Favourite Phantom?  Sep 24 2020, 10:42:43 AM

Davis Gaines

But Ben Crawford is high on my list also, so too is Ethan Freeman in his Canadian run.

I greatly dislike the trend in London in the past 10 or so years where they like to shout through the ending (go now etc), too much, over the top and just doesn't work for me.

The original production of Beauty and the Beast  Aug 28 2020, 10:38:48 AM

First time for me was the original London company, Earl Carpenter was on for the beast, and for some reason, Belle was swapped out mid way through the first half (with a 20 min pause). I was taken with the design and it was somewhat magical.

Saw the tour in Toronto in 2006 i think, had a 3rd row seat, and what stuck with me was that they seemed to try to hammer home the fact that the longer it goes on, the more the people turn into objects, like really harp on it over and over to the p

Hadestown film?  Aug 12 2020, 01:04:46 PM

I think it would be be best filmed onstage than done as a full blown onset movie

Tony Awards Set Question  Jul 1 2020, 12:40:36 PM

I've wondered this also

for example

1988 awards was held at the Minskoff, yet phanrom was there, candelabra and all.

the clip starts with the boat onstage and ALL the candles rise up, they even have the black wings/legs from the show, which makes me wonder, was this done as a split presentation, where the boat part was filmed earlier at the majestic for the broadcast and inserted in, then Music of the Night performed live at the minskoff? because at the end

Opinion on cats  Jun 11 2020, 02:22:41 PM

I love the show, but like alot of my other favourite shows, i have more of a sentimental connection to it, so i love it on that level rather that because of what the show is about.

Was my second cast recording and second ALW show recording so i did get into the music, then I bought a london brochure and was fascinated with the character makeup and wig design. Only saw the original London version and the Broadway revival, i regret not seeing the original brodway production with the whol

Jekyll & Hyde 1995 Tour vs. Broadway Production  Jun 2 2020, 11:25:45 AM

Can someone that saw the tour go into detail on the set differences?

Also from the little I saw, the German/Austrian set design looked somewhat interesting also.

West End Prince of Egypt  May 22 2020, 12:05:34 PM

Just listened to the CD

i LOVE the movie soundtrack, but these new songs, what was he thinking, they all sound the same, they all have the same tempo, usually it is hard to warm up to 'new songs' in a movie musical but these were just dreadful.

Frozen on Broadway - Where did they go wrong?  May 22 2020, 12:03:55 PM

This is my 2 cents after seeing it back in January.

It felt sterile and cold (and not because of the snow) it just felt at one time like a theme park show, yet shallow. Perhaps the effects could have been better although I loved the projections.

There is something about Lion King I love, the aesthetic and all that makes you feel like you are watching something special (faults asside), with Frozen I felt like I was almost watching a film, there was a strange disconn

Phantom Post-COVID  Mar 23 2020, 11:18:45 AM

The other thing to consider, with a show like Phantom, it might be a rusk for them to do anything drastic like changing things to projections (led screens) as that would be a HUGE expense for a show that basically has been running forever and already has working sets, so in the long run it wont reduce running costs but rather add more expense.

But on the other hand i am sure CamMac is itching to change up things so he wont have to continue with what i am sure are hefty royalties to Mar

Phantom Post-COVID  Mar 23 2020, 08:13:08 AM

One of the updates they could look into surely is new lighting. not to change the look of the piece, but to update it to cost efficient lights as I believe Phantom is one of the only shows on Broadway with the original lights still going, it must cost them alot monthly.

What i do dread however is them thinking maybe of moving to a smaller house now that they have 2 prototypes of the "brilliant original' that have been redesigned for smaller houses. I hope it does

Love Never Dies to broadway 2021?  Mar 5 2020, 11:30:20 AM

It really needs an intimate feeling house with alot of head space above the stage to keep the original Aussie design and not the tour version, not many of those houses come up to often, Shubert would be a good example, while Broadhurst would be a tight fit for the whole tower and bridge thing, St. James would be way too massive to fill.

Love Never Dies to broadway 2021?  Mar 5 2020, 07:24:04 AM

I'd go see it also, would be great if they could get it into a theatre close to the Majestic (like the Broadhurst). I think if they want to spend $$$ on it then they should, and let the tourists decide if it will last or not.

West End Prince of Egypt  Mar 5 2020, 07:21:31 AM

regarding the set coming out into the audience, there was a timelapse load in video on youtube and you can kinda see what they mean

its not the set so much as it is the lighting. the whole back piece seems to be a vid screen (not projections) and coming off the stage either side are these vertical 'strings' that are apparently LED (think of a times sq billboard, but made up of vertical strings with spaces between) so when they light up it carries the effect out in

Phantom Tour Question  Mar 2 2020, 11:55:57 AM

and again to beat a somewhat un-discussed dead horse, I would love to also see what makeup design they will use as they did change the Broadway makeup recently and because of this new 'ban' on photos, it does not get discussed.

I still have been unable to find out if the makeup in London has been changed as well because from what I understand, the Broadway prosthetics are shipped in from London.

Phantom Tour Question  Mar 2 2020, 11:53:29 AM

obviously there are difference, but this curtain is the one they are using (the last UK/US tour was similar but red)

I am not hating this, as it retains most of the feel and design essence of what Maria did. Still waiting for photos of the actual scenes to comment more. I don't quite get the purpose of having a broken looking proscenium that stays broken looking throughout the show.

With the world tour all was explained before regarding the changes (load in and transport eas

Phantom Tour Question  Mar 2 2020, 07:36:21 AM

apparently, for the moment, they are using the previous UK tour chandelier as the new one (that is supposed to look more like the original) is not yet ready.

Frozen Broadway Updated  Feb 20 2020, 03:08:22 PM

While i get what you are saying about the lack of staircase, when you think about it, Elsa's castle is like only used what, twice in the whole show as a setting (end of act 1 and once in act 2).

Plus I think the freezing of the theatre was a good wow moment.

Frozen Broadway Updated  Feb 20 2020, 07:49:21 AM

hmm, well not here at all, only well in monster with the ice spikes.

Frozen Broadway Updated  Feb 19 2020, 01:41:01 PM

I still cant decide if I liked the show or not. Usually I go in for technical wizardry in shows but this and Aladdin just felt sterile to me.

I do however like to see how far projections and video screens have come, I would have never known the back wall was a video screen if i didn't have binoculars, and freezing the theatre was a nice touch towards the end.

I did however question the turntable, unless I remembered wrong, I can only recall it being used twice the whole

MCP Joseph - Vosk, Espinosa & Newell  Feb 19 2020, 01:34:04 PM
