The best seats are the ones available - and that you can afford- on the day you can attend.

I've said this before...

If you haven't seen the movie ... just IMAGINE how you would do the movie... your version will better.

I actually think he likes the word "hat."

FINISHING THE HAT
A BOWLER HAT
...can't you hide it with a hat.
...does anyone still wear a hat.

I think there are more...

God! can you IMAGINE Mirren as Desiree?

I excited before I saw Judi Dench do the role... but I think I might actually pass out, if I knew I was about to see Mirren.

The accents tend to be mid-altantic or a genergic theaTUH accent to indicate refinement and class.

RENT
re: A Little Night Music  Mar 6 2007, 03:58:00 PM
I agree with Gothampc on this one.

Desiree should be cast with someone with european sensibility. She needs to be elegant, warm, comfortable in her sexuality with the ability to funny with the lightest of comic touches. Very hard to cast.

re: Why did DREAMGIRLS close?  Mar 6 2007, 03:55:01 PM
I saw Holiday and White in Los Angeles.

Holiday is force of nature that no "acting" can match - LIke Merman in GYPSY.

But White have a "entire" performance: acting, singing, etc.

Nothing will erase my memory of Holiday, but others have held their own very well.

Sad. It is something of a miracle that cast recording ever get produced.

re: Von Smith singing AIATY on THE VIEW  Feb 28 2007, 02:48:05 PM
How many thousands of little gay boys have sung that song behind closed doors? Von Smith is just living out every show princess's fantasy. I thought he was great fun.

re: Gone With the Wind Musical  Feb 23 2007, 06:57:50 PM
I think GONE WITH THE WIND needs the dignified wise ol' slave to soften the harsh reminder that these people are owned.

The happy selfless negro helping the troubled white man is FOREVER recycled.. even up to today.

Sure Mammy is wise. She may even be smarter than her owners. But you don't give a damn that she is a slave...why? Because she is seemingly content in her servitude. This is what GONE WITH THE WIND sells you.

re: Gone With the Wind Musical  Feb 23 2007, 05:20:53 PM
True. It is not fundamentally about slavery.. but the issue of having or not having slaves weighs into the plot a wee bit with the whole civil war thing.

I suppose you could reset it in France during one of their revolutionary wars. Call it LES MIS 2.

Wait... didn't the French already do that?
