NEW YORK, NEW YORK On Broadway - P/reviews & News Thread  Apr 19 2023, 12:05:31 PM

I went into the St. James Theatre wanting to love this and I can say I loved the performances by the two leads the most.  The dancing was wonderful, the tap scene was great, the Cuban story was touching, …but the one thing that bothered me the most was the violinist. The guy looks like he took some lessons but unfortunately the producers missed a mark here. There’s an opportunity to lift up a real musician, (in a story about MUSIC), they chose to lipsynch and have the poor g

You misapprehend "necessary." What the CDC (and science) have said is that the mask mandate is notepidemiologicallynecessary. In other words, that the health infrastructure is not challenged by the remaining cases. But that's not the calculus that applies to the mask mand

THE MUSIC MAN Previews  Jan 7 2022, 11:11:48 AM

I was there last night and I enjoyed the show! I even got teary eyed at the end.

Highlights for me include:  The opening train scene, the library dance scene, the big dance finale, and several other scenes with just Hugh and Sutton because I really liked their chemistry, they're both such great talented actors!

I sat far right Orch row Q just under the overhang and it wasn't a big deal, the tickets were only $199 when I bought them a few weeks ago,... there we

Company Previews Thread  Dec 2 2021, 11:52:56 AM

Patti was great, yes, but the highlight of the night, for me, was the male ensemble. Top highlights for me were "You could drive a person crazy", "Another hundred people", and "Getting married today".  ... and just getting to experience Patti sing "Ladies who lunch" and the multiple diva moments for her in the play were great!

I'd love to see this with the understudy for Bobby because I didn't love Katrina in this, unfortunate

The Greatest Showman Broadway  Mar 1 2021, 09:07:50 PM

it would be better as a touring arena show - think about a theatre in the round, three-ring-circus feeling, trapeze artists, with Hugh Jackman on the tour it would be hit, no?

What's the 1st show you're planning to see when the quarantine is over?  Apr 15 2020, 04:51:47 PM

Whatever I can get cheap rush tickets to with friends: Wicked, Moulin Rouge, Mean Girls, WSS, Company, SIX, Girl from the North Country, Beetlejuice...

New Disney MTI Jr/Kids Shows  Jul 17 2019, 07:28:54 PM

Surprised no one has thought of Pocahontas Jr yet. The  Native American curriculum in schools would tie in nicely with that show.

Has performing a number on the Tony telecast ever REALLY saved a struggling show?  Apr 4 2018, 12:34:14 PM

Any others?

I heard that because of the mishap at the TONYs for Rock of Ages they saw sales bumps.

FROZEN Previews  Mar 16 2018, 10:54:10 AM
When I saw it I thought the finale was fine. The new harmonies in Let it Go at the end surprised me and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I think it was a perfect way to end it.

What was the audience response at the end of the first act and again at the end of the performance? Was it wild applause, standing ovation, etc. or more just polite applause? Having seen the performances, do you think either Patti or Caissie has a shot at a Tony nom? Does one stand out over the other?

Thanks!
"

WILD applause.  Heads exploding.   expectations were exceeded?&n

I loved Patti as Ana!!!!!!!!!! In my humble opinion, she earned a Tony nomination.
I think Olaf is weird and I find it weird that he isn’t really tap dancing on stage, but the track he sings along to has tapping in it.

I loved the weird hidden people and I really enjoyed the naked sauna people.

The special effects blew me away, as did everyone’s singing/vocal ability.
I loved: the opening, the song Elsa sings when she’s crowned queen, and the snow storm scene.  I really think kids will be singing the new songs for years to come.
We laughed, cried, laughed again and cried again. It was a really fun and exciting night and I hope the show runs for a while.

... can they start working on Moana now? :::

I remember getting in line at 7AM for tickets to an evening performance of Color Purple the day I saw FunHome’s Matinee. I just remember feeling so sad and depressed after leaving the theatre that day because of the story- which is probably exactly how you’re supposed to feel, idk. Then that same night, after seeing C

Tony Award - Best Musical  Feb 17 2018, 09:43:05 AM

I disliked Fun Home and slept through ONCE. Both of those years there were much better shows and I think this year will be the same situation with TBV.

With Frozen and Mean Girls being assembled by the best of the best, how are we so sure that TBV is a lock for TONYs?

Sara Bareilles to Play Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar Live! in Concert  Feb 2 2018, 10:41:48 AM

I'm a fan of Luis Fonsi and had his greatest hits album on constant rotation when I was in college 10 years ago... pre-Despacito.  That being said I agree with you, that he is a weird choice for this.

I guess they just want ratings? or a new audience?

I still wish Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert were involved in this production somehow.

GeorgeandDot said: "Overall, this really is a phenomenal show with some phenomenal performances and some phenomenal direction."

I saw this production and LOVED IT!  I went in without any expectations and loved the magic of it all.

All I have to say is that the audience for this can't see it because the seats are too expensive.

Home For The Holidays on Broadway  Nov 21 2017, 12:51:36 PM

Saw this last night and wanted to sleep on it before i posted my thoughts. Here goes- Let's just say there are daily cabarets downtown at The Duplex, and at Don't Tell Mama, and even at Marie's Crisis that provide the same experience as Home for the Holidays usually for the price of 2 drinks.

The more I think about it, the more I am sure you will have an amazing time just 22 blocks north of this at THE BEACON THEATER for Mariah Carey's Christma
