 12:37:33 AM
I would like to note that it is particularly creepy because it seems that the sock of the sock took the time to get the title of the show wrong to seem like a new theatre-goer. Oy!
Bernadette Peters/Michael Urie Podcast  Jan 6 2009, 04:31:07 AM
It's not up on the abc website yet, Ill post a link when it is. But if you have iTunes you can download them talking about pretty much everything except her role on Ugly Betty (which they are supposed to discuss). It's really cute!

Edited to add: here's the link!
