Handicap ticket ?  Apr 25 2024, 02:09:00 PM

Wick3 said: "Before pandemic, I accompanied my grandmother to a Broadway show (Harry Potter). A few days before the show, I recall receiving a phone call from the theater asking if there's anything special needed to be done with the seat (some seats are removable or can be changed due to the needs of the person with disability.)

And no, you are not a douchbag for asking for a handicap seat.

This has also been my experience with both the Shubert and Ne

Not at all! Like TaffyDavenport said, just make sure that they're transfer seats and not an empty space for a wheelchair. The accessible seats/transfer seats are designed for people with any kind of mobility issues as I understand it, while the non-seat spac

Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler to star in ROMEO & JULIET on Broadway?  Apr 15 2024, 11:03:38 PM

This was my biggest reason for yawning when I saw the rumor pop up. Nothing so far makes me want to pay what will undoubtedly be astronomical prices.

Total respect for anyone looking forward to it, but I just do *not* get her appeal.

I had to dash right after my performance--what was the sheet music they signed, or was it not any specific number?

Moulin Rouge Christmas Gift Scam  Dec 17 2023, 05:53:22 PM

Call_me_jorge said: "Why did the producers even announce they are donating money? It just seems performative."

One imagines that's the point, honestly. "See, we're not stingy, we're being generous!" etc etc.

Very poor behavior by the producers. The show sells, they can afford to throw the cast and crew a little extra.

Also, I’d throw in shows like Forever Plaid and Forbidden Broadway.

Lord, this reminded me how much I miss Forbidden Broadway's regular skewering of the industry.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that indicates SRO (standing room) tickets.

Umegei/Menier Pacific Overtures Question  Sep 30 2023, 12:33:48 AM

Wayman_Wong said: "I love ''Pacific Overtures''! I saw the sublime original 1976 Broadway cast, the 1984 version at York Theatre, Amon Miyamoto's striking 2003 staging from Japan (at Lincoln Center) and the 2004 Roundabout revival, based on it.

John Doyle's 2017 Off-Broadway revival had a wonderful cast, but I hated how he cut it down to one-act and dropped one of my favorite Sondheim songs, ''Chrysanthemum Tea.''

Umegei/Menier Pacific Overtures Question  Sep 28 2023, 11:39:42 PM

Thank you both very much! Sorry to hear it was cut but I am looking forward to seeing and hearing more about the production when it opens in London!

Umegei/Menier Pacific Overtures Question  Sep 28 2023, 12:40:59 PM

I had a quick question for the boards, if anyone has been following the Umegei production of Sondheim's Pacific Overtures that is supposed to transfer to the Menier Chocolate Factory in London. Does anyone know if this production included the number "Chrysanthemum Tea"?

I know that typically it is included, but it was excised for the Classic Stage revival in 2017, and I haven't been able to find information one way or the other for this production.<

Broadway flea market 2023 collectors unite!!  Sep 26 2023, 11:57:05 PM

northlandfan said: "Looking at the weather forecast, it looks like it’s going to be great weather the weekend of the flea market. By the way, does anybody know if the Broadway actors still sign playbills after the show or do they just wave and quickly leave. I do collect signed, playbills and wondering if I should stage door or just donate and get a copy at one of the flea market tables."

It varies by show and by actor, even more than it did before the pandemic

She did fall and then...they used the phrase 'fainted.' But she was seen not long after having dinner at a restaurant nearby. So she seems to have recovered well...but yeah...90 and a fall could be terrifying. But she's managed to come back from worse. A real f-ing trouper who will stop when she wants to.

Sounds like a condition

Artificial Intelligence in the Theatre  Aug 24 2023, 11:51:47 PM

I don't think it's a "never," but I do think it will be quite some time before it's being done to any noticeable degree in live theatre. And if the copyright ruling holds, there's no way anyone would risk it unless the production is explicitly designed to be open-source/"theatre for the people"--which is a gimmick I think would only work the first time it's tried and not necessarily afterwards.

MOULIN ROUGE! Broadway Casting Thread  Aug 17 2023, 10:21:34 PM

Prefacing this with saying I have zero inside information, but I'd bet money that Aaron would be back at some point again. He's made clear he loves the show and would always jump in if asked (and indeed did for one night when there was an emergency during Derek's 2nd run in the show). If Ashley came back too, that'd be a dream reunion!

Oof. Not a total pan from Jesse Green, but that line's gotta smart.

Taylor Swift Headed to BROADWAY?  Aug 6 2023, 12:04:41 AM

I want to personally thank you for the mental image of Taylor Swift in Scandalous! LOLlaugh
