SHUCKED will close January 14, 2024; TOMMY rumored for the Nederlander  Oct 14 2023, 11:33:20 AM

I will be interested to see what happens with Shucked. Had it not been for Omicron, Waitress was poised for a very smooth transfer to NWS after its Barrymore run. That and the failure of Kinky Boots haven't made these transfers seem viable, but Titanique and Little Shop should be studied for breathing life into commercial off-Broadway where it hasn't been in decades.

MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG Previews  Sep 20 2023, 10:36:31 AM

Playbills were delivered to the theater yesterday, and must’ve been a misprint bad enough to warrant not distributing. If anyone hears what it was, would be fun to know!

I was wondering what row G of the Mezz....off to either side are like. For perspective, Row G is the first row after the aisle break in the mezz. The seats to the side (the last 4 of the row

HERE LIES LOVE - Broadway Previews  Jul 9 2023, 12:26:53 PM

Turns out the producers would rather let a couple hundred seats each night go unsold than offer rush into the afternoon. They tried to upsell me to a $59 rear mezzanine price, but it was cheaper at TKTS to sit closer.

The show itself, especially Arielle, remains great, but the transfer to Broadway is just not working. The mezzanine last night was nearly a third empty, and people were talking, on their phones, and leaving their seats constantly. The experience is so disconnected f

HERE LIES LOVE - Broadway Previews  Jun 26 2023, 12:19:20 AM

The audience demographic to me was extremely traditional, and like Pipinghot I was very happy to notice a larger presence of Filipino & AAPI audience members.

I do know they emailed people who bought Tdf for this weekend and asked if it was ok to stand on the floor, so I think they’re trying to make it feel more hip.

Since the show is opening so close to the Tonys and has no big star or cast members with huge fan followings, I’m not

HERE LIES LOVE - Broadway Previews  Jun 25 2023, 01:45:19 PM

Loved this off-Broadway, and was very glad I got to see it again on Broadway. The cast and the music is fantastic, but for as expensive as it must’ve been to mount, it came off cheap and shaky to me.

Some of it is growing pains — the floor guides are simply not doing a good enough job of gently moving the crowd, there is a lot of pushing and shoving from both staff and fellow audience members.

When dimly lit, the set is stunning. B

After reading all the descriptions I feel like the people who are on the floor are in a way being hired to do a job. Basically, to heighten the enthusiasm and atmosphere around the performance and inside the theatre. That honestly doesn't sound like my type of thing. I have no problem getting all excited during a performance, but I don't want to feel like I have to. The majority of the time I just want to sit back and enjoy what I'm watchin

David Stone may not be one of the smartest, but he certainly has some of the deepest pockets of usual suspect producers. His name’s been on the Wicked title page since 2003.

K-POP On Broadway - News & Discussion Thread  Oct 23 2022, 09:33:02 PM
Oof. As well intentioned as this may be, it doesn’t stick the landing and I cannot imagine it seeing January 2. It at once feels overly ambitious and shockingly cheap. I don’t know who the audience is for it, and their lack of a marketing campaign seems to showcase they don’t either. The house was only about 75% full at my performance and the audience was very quiet. Couldn’t in good faith recommend it to anyone, but I applaud them for trying.
ONLY GOLD Musical at MCC Begins October 5  Oct 15 2022, 10:56:05 PM

For a show with virtually no plot, it has one of the biggest identity crises of any show in recent memory. It opens with Nash at the piano - and then introduces a king and queen politely in 1920’s Paris. When the music begins with lyrics unintelligible the entire evening due to horrid sound mixing, an ensemble enters the stage doing Hamilton choreography for the next 2.5 hours and never leave.

This is less a musical and more of an Andy Blankenbuehler showcase, whi

The workers chorus of 5 is perfect for Broadway -it doesn't need to be 7.

I assure you this show has 100 problems and Anna is only one of them. While she is responsible for a lot, the core narrative and music issues would not be fixed with a different director. We got played into thinking this would be anything more than Pretty Woman 2.0, a real shame.

What’s Next For Studio 54?  Jul 13 2022, 12:44:38 PM

Every summer I hope Roundabout changes their mind about bringing in Here Lies Love…with American Utopia & David Byrne being a hit, and a need for more AAPI-centered art representing in mainstream media, I think it could be a huge hit.

Beanie Feldstein Departing FUNNY GIRL on July 31 (Two Months Earlier Than Originally Announced)  Jul 12 2022, 07:22:35 PM

Very notable that Julie was being perceived as agitating the situation by posting she was on, although never told to stop. Interesting to keep in mind when solely blaming the producers for Beanie’s hurt feelings.

Even if the show is a hit, there will always be tickets available for the standby line. And they are serious about the 7:30 ticket pickup deadline, and will release those tickets to people in line as well. I've only do

Not trying to be "that guy," but I do feel it sucks that they included the puppet but not Kennedy Kanagawa. I know he is not famous in the way they are, but neither is the cow - the only reason its so prominent to this revival is because of the work he does with it. Just feels a bit of a shame to have a nod to it without recognizing the reason it's there.

Paradise Square-Tech Stop  Jul 5 2022, 11:11:29 AM

I was at one of the early previews of Three Tall Women, and there was meant to be a really stunning transition from Act 1 to Act 2, but the downstage scrim got snagged on the set and they had to halt the show. A few stagehands had to rush on to fix it all, and they killed the sound and light cues. This unfortunately really mired what I imagine was a wonderful moment transitioning worlds, as when they picked up at the top of Act 2, the transition had been completed without us really seeing it.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 6/26/22  Jun 28 2022, 05:36:33 PM

I originally theorized in the closing announcement thread, but I have no doubt at this point CFA will run through the holidays.

Also agreed re, POTUS - the play is not good and didn’t get great reviews. The market can’t handle a surplus of inventory atm, and folks are electing for Plaza Suite, Harry Potter, or Macbeth.

FUNNY GIRL on Broadway - News & Discussion Thread  Jun 15 2022, 05:53:07 PM

Will likely leak in the coming days, but all I can say for now is this was not her originally contracted end date.
