New universal swing  Jul 3 2008, 05:12:21 PM
Speaking of Renee, I actually got to meet her the last time I saw the show (it was the crazy one where Jake was covering 2 tracks) and it was before she actually had ever gone on and she was super nice. She seems very appreciative of the opportunity to do the universal swing thing and I believe she went on the first time in Cleveland and is in Chicago to cover Michelle Knight's vacation at the moment.

I hope I get to see her sometime.

Taste of Chicago  Jun 30 2008, 06:45:24 PM
I, unfortunately, could not attend due to summer class obligations. I do, however, have a friend going. She texted me not too long ago to say they weren't allowing cameras in the seating area. They are, however, allowing them on the lawn, so she's going to try to get some good video. She also got me some temporary JB tattoos and I was slightly overexcited. I know of a few people who are going and someone is going to get some good video.

re: Rondi Reed to Return to Chicago Wicked  Jun 26 2008, 07:40:28 PM
I heard Tracy Letts speak in Chicago at the Printers Row Book Fair about a week before the Tonys and he had some really interesting things to say about Chicago theatre and the actors who choose to live in Chicago. The fact is a lot of the actors that live there CHOOSE to live there because they like doing theatre there. It's a very unique scene and there is definitely no shortage of original and amazing productions. Yes, NYC has the largest collection of theaters and lots of productions but t

I think he should get the best swing ever award for covering 2 tracks at one time. And doing an amazing job at both. That's crazy.
JB Chicago 6-10-08  Jun 11 2008, 10:31:55 PM
Yeah, a friend of mine was ushering and she said no one said anything to her about it or anything. It was just one crazy night I guess and that wasn't at the forefront of everyone's mind.

Apparently someone emailed one of the cast members and asked them about it and the cast member said that they came back out but everyone had left. Also, someone was supposed to tell the audience about it but no one did. There was obviously miscommunication.
JB Chicago 6-10-08  Jun 11 2008, 10:13:06 PM
As far as I've heard he plans on being there at least until the fall, which I would assume would mean through the summer.

I thought his acting was really great. He had a good voice, but it didn't really sound like a "Frankie" voice. Not that that's a bad thing, but it also seemed like he lacked the stamina to pull off the whole show. He got through Can't Take My Eyes okay and then he started to crack and not be able to hit some of the notes. I was really glad I got to see him though. It's nice to see lots of different people in the roles.
JB Chicago 6-10-08  Jun 11 2008, 08:00:49 PM
Well, during the back up sessions he did the Hal Miller part. There just was no sound engineer guy. Also, there were no guys except the French Rapper during the C'est Soirees-La scene. It was just the girls and the rapper. I was impressed with his french rapper actually. He was really great.

It was really funny to see Jake in the Joey part because he is waaaay too tall for it and doesn't look like Joe Pesci in the least. But he did a pretty good job and got some laughs. It wa

I went to the show last night and it was waaaaay interesting. Ryan Quinn West was out and John Hickman covered his track. Steven M. Goldsmith and Rashad Naylor were both out and Jake Speck covered BOTH of their tracks. John Michael Coppola was on for Frankie Valli which must have meant that Jarrod was out and also John Michael Dias was unavailable.

So, some things were crazy with so many people being out. On top of all that, the sound guy got really sick during the middle of Act 1 a

JB Chicago @ theatre renaming  May 22 2008, 04:59:23 PM
Yeah, that's totally my video :) And I'm pretty sure he didn't even notice. I didn't even notice until I watched the video back and I was like "Wait, what?"

And I don't know the last name of who is taking over for Lauren in Chicago, but I know that her first name is Alaina (sp?). That comes from Lauren saying "Don't worry, you'll love Alaina, she's great!" So, yeah.

re: Next Melchior in Spring Awakening is...  Apr 20 2008, 10:33:25 AM
Haha, I'm so sorry I gave you heart attack. No, no Hanson's will be in Spring Awakening. I was a fan of theirs like 12 years ago. They put on a great show.

And Drama, I'm only going by what he said after the show last night. It could be wrong information or he could be understudying the role but he said he was going to be playing that role.

I don't even love Spring Awakening that much, but I thought it was interesting info.

I also managed to snag a photo with him.
Next Melchior in Spring Awakening is...  Apr 20 2008, 01:27:08 AM
So, this evening I attended a Hanson (yes that Hanson) concert in Royal Oak, MI. One of the opening bands was Stephen Kellog and the Sixers and they have a lead guitarist named Kyle Riabko. It was his last night because he is leaving to join the cast of a certain Broadway show called "Spring Awakening". I was curious so I stopped by to say hi after the show and find out what character he'd be playing and he confirmed that he will be playing Melchior. Just though you all might be interested in hearing this. This is his website:

Chicago cast has lots of cool stuff being auctioned off.

re: BC/EFA Spring Donations  Apr 4 2008, 11:11:33 PM
In case anyone is wondering, Jersey Boys and Wicked in Chicago are both collecting. They have been auctioning off backstage tours and signed prop Sherry music for Jersey Boys. Not sure about Wicked. I was there on Wednesday and the Sherry sheet music signed by Frankie Valli went for $650. That was the only auction that night. From what I've heard from some people who work there as ushers, the backstage tour has gone for as much as $1500 dollars. They also had signed windowcards and playbil

It was definitely John Hickman. Good guess!

He was great.

Speaking of the Chicago cast...  Apr 4 2008, 01:36:19 AM
I just saw them last night! A friend of mine was going into town for a grad school interview so I tagged along and made her go to the show. She loved it. John Michael Dias was on as Frankie (I believe Jarrod was on vacation last week, and possibly sick for the beginning of this week. He was back on tonight) and Ryan Quinn West who usually does the Hank Majewski track was on for Bob. Drew was evidently sick for the evening show and Ryan found out he was to go on 45 minutes before curtain. <

I just saw on the news that it was announced. Anyone who's from the Midwest/Michigan area might want to come out. I'm mildly impressed.
