Nicole Scherzinger to star in West End Sunset Boulevard at the Savoy  Apr 15 2024, 02:20:18 PM

JasonC3 said: "And for people complaining about people complaining about absence of a mansion, let's not forget all the posted laments of a Sweeney without the whistle. Some elements of staging become so indelibly associated with a show that it is natural a fair percentage of people will miss them. Arguing about that seems foolhardy."

Y'all, the mansion in the film is a metaphor. Doesn't mean it's the only metaphor one can employ.

Also, MRJ has now responded to Sara and completely contradicted his very own argument. He himself is telling a critic how to approach her work that she should not be critiquing how an artist approaches their own. He's made this exchange a....loop.

But he's exactly right. If a critics wants a certain type of show, absolutely nothing is stopping them from making one themselves. Evaluating the effectiveness of what the creatives were trying to create is an entirely separate thing.

There was nothing like the Kit Kat Club anyways, it is an amalgam ofmany places. Patti LuPone Will Return to Broadway in THE ROOMMATE Opposite Mia Farrow  Apr 11 2024, 10:04:30 AM

The only part of this that makes me nervous is O'Brien at the helm.

I was hopeful her recent comments about her frustrations with Bway would precede her in appearing in an Off Bway play by an exciting new playwright and directed by somebody new and exciting. Thought that could be a fun Act 3 to her career.

Did anyone see the play in its regional runs?

Otherwise, her and Mia Farrow? Yes, please!

Rialto Chatter: Will OH, MARY! and JOB Transfer to Broadway?  Apr 11 2024, 09:59:19 AM

I didn't see JOB but I must say OH MARY! transfer surprises me. Not because it hasn't been a massive hit, but because Broadway audiences are a bit more conservative in their taste.

But I also felt there was no way The Lortel was the end of the road for the play. Whether it be regional runs, such as LA, or a Netflix filming, it was destined for more life.

Bernadette Peters & Lea Salonga to Lead OLD FRIENDS On Broadway  Apr 9 2024, 10:48:51 AM

Yeah, no way. She reiterated it just recently. She'll be back in a play one day, but no more musicals, as she feels too old/they're too physically taxing.

Isaac! He's been away too long. Happy to see him coming back. I am still haunted by his Tony, which I believe would've won a Tony.

That's a very aggressive and complicated way to achieve that. I guess they really think it's the selling point, curiosity around her first score.

THE GREAT GATSBY Broadway Previews  Mar 30 2024, 09:36:17 AM

Was I the only one who absolutely expected a pop score with pop choreography? Not only is this Bway in 2024, but the Baz Luhrmann film (albeit not very good) made a bigger pop cultural mark on the culture than anything else related to this book in decades.

DeBose to host the 77th Annual Tony Awards (2024) at Lincoln Center  Mar 28 2024, 06:58:05 AM

And if indeed it is true she's coming back to Bway next year, it doesn't hurt to create some more good will, stay connected to the community.

Also, I was thinking about her recently, with Anne Hathaway revealing the effect all the online attacks of her being too perfect or having "theatre kid energy." Reminded me of the insane negativity Ariana has faced for simply showing joy for the work. She's talented and the theatre world is right to embrace her.

Exactly this. It felt like witnessing a new voice explode onto the scene. Nothing like it, and easily the best play in town.

WATER FOR ELEPHANTS Opening Night Critics' Reviews  Mar 23 2024, 09:04:40 AM

From reading the previews forum, I thought maybe Water 4 Elephants may not survive Tony season but given the reviews it may last through the summer.

i do wonder if this musical opened during the same season as Pippin back 9-10 years ago whether it would receive the same raves.

It would be buried. It was so obvious (and bizarre) the critics were pleased getting to watch fun tricks.

WATER FOR ELEPHANTS Opening Night Critics' Reviews  Mar 22 2024, 08:05:05 AM

It's truly wild when you can see the bar get lowered for a show. Some of the raves even mention things that would normally cause a production to receive a scathing pan (I still haven't forgiven Green for suddenly being uncharitably discerning with Company).

Baffling. I wonder what other twists will come with the 37 shows to open this month.

WATER FOR ELEPHANTS Broadway, not the production seen in earlier previews!  Mar 21 2024, 09:23:34 AM

I can see why some enjoy this but I found it incredibly wanting. A forgettable score with mostly banal lyrics that rarely moves the plot forward, and a book that moves between cliche and unfocused. I like PigPen, so I was optimistic. But after the first couple numbers, the score goes downhill. The energy of the first couple numbers disappeared quick and then, it's clear energy was all they had.

That said, the circus tricks are wonderful. And when the show should have the most meani
