I'm also in the production, and I cannot say enough great things about this show. Of all the shows I've ever done with Prospect, this one is by far not only my favorite, but the most well-performed. This cast is incredible, and Pete has outdone himself with this score. Every time I play it, I love it more :)

Just a small correction, there were 12 of us in the pit this year, not 9. I was the reed 2 (principal clarinet/bass clarinet, solo Eb clarinet/tenor sax, and 2nd flute). No, it wasn't optimal, but I think we did a rather respectable job with the reduction (which had to be auditioned for and approved by the Bernstein Estate), as did a large majority of our audiences this year, judging by the hordes of people that made it a point to stop by the pit after every show. Hi there! :) I'm really glad you were able to see the production, and enjoyed it! I was the Reed 1 player in the orchestra, and playing this show was probably the highlight of my summer. Wasn't Mary Catherine (Beth) just AMAZING?! I was never able to get through her "Not A Day Goes By" without tearing up a little bit (and it's hard to play those flute solos when you're crying!).
Anyway, thanks for coming, and yes, wouldn't it be LOVELY to see this show on the big stage!!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to spread the word about this amazing musical that just started previews this week at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater on W. 64th Street. It's a beautiful show about the Jewish ghetto of Thereisenstadt (Terezin) founded by the Nazis as an ostensible hub of the most intellectual and artistically influential Jews in Europe, but was actually just a waystation for Auschwitz. It's incredibly moving...the score and the performances are wonderful, and it stars BWW's own Erika Amato (who tears the roof off with a gut-busting belted number that doesn't leave a dry eye in the house)!

Oh, and the orchestra is amazing.

Thanks for coming, Vespertine! :) I'm glad you enjoyed the show! Everyone involved worked REALLY hard, and we had endless hours of rehearsal over the past few days, but it was all totally worth it. (I was in the orchestra).

Just stumbled on this thread...I'm so glad that you guys like the show! We've been working really hard, and we all love this show SO much, and it's great to know that it's having an effect on people
(for those who saw the show, I'm the flutist/1st clarinet/tenor sax in the orchestra)

No, I didn't mean the union itself. I am well aware that they must join the union, and the union makes out like a bandit.
I suppose if I were to lay it bare, I meant me and my friends/colleagues, who certainly play the saxophone a hell of a lot better than those ladies in Company and the clarinet better than Miss Thing in Sweeney, and could have made some nice money doing those shows. My derision towards this concept is almost purely self-serving (with perhaps a bit of altruisitc

But, I'm sure we're in the minority on this...most people seem to think it's cool and are very impressed by it, and by and large they should be. It DOES take a great deal of talent to do this, I just really think it would be an idea better at home Off-Broadway or in regional theater than on Broadway.
(And, the nature of what I do and my training being what it is, I can't help but constantly analyze the performance and compare it to others, which may not

As a working musician and a member of the union, this concept sits uneasily with me, primarily because it takes away work from us. While there are certainly many multi-talented people out there (Donna Lynne Champlin is an EXCELLENT classically-trained flutist, for example; I myself have sung roles in about a dozen shows in my life in addition to being a Juilliard-trained classical musician), but besides the personal issue of the work not being there for the full-time hardworking musicians in thi

I saw the show on Tuesday night.
I have never liked Mary Poppins, I found the movie dull and boring, even as a child, and the books never interested me all that much. The only reason I went to the show was because my best friend gave me a ticket as a belated birthday gift, and so I was obliged to go.
It was one of the most magical nights of theatre I've experienced in a very long time. Some of the show doesn't quite work yet, and there is some tightening that needs to happen,

I cannot WAIT to see this. The orchestrator/music associate in the show that I'm currently in (The Flood) is also the conductor/pianist of Evil Dead, so I doubly want to go.
I am a HUUUUGE fan of the movies, and plan to wear ALL white and sit in the first row :-P
