What is the highlight of your theatre going experiences?  Sep 14 2022, 06:46:39 PM

Jarethan - your mention of Lettice and Lovage reminds me of when my local professional REP theater did the show. I was lucky enough to work as an usher there, and saw the show 3 or 4 times over many many shifts. I was 16, and had just started driving, and thus worked almost every single day during the shows 4ish week run. I have such extremely fond memories of those evenings, surrounded by my much cooler college aged coworkers(a local university funded the theater), seeing absolutely masterfu

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 8/28/22  Aug 30 2022, 04:29:56 PM

lmao not to pile on but I was losing my mind trying to think what ML stood for. Can we stick with MR? Not all of us can afford the brain cells to think so hard about every shows acronym haha

INTO THE WOODS Reviews  Aug 10 2022, 04:47:52 PM

how bad is partial view here? I'd rather not spend $150+ for front mezz, but if partial view is brutal ill just spend the extra cash.

Why Have We Only Had One Broadway Revival of THE SOUND OF MUSIC?  Jul 18 2022, 12:56:48 PM

JSquared2 said: "Probably because EVERY high school and community theatre does it, so tourists would have no reason to pay Broadway prices (unless they could get Taylor Swift (or Lizzo?) as Maria.

I believe the Broadway revival with Rebecca Luker (then Laura Benanti) did not recoup.

Ironically enough to this comment, Taylor Swift was in Sound of Music in middle school. My mother knew the theater teacher who directed that production

Theresa Rebeck's MAD HOUSE in London, starring David Harbour & Bill Pullman, directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel  Jun 27 2022, 12:22:15 AM

Rebeck wrote a couple of plays that premiered at a theater I ushered at through college. All of them seemed to be okay, but nothing much more special than that(though, I will say I enjoyed her most recent piece that played last spring. It was a cheesy self referential 'celebrating our return to the theater', but it was honestly joyous). How does she keep getting work when her plays never seem to do particularly particularly well. Is there an appeal I'm missing?

The 75th Annual TONY Awards!  Jun 12 2022, 09:20:28 PM

Girl from the north country gives easily the best performance of the night so far. Wow. Bravo to them

Encores: Into the Woods to Transfer to the St. James for limited run this summer?  May 24 2022, 03:04:18 PM

How exciting!! I was so nervous I wouldn't get a chance to see the show after missing it at NYCC. Hoping you're right Kad!

West End CABARET Eyeing Broadway Transfer to the Hudson?  May 12 2022, 08:56:39 PM

this also seems to imply alan cumming returning to cabaret? what do we think the odds of that are.

I never got to see him in 2014(was 12 years old) or the 90s(was -9). It'd be really thrilling to see him in an iconic role while he's still relatively young.

75th Annual Tony Nominations  May 10 2022, 11:38:11 AM

For others who saw American Buffalo - how surprising is the Fishbourne snub to you? I thought he gave a really great performance, but it wasn't one that struck me as particularly notable or captivating. At least in direct comparison to his peer, Sam Rockwell seemed to be giving the much more interesting performance. How much of that is due to the writing and does/doesn't impact Fishbourne?

Also worthy to note is that this was the only play I've seen this season, s

Confirmed: Radcliffe to lead MERRILY revival at NYTW  Apr 25 2022, 08:31:07 AM

I agree with this. Jenna Russell has always been the standout in the pro shot for me, Mary has such an opportunity for an extremely interesting performance. I don't know Lindsay Mendez's work, but next to Groff and Radc

Confirmed: Radcliffe to lead MERRILY revival at NYTW  Apr 14 2022, 05:42:00 PM

New rumour from deuxmoi(gossip account who originally predicted Radcliffe in merrily) is about a Glee alumni "coming back to broadway in a project sure to make their old friends (and fans) cheer". Current Speculation on reddit is that Johnathan Groff will be joining this production as Frank.

Thoughts?

Beanie Feldstein in FUNNY GIRL on Broadway - News & Discussion Thread  Mar 27 2022, 09:47:25 PM

Thanks for the review NYCTBTL! Happy to see reviews with both good and bad aspects, and interested to see how the show develops. Jane Lynch may inspire me alone to buy a ticket, have been a huge fan of her since Glee.

A bit of a plea to future watchers, when you return with a review could you give thoughts on the whole show? I'm not overly familiar with funny girl so it's hard to gauge the quality of the show when it's almost exclusively discourse about Beanie

AMERICAN BUFFALO 2022 Previews  Mar 31 2022, 02:00:22 AM

I saw the show today from the recommended 400 even seats and completely cosign the view from there! The only downside is you get a decent amount of actors' backs, but for every back you see you have an actors' face playing directly to you. For the low price it was really fantastic seats, and with the discount especially so! Highly recommend.

As for the show itself it was really solid! It didn't blow me away as a play or anything, but it was a showcase for a ma

Sara Bareilles, Christian Borle, Ashley Park, and Heather Headley to Lead Encores Into The Woods  Mar 24 2022, 04:21:45 PM

My birthday is during the run of this show, was on the fence before but with this casting I think this locks me in! Very excited for this cast.

AMERICAN BUFFALO 2022 Previews  Mar 23 2022, 10:04:04 PM

Mark_E said: "As for seating, difficult to judge. I was sat in the "cheap" seats F402 and thought I had a really good view, especially for the price. I would actually think AA/BB/CC in the 300s would be restricted due to some large props potentially blocking the view, and the majority of the play is definitely played towards the "high 200's" end. Optimal spot is probably B-E in the central 200's. But I certainly wouldn't pass on the 400's for a che

2022 Tony Awards Predictions  Mar 23 2022, 03:38:49 PM

I also was one of the people surprised at the praise for Doyle? Don't get me wrong, he was great at singing the song and perfectly serviceable, but the true star in that number for me was the direction. I think a weaker actor than Doyle would've let that staging outshine them, but a stronger actor would've let it bolster them. Doyle really didn't do either for me, and his performance landed squarely above average, not quite nomination worthy.

If the poster is to be believed, a quote from the Merrily Thread:

Well, you're about to be very pleased by some news coming down the pike, though not necessarily the casting...

Say what??

Sara Bareilles, Christian Borle, Ashley Park, and Heather Headley to Lead Encores Into The Woods  Mar 16 2022, 03:42:02 PM

Call me crazy, but I am IN for a big budget Josh Groban Sweeney Todd.

Music Man Rush Line.  Feb 3 2022, 10:55:33 PM

$49 flat(includes fees and taxes). I have no clue if it's cash or card only, but I payed with card.

THE MUSIC MAN Previews  Jan 30 2022, 02:33:16 PM

Saw the show during yesterday's matinee after a rush, what a joyous time! This is my first experience with music man ever, and I really enjoyed it! I liked Hugh's performance, and Sutton was wonderful as well. The ensemble was wildly impressive, every single one of them hilarious and talented dancers. I wish I had more to say other than what an enjoyable production to see!
