Kevin's Minnesota Theatre Adventures - Suzan-Lori Parks' SALLY & TOM, SIX on tour  Feb 5 2024, 11:12:46 PM

Having relocated to the Twin Cities area recently, I grabbed a ticket to 'ART' at the Guthrie last month.  I haven't seen any other productions to compare but it was fine.  I suspect I might have enjoyed it more with the West End cast, or at least some of the interactions might have been more compelling through that cultural lens.  The actor playing Yvan was distractingly similar in voice and affect to Sean Hayes.

ONCE UPON A ONE MORE TIME To Close September 3, 2023  Aug 22 2023, 10:55:41 PM

I hope the Tony voters got a chance to see and won't forget Guarini and maybe Simard.  If this show had opened in April, good chance there would have been nominations.

I also hope to see (hear) Guarini onstage again soon.  He's been posting dressing room "talks" and tonight he did a stunning acapella version of Nature Boy from Moulin Rouge, sung while putting on his stage makeup.

ONCE UPON A ONE MORE TIME Broadway Reviews  Jul 17 2023, 11:10:25 PM

According to their social media, two performances tomorrow:  Circus on GMA, Crazy on GMA3.  Circus doesn't feature Cinderella.  I don't recall if she comes in at some point in Crazy?

Also interesting is a podcast Justin G. does where his non-theater, non-actor co-host describes her candid reactions to the changes the show made, including how she thought they made it worse with some earlier changes in the previews and then she thought they fixed the major issues by opening night, especially by adding the new musical number for Prince Charming in the second act to keep the energy up.

ONCE UPON A ONE MORE TIME Broadway Reviews  Jun 25 2023, 02:04:56 PM

It's interesting how many people posting about the show on IG, Twitter, etc., say it's their first Broadway show. I haven't followed MJ but assume something similar there?  One difference perhaps for OUAOMT is it would be easy to branch out and see more shows given there are currently two other shows with similar music.

The NY Theater Review piece captures the difference between the critics I think:

"But like I said, if you're willing to accept Once Upon a One More Time as a kind of period piece in which feminism is new, you'll have a fantastic time, because there is still plenty to unequivocally love.

The book is not hard to follow unless you resist following it.

Thanks for the gift link--Isherwood quibbles a couple of things but clearly on balance is positive.

Lots of interesting details in this NYT article:  A Britney Spears Jukebox Musical Hopes for #SeeBritney Energy including that the original deal had payments to Spear's father and Larry Rudolph but after the pandemic scuttled the Chicago run, the current deal was negotiated in 2022 and only Spears herself receives any compensation.  There are more details in this article than in the prior article on this subject.

Also, her spokesperson told the Times that Britney provided some notes on the choreography to the Madrids after seeing the videos, so she's clearly engaged with it even if not publicly so far.

Musical Performances on the 2023 Tony Awards  Jun 12 2023, 10:06:49 AM

I haven't seen KA and had no difficulty following what was going on with Anagram.  I thought it did a good job for the uninitiated (who are capable of paying attention) of setting up what the show is about.

I didn't think Shucked did a good job of selling itself to potential ticket buyers.  It tried to cram too much into too short time.  It's also interesting that that medley had to be written (scripted) for

Correction to what I posted above--Amy Hillner Larsen is taking over for Ryann Redmond "for a few months."  Ryah Nixon would be taking over Amy's track as Goldilocks, then.

If anyone goes tonight or this week, would be very curious to hear what new number has been added.  Maybe they have heard the critique that the second act drags with fewer musical numbers?

edited thanks to quizking101's helpful catching my repeated error in conflating Ryann

Ryah Nixon posted that she is joining the cast starting today, presumably replacing Ryann Reynolds who is undergoing surgery for her foot/leg injury.  I believe that brings the total Broadway debuts among the cast to 15.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/21/23  May 23 2023, 11:17:45 PM

Based on the 73% capacity of OUAOMT, about 1300 seats were filled per show

Also for some reason, OUAOMT isn't selling the far right and left side seats, so the percent of offered seats sold is higher than 73%.  They are going to need a higher profile campaign, though, because right now, tickets are being sold to other shows on the strength of their being Tony nominees (most people don't realize OAUOMT opened too late to qualify) and later, they'll be up agains

This was my third of three shows this trip and by far the most wonderful.  Still smiling.  Such a skilled cast even though some were making their debuts with this play.  Loved the way they incorporated the organic audience responses--including tonight a seredepitious sneeze and a perfectly timed "bless you" from Juicy.  Got a ticket through TDF that put me in the

I should clarify the playbill doesn't list any changed songs.  I wracking my brain but can't come up with anything.  I'm only a passing fan and I'm guessing it wasn't one of her hits?  If I'm representative of the audience, the change might not stick?

    SHUCKED On Broadway - P/reviews & News Thread  May 20 2023, 06:01:55 PM

Well, the audience today sure loved this show.  There was a young woman near me who kept saying, "I love this!" at various points in the show.  On the way out, she was commenting that all she knew about the show was that it was about corn and "it sure delivered" on that.  For me, though, I was amused but found myself not laughing out loud anywhere near as much as I did when I saw its prior incarnation in Dallas.  If anyone is curious about how the two s

Saw it tonight and there was no one singing in my area until the end when the cast was dancing in the aisle and encouraging it.  I enjoyed the show.  I rate shows/movies by the number of times I check my watch and this was a zero-check show. IOW, it was a fun night at the theater.

Unlike others, I didn't think the second act dragged except
