Have there ever been so many new musicals in one season?  Apr 7 2024, 06:25:54 PM

There are 15 new musicals that will be eligible for Tony nominations this season. Is that a record number? I've been in NYC since 1982 and I don't recall a season that has ever had this many!

This season of abundant openings, not to mention the plays, and the revivals of both plays and musicals, is heartening to me, but I worry that there is so much "product" on the boards right now, many will not survive...

Back to my original question, any one know if

Was it worse than "The Life"? No.Was it good? No. Is it worth $200 a ticket just to see Loretta Devine? Yes.

Just a confounding production. This isn't "Pal Joey", so why bother tricking people into thinking that's what they're getting. If this is the story you want to tell, get the rights from the Rodgers & Hart estate to do a jukebox show with

Cabaret Convention - serving food and drink?  Oct 18 2023, 09:12:24 AM

Hello!

I am going to a performance tonight that's part of the Cabaret Convention in NYC.  This show is at Jazz at Lincoln Center, West 60th Street.

Does anyone know if they are serving food and drink at these shows?  Thanks for any info!

Not having seen the stage show, how could you possibly say that you don't think watching either film will help someone understand what's happening in the show?  Your

Jewish holidays took a toll, perhaps? Numbers are down for almost everything…seems less than typical this this time of year?

Imagine what that number would have been if Lea had not had to miss the first 3 shows of the final week?

“Monty Python's Spamalot” is coming to Broadway?  Jun 30 2023, 11:48:42 AM

One of the joys of a revival on Broadway is seeing a new cast take on roles previous played by others, such as the stellar cast of SPAMALOT's original production.

I don't mind if a revival is essentially staged the same as previous productions (such as Bette's HELLO, DOLLY!) if the new cast and production is worth seeing.

I personally love this show, and the score is hilarious and wonderful.  I'm looking forward to seeing it again, and especially hoping my f

Special shout out to Benjamin Pajak as Young Guido in “Getting Tall”! That kid is going t

Santino Fontana to lead NINE: IN CONCERT  Jun 26 2023, 12:36:18 PM

Anyone else going tonight? Sad to hear Jessica Vosk has announced she won’t make this because of conflict, but I’m sure whoever we get will be great!

What a dazzling all star Broadway cast! And the original 25 piece orchestrations! And Yeston himself and original cast member Karen Akers will do a Q&A with the audience after!

I can’t wait!

RENT at Papermill - anyone seen it yet?  Jun 14 2023, 01:58:20 PM

Oh, this is sad news…

He was so sexy and charismatic in the movie version of HAIR…when he sang “I Got Life!” you had to believe him…

Rest in peace, beautiful man…💜

Norbert Leo Butz is terrific in this!  And Mary Beth Peil! Spectacular!  The entire cast is just excellent. Norbert's emotional journey in this show is harrowing and he's one of those great actors who never strikes a false note. His singing is as great as always, but it's the vivid portrayal of this character's life that struck me deeply.

Having said that, the show its self is not great. It's not really a musical, in my opinion. It's a play with songs,

I am very encouraged to see the grosses this week!  In my many years of watching these numbers, it is surprising and heartening that so many shows had such a good week in the dead of winter/January!  This does bode well for the future, I think/hope!

What is an Original Musical?  Dec 13 2022, 12:28:13 PM

Most of the great classic Broadway musicals are musicalized adaptations from other mediums (books, plays, comic strips, etc). The adaptation to the musical format makes it something new.

Original musicals obviously draw this distinction based on their “origins” hence the root word. If the origins are another media, then it’s not original. If a musical is a brand new story with brand new music, it’s “original”.

A show can be nominated for Best

Alexander Lamar said: "What was the reason gross potential isn’t being calculated (or shared)?"

There really is no such thing as a set gross potential anymore with most if not all shows using dynamic pricing. The price of a given seat could fluctuate dramatically from one performance to the next for a show's eight performance week.

They do in fact wear body mics at Goodspeed - at least the principals do in all the shows I’ve seen there…

I was surprised to see how much ITTW dropped though, when Sara Bareilles left the show.  She's an amazing draw in anything on Broadway!  Same effect when sh
