LEMPICKA closing May 19  May 2 2024, 07:42:17 PM

What a shame… This was one of my favorites of the new musicals  I can’t believe Suffs and hell‘s kitchen were nominated over this.  If you haven’t seen it, I would urge you all to see it. It’s a beautiful musical.

LEMPICKA Reviews  May 1 2024, 09:38:51 PM

I caught the show with the Understudy.
I thought the understudy was terrific!!!!!!

In face, I really enjoyed the show much more than Suffs or Hell's Kitchen both which were dull to me.

I love the Lemicka story. And I loved that it spanned a whole century..

Catch it before it goes! Gorgeous set and some stunnning things  in it.

(Insert Name or Show) Was Robbed!  May 1 2024, 09:30:47 PM

I agree. Back to the Future was so well done and so much fun.

And so much better than Hells Ktichen or Suffs.

Id rather sit through that again than Suffs (ugh so preachy and we know women got the vote so where is the drama?)

and Hells Kitchen (like an episode of One Day at a Time with Alicia Keys Music. That being said, Im glad the lead in hells kitchen and Kecia Lewis was nominated.  Kecia Lewis was wonderful.

(Insert Name or Show) Was Robbed!  May 1 2024, 09:27:07 PM

To me the best musical of the year (have not seen Illiisnoise or Great Gatsby or Notebook or Outsiders

but to me LEMPICKA  was so much better than Suffs or Hell's Kitchen and even Water for Elephantts,

so Lempicka was ROBBED!

A WONDERFUL WORLD To Open On Broadway Fall 2024  Feb 28 2024, 11:30:15 PM

Love me some Louis Armstrong. So off I shlepped to New Orleans to catch this pre Broadway "celeberatiion" of Louis Armstrong's life. Unfortuantelh, this show was a total yawn. I'm surprized they are even trying for Broadway.

Instead of celebrating Loius Armtroing we find out he cheated on his wife. That in a nutshell is the whole show. Mr Armsrtoing should be turning in his grave at was is defintely not a celebration of the life of Louis Armstroing.

This should

Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season?  Jan 5 2024, 08:13:46 PM

Um  Why? Do we need another Gypsy?

Is Days of Wine and Roses the early favorite for Best Original Score at the Tonys?  Jan 3 2024, 10:56:20 AM

Listened to the album.

I find it hard to listen to. The songs are monotonic. And to quote the other writer.."There is not a tune you can hum." Muscials used to have such wonderful music. Why we all went to the theatre. This show does not have  a tune you would want to hum.

I'm sure Kelli and Brian Darcy are great in this.  Otherwise this depressing musical subject matter and atonal musicl would not work at all.   However I will not buy a ticket

COLOR PURPLE movie musical currently in development  Jan 2 2024, 09:37:16 PM

I was never a fan of the Broadway Color Purple or the revival. I never got what the fuss was about.  I never liked the musical and it cut so much of the story. I found myself yearning for the realism of the movie.

So unlike the musiclas of the 60's, where i may have been a purist and got pissed when Sweet Charity cut Baby Dream Your Dream and took Charity's Soliloquy and swapped it with My Personal Property. No such attachment has I to the musical the Color Pur

Imelda Staunton & Jenna Russell to lead HELLO DOLLY in London  Nov 3 2023, 12:01:12 AM

JBC3 said: "These criticisms sound like people reacting to Buckley all over again and things turned out fine with her. Dolly offers a lot of room for women with different personalities and styles to embody the character."

Betty Buckley is great in rolls with an edge: Norma Desmond, Rose in Gypsy ....that kind of stuff she hits out of the park but...

I  saw Betty Buckley in Dolly . And she was charmless and unfunny as Dolly. This will be the

A BEAUTIFUL NOISE: THE NEIL DIAMOND MUSICAL - P/reviews & News Thread  Oct 10 2023, 11:48:05 PM

Well I have to hand it to producer Ken Davenport who had the savvy to add more matinees. By doing this he made it from a show that is breaking even to a show that is making money. Kudos to Ken for this move.

NY City Center Encores 2024 season: ONCE UPON A MATTRESS with Sutton Foster (adapted by Amy Sherman-Palladino), JELLY'S LAST JAM, and TITANIC  Oct 10 2023, 11:45:11 PM

Oh and as for Titanic.. that show put me to sleep. I don't get the love for that one.

And Gregory Hines was wonderfful in it but other than that, I can't remember about Jelly's Last Jam. Did not make much of an impression.

I love me some Sutton Forster. i really do. The Drowsy Chaperone. (Wow) Millie (Wow) Young ]Frankenstein (Wow)but I don't think she's right for Winnifred the Wobegone like she wasn't right for Sweet Charity. I wish they were more careful casting Sutton because she shines brilliantly when the part is right. And she seems a tad off (Sweet Charity) and Possibly OUAM when the part isn't right,.

I think for Winnifred you need a Carol Burnett, a Jane Connell (who played

A WONDERFUL WORLD  Oct 9 2023, 02:07:27 AM

I caught the matinee.  The Saenger Theatre  in New Orleans is gorgeous and worth the price of admission.

As for It's a Wonderful World..I have to say the cast is very talented and works so hard. There's oodles of choreography  and being a former dancer, I tend not to kvetch about to much dancing but I found found myself saying enough already as  some of the choregraphy seemed repetiviely happy and at odds with the drea

Musical Theater Heaven!  Apr 1 2023, 01:09:55 PM

I saw the movie back in 19 seventy something and in spite of fantastic Kander and Ebb score and Minelli at her finest,  the movie was too long, unfocused and kind of dull.    In short-- a colossal dud.

So now it's a musical.

I thought  great. They  have a chance to refocus it , retool it and make it shorter. There is probably a good musical in there... right? If they focus and shorten it?

I was kind of surprised  to hear that

Thoughts on LEOPOLDSTADT  Apr 1 2023, 12:45:32 PM

I caught this a few weeks ago.

As a Jew and a theatre goer it made me angry at this badly written manipulative play.

I heard the word "jew' about 3000 times in the course of the play from on onslaught of  well to do characters I never got to known nor care about or who were well developed.

Did Stoppard or the director think for one second that if they didn't mention the word jew incessantly  we w

Sorkin and Sher to revive CAMELOT for Broadway  Apr 1 2023, 12:28:32 PM

I caught this two weeks ago at the suggestion of a casting director friend. I was hesitant as I found the movie a bore in spite of those gorgeous songs.

Not only did I find the movie a bore but I saw Camelot with Michael York on Tour and Richard Harris on Broadway. Both colossal bores in spite of gorgeous music.

This production blew me away. The direction, the staging, the singing, the casting, the scenery and the actors: sheer perfection And the rewrite while not perfect
