Vanity Fair First Look at WEST SIDE STORY film  Mar 17 2020, 08:46:10 AM
Just to clarify, I didn't mean this looked like a modern adaptation like the revival, I meant that the period look looked too modern. Like modern people pretending to look like they're from the 50's. It looks effortful. It doesn't look authentic.

It looks like one of the live musicals. I haven't been a fan of Spielberg's recent work and I find Ansel to be an absolutely awful actor, so my expectations for this could not be lower.

Couldn't they have adapted a musical that did

Still not convinced we need a remake. Especially not one with Elgort.

Modern? Nope.

It looks the exact opposite of modern, actually.

It's period look feels forced to me.  It doesn't feel natural.

Also, I agree above.  The stills look digital.  They should've opted for film to give it a more authentically period look.

They should combine the the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons into one Tony Award ceremony and just open up all the categories to at least one extra nominee or something.

Caught this again last night after taking the LSD they handed out in the lobby. Can't remember much except for Patti and Bernadette making out in the Stonewall restroom. I woke up in Harlem around 6am, sharing a tent with a homeless man. My playbill got crinkled :/

I've been listening to the audio b**tleg of the first preview from last night and the tuba solo in the finale is completely unnecessary.

One of the greatest musicals ever written.

Patti frequently exhumes her hatchets.

I love this messy Queen.

I wonder how Alice ripley or Laura bell bundy would be as miss von Tussel. I wanted back years ago for them to cast Shawn mendes or harry styles in that hairspray live broadcast. I know it would never happen but timothee chalamet as link. I’d love to have J

Cuomo Snubs Broadway  Apr 30 2020, 01:44:03 AM
I think that article is a whole lot of nothing. Still doesn't change the fact that Cuomo has done a terrible job at dealing with this virus while putting up the front that he's done well. He "closed" the city down way too late and vastly underestimated the effect that this would have on New York. New York, the center of the world, should've been the first city to go on a serious lock down. It took him weeks to even shut playgrounds down.

Everything he's done well now is making up for th

Reopening New York State  Apr 28 2020, 09:03:21 PM
I don't think NYC will open till at least July. Mainly because of public transport. You can make the workplace as safe as possible, but it'll be impossible to enforce anything on the Subway.

The answer to the financial insecurity in this country is not to prematurely open it back up, but rather to adapt some sort of UBI, put a pause on ALL rent and mortgage payments, and make sure New Yorkers are able to get their unemployment.

The King and I new adaptation  Apr 2 2020, 05:07:03 PM
The last good movie musical I saw was Chicago. I've decided that directors just don't know how to make movie musicals anymore. They always seem to apologize for making a musical. In summary, I'm not interested in a movie adaption of any musical. I'd rather just watch it onstage.
Adaptations You Would Like To See?  Mar 30 2020, 08:51:10 PM
Portrait of a Lady on Fire and JoJo Rabbit would both make great musicals.
WHEN WILL THEY ANNOUNCE  Mar 26 2020, 04:23:06 PM

Why are you on a Broadway message board?

The OP has a point.  I don't think producers are being entirely transparent.  This is likely to last into the summer and they should stop selling tickets and cancel indefinitely.  They're not going to be open by April 12t

Donna Murphy as George in Sunday in the Park  Mar 25 2020, 12:37:39 AM
Never had a hard time hearing Donna. She's a phenomenal performer. Her presence is INCREDIBLE and her performance as Fosca is one of the greatest musical theater performances of all time.

Carolee? That's a shame.  Her Adams was great in the all female concert of this a while back.  Surprised that we still haven't heard of ANY casting for this.

First of all, don't make fun of people on meds. Don't you know many Broadway performers take prescribed medication?

Second, these aren't tragedies. These are "
