Doubt p/reviews  Apr 16 2024, 09:30:22 PM

Adding my voice late in the run!

Thought this was a very thought-provoking piece, with Amy's performance truly a highlight. I'm not familiar with the piece at all going in, however I felt Schreiber could have done more with his Flynn. He did amazing in some parts and not so amazing in others. Especially in the courtyard scene, he didn't feel as convincing as I feel he could've been. Maybe it was deliberate, not sure. Bernstine did well for her moment, but I a

THE GREAT GATSBY Broadway Previews  Apr 16 2024, 12:36:24 AM

Ended up coming here for round two after seeing it off broadway on a student ticket! First of all, thank you to the box office for that wonderful seat: front orchestra row E for $25 at 4 pm is highway robbery for a show these days!

The changes to the first song didn't sit well with me, but honestly I forgot about them due to how stellar act two was. "Made to Last" was as stressful as I remember it being, "For Her" and its reprise are worth the $25 alone, and Sam

Just a thank you  Apr 13 2024, 02:24:25 AM

Great to see some positivity here! Your name is totally one of the ones recognize, and your takes are always great from what I remember.

This board is really brilliant for moving shows onto my radar (or the opposite, but..) when they deserve the recognition! One of these days it would be so fun to have a swap meet or mass gathering of some kind. A group show viewing? In the end we are all here to share our love of Broadway, and this is the one site where the opinions feel "real&qu

I thought Pill was fine, I could not figure out what age her character was supposed to be, at times she seemed like a young teen, others mid twenties, and Anika Noni Rose, unfortunately, was the weakest of the night. Her character did not earn her moments and her performance didn’t leave much of an impact. For what should have felt like a pivotal character,

UNCLE VANYA Previews  Apr 10 2024, 12:01:40 AM

Went to see Uncle Vanya on a student ticket tonight (I'd like to give HUGE thumbs up for that box office operator who gave me row O seat 300's, that's the best view I've ever had on a student rush!) and I'm completely unfamiliar with Chekov but certainly enjoyed it. Sonya's actress was acting her HEART out on that stage, one of the best play performances I've seen this season outside of Appropriate. Carell does a great job of portraying a bitter Vanya, and com

I was here tonight! I think the runtime was great, and McAdams is a brilliant actress. I didn't understand the ending at all,

So we get to see Mary Jane center stage with this Buddhist religious leader (the title escapes me). She claims

STEREOPHONIC Previews  Apr 3 2024, 04:16:40 PM

I'm so late but I think after having a good night rest to go over it in my head, I really enjoyed it. I feel like the first 30-40 minutes dragged, but after that it was very enjoyable. I was so invested in the relationships between all of the characters, and I found Peter's scene towards the end to be especially impactful and really tied up a lot of his relationships with others. Eli Gelb was Glover really stood out to me- he had great timing, and amazing expressions, and turned out t

Have you ever seen a musical on Broadway that didn't get a standing ovation?  Mar 23 2024, 11:28:46 PM

I don't think there was a standing ovation for "Walking with Ghosts" the night I saw it. So many people were asleep, it was probably a comp night because even I had a comp, and it was a terrible and meandering show. I don't even remember the ONE MAN who was the main speaker's name. I think he was Irish and talking about his family but other than that it was so forgettable.

Bring Ryan Gosling to Broadway now!!  Mar 11 2024, 11:57:18 AM

Just add him to Othello with Washington and Gyllenhal so that they can break house records night after night. That's the only way it should be done, while the hype AND the money are there. (sarcasm)

I love your belief is Playwrights Horizon’s to do the right thing, but they didn’t. I’m a student who lost their $10-20 ticket due to the Teeth cancellations and was not automatically refunded- I had to request a refund or list a few dates I&rs

Rob Madge's MY SON'S A QUEER... not at the Lyceum February 2024  Feb 7 2024, 10:49:38 PM

They should do what "Ain't No Mo" did and host one of those 1 day-only $20 rushes, I know they already did the lottery but if Madge really wants their broadway debut...

Also, maybe they (Madge) should've considered mounting this as a week-long thing at another theater. Madge isn't a name in the United States, I've only ever heard of their work in the context of this dead on arrival (allegedly) show.

Show-Score Discontinuing Member Nights  Feb 2 2024, 01:06:11 AM

I hope they just integrate Show-Score ratings into the TodayTix app, because I don't see any reason to review or use Show-score otherwise. The last show I saw as a member night was terrible honestly so maybe this is a blessing. I left at intermission because it was barely fit as a school production, nevermind an Off-Broadway production. TodayTix is annoying to use too so maybe they're a good pair or whatever.

Fake Theatre Kids  Dec 6 2023, 07:39:36 PM

Okay, now that you've identified the "issue," what can you do to solve it? Nothing? Become a teacher? This is so mean-spirited, new theater people are in their prime to be exposed to "high art" shows like Sondheim, recent Tony winners (Band's Visit, Akimbo), and in general we need to foster and nurture their love for theater instead of shame it. Hell, I started as a person who only knew Wicked, Hansen, and Be More Chill. Then I listened to Bare, Falsettos, and Come

Hell's Kitchen lotto and rush  Nov 22 2023, 02:37:20 AM

I'm going to second the in person lottery! I went on a  Tuesday night a few weeks ago, and my number didn't get called. Everybody did get a seat, however, because in the end, the final few of us formed an alliance to all order 2 tickets (as most of us wanted singles) and pay each other back. It was really sweet, and we all got amazing seats together and somebody to talk to during the show. It's an amazing and heartfelt show so I'd suggest going for the in person lottery w

Coming to NYC next weekend tips/advice for shows appreciated.  Nov 17 2023, 01:29:05 AM

Alright, I've got a few pointers for shows I'm familiar with/seen

I'd prioritize the following:
1. Kimberly Akimbo - It's so charming and I genuinely enjoyed it. Great show overall.
1.5. Sweeney Todd - I almost forgot this one! Not sure which cast is there now, but it's a wonderfully staged production and really enjoyable
2. Merrily - If you can get a ticket, and you enjoyed the cast recording, you'll be sure to enjoy the show. It's so h

Yes! I rushed yesterday, got Orchestra K 20, amazing seat and by no means partial view. I'd wish for left orchestra though if I went again, not right.

I believe so? Last night was Annaleigh Ashford, which was a real treat. She also exited and waved at stagedoor after.<

Broadway flea market 2023 collectors unite!!  Oct 1 2023, 11:58:36 PM

I agree with the person who said it felt like a meh year with a lot of outdated tables. Dear Evan Hansen had a table and a ton left at the end of the day (which got transferred to Dancers Over 40), I was hunting mostly for Bad Cinderella (barely anything, just a lipstick and bracelet that sold out before I even got there), and Parade (the signed name plaques were a bit overpriced in my opinion at curtain call, same with the display photos). I ended up with so much DEH stuff (arena stage windo

I'm sure that DEAR EVAN HANSEN has tons of stuff leftover from Broadway, the just closed

Barbie: the musical. Will it ever happen?  Jul 28 2023, 10:37:05 AM

I can get behind this as long as it's not a jukebox musical. Movie musicals get audiences into seats, but they do not need to be a direct rip of the movie. Give us a theater experience instead of a cover concert! I haven't seen BTTF yet, but a similar way to how that takes the source and adds songs would be interesting.
