THE NOTEBOOK Broadway Previews  Mar 27 2024, 12:29:06 AM

Having watched the movie numerous times, I was excited for this musical adaptation but ultimately left disappointed. The music was forgettable, and the plot shallow, resulting in severely underdeveloped characters. Throughout the show, I couldn't shake the feeling that it would have been vastly improved with a more suitable creative team. Although I cried, the tears were more a result of my familiarity with the story than the show's emotional resonance. While I'm glad I

Any discounts for Six? Have some family in town end of April and they're keen to go.

DOUBT 2024 Previews  Mar 4 2024, 01:56:05 PM

I was very underwhelmed when I saw this two weeks ago. Missing its original run remains one of my biggest Broadway-related regrets, but I've read the play multiple times. The prose is so powerful that merely reading it had my heart pounding, and even discussing it could give me chills.

I had seen preliminary posts here and knew that this wasn't necessarily the best production, but still hoped it would deliver at least a little bit of a punch. Unfortunately, that was

MAMMA MIA! 25th Anniversary Tour recoups in 13 weeks  Mar 4 2024, 01:52:09 PM

I'm not surprised! The show is silly, enjoyable, and has considerable name recognition. It's also adored across multiple generations. I caught it on the West End when I was visiting London last year, and I was grinning from ear to ear the entire time - as was the rest of the audience. What are the chances it makes its way to Broadway for a limited run after the tour wraps up? I think it would do well.

MEAN GIRLS Movie Musical - News & Discussion Thread  Jan 15 2024, 05:27:24 PM

I wonder if they considered Sabrina Carpenter for the role of Cady in this. She briefly portrayed Cady on Broadway before it was shut down due to Covid, and she has gained a pretty significant following since then.

Can we get Jonathan Bailey to NY?  Jan 15 2024, 04:57:11 PM

I sincerely hope he does. The recordings of his performance as Jamie in Last Five Years are ones I frequently rewatch.

MEAN GIRLS Movie Musical - News & Discussion Thread  Jan 15 2024, 04:50:58 PM

I just got home from a showing, and I will say that this works much better as a movie musical than as a stage musical. As others have noted, the stage version was bloated, and the film's omission of many songs helps address this issue. Having seen the stage musical twice, my main complaint has always been its lack of bite compared to the 2004 film. There was no "Mean" in Mean Girls on Broadway. The movie musical recaptures some of that edge, but I agree with the observation that

MONTY PYTHON'S SPAMALOT Returns to Broadway - Opening Night Reviews  Jan 11 2024, 11:53:42 AM

I went to this last night, and unfortunately, it has become the second show I've ever walked out of. I was genuinely excited to see it, having somehow missed its original run, but within the first 10 minutes, I knew it just wasn't my cup of tea. Nothing clicked for me, and every passing minute felt like an hour. Was the original production really that much better? I saw every other show nominated that year, and I believe any of them would have been more deserving of a win, especially

Aaron Tveit, Sutton Foster will next star in ‘Sweeney Todd’  Oct 31 2023, 01:16:00 PM

There are at least two interviews I've seen where Tveit has said that Sweeney Todd is his dream role. Maybe he's got something up his sleeve that we've not seen...? Perhaps he has been looking for the chance to play a bit against type and flex some additional chops. I'm not fully convinced. But MAYBE? And I am saying this as a fan of his.

I'll be curious to see what they do in terms of promo: do they post clips of him singing the part well to ideally prove

BC/EFA Fall 2023 Collections  Oct 24 2023, 11:15:53 PM

Just got home from Merrily and Daniel Radcliffe did a fantastic job hosting a live auction. The item in question was a signed "scrap of paper" Radcliffe had typewritten on in a performance during show's off-Broadway run, and Jonathan Groff had scribbled "Love this woman" on it, referencing a woman in the audience of that particular performance with a great laugh. A bidding war commenced and it wound up selling for $1600 to a woman in the front row. Radcliffe was insane

I've seen a pic of that scene, and the billboard looks exactly like every representation I've seen of it over the past 50 years. In the context of the novel and as symbolism, aren't the eyes supposed to be "creepy" and e

Dance of the Vampires Revival?  Oct 24 2023, 11:47:31 AM

jakethesnake said: "It was the loudest show I ever heard on Broadway. And I still slept through half of it. A complete bore."

Ha! My mother saw it and slept through the entire thing, so as with all theatre, your mileage may vary,  - but particularly with a show like this.

Dance of the Vampires Revival?  Oct 24 2023, 11:38:01 AM

I had an absolute blast at this show when I saw it on Broadway. I was also thrilled to see one of the few performances when the wonderful Rob Evan went on for Michael Crawford (who, admittedly, I am not a fan of).

I do believe that if they marketed this show properly, it could have some legs. It’s been a smash hit in Germany and elsewhere. Do I think it will be a smash hit in NYC? Absolutely not. But, they marketed the original Broadway production as this serious theatr

THE GREAT GATSBY @ Paper Mill Playhouse Thread  Oct 21 2023, 06:57:20 PM

I was at the show today. It needs a lot of work, but my god, the vocals from the cast were wonderful. I’ll never regret any time spent listening to Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada singing.

The show starts off rough but does improve - particularly in Act II. That said, the show opener and Act II opener are duds that really need some work.

As others have mentioned, the audience ATE IT UP. I heard a lot of older audience members absolutely

NY City Center Encores 2024 season: ONCE UPON A MATTRESS with Sutton Foster (adapted by Amy Sherman-Palladino), JELLY'S LAST JAM, and TITANIC  Oct 16 2023, 06:18:44 PM

Anyone happen to know what time general sale kicks off tomorrow? All I'm seeing is the 17th but nothing about the time.

I didn't need to rejoin after I got in. Once I was in, I stayed in. I refreshed with reckless abandon due to all the errors, and I never got kicked back to the queue.

Tysen & Howland’s GATSBY musical team announced  Aug 14 2023, 03:08:21 PM

After three hours of trying and encountering multiple 502, 503, and 504 errors, I managed to secure tickets for the performance I wanted. The good thing is that there are still plenty of seats available. As others have said, I received an error message after submitting my payment; however, I did receive an email from the box office confirming my purchase, as well as a a follow-up email containing my PDF tickets. Glad that the ticket-buying saga is behind me and can now just look forward to se

They've just opened up a virtual queue.
