NY City Center Encores 2024 season: ONCE UPON A MATTRESS with Sutton Foster (adapted by Amy Sherman-Palladino), JELLY'S LAST JAM, and TITANIC  May 5 2024, 10:06:40 PM

chrishuyen said: "I don't think I saw an announcement, but on the City Center website, it looks like Conrad Ricamora has been replaced with Jose Llana, I'm guessing due to Oh Mary! transferring(but it'salso just funny)"

I actually spoke to Conrad today (since I just learned this myself). He was bummed about backing out, but there was unfortunately too much overlap with the show and also tech for Oh, Mary (which opens three days after Titanic closes)

Where were your RUSH seats for these shows (and would you advise for or against them)?  May 5 2024, 01:58:39 PM

DebraR said: "My daughter is 23, would that mean we would rush in person for Mary Jane & Mother Play?"

The rush for Mary Jane is either digital (for all) or in-person for students. If she has a student ID and is buying the tickets, then it’s shouldn’t be an issue. For 30 under 35, you can buy 2 tickets and the purchaser’s guest can be any age.

For Mother Play, their student rush and 30 under 30 are STRICT and they will verify that guest h

LEMPICKA closing May 19  May 4 2024, 05:56:07 PM

I was also there this afternoon and the show has grown on me. Not that it will supplant any other show as my favorite, but I just take it for what it is - history with a heavy dollop of (unintentional and intentional) camp.

I saw LuPone and took a brief picture with her. She was nice and I was afraid to approach her initially because I try to always be so mindful of boundaries. Thankfully, it didn’t result in her swiping my cell phone 😂

Recent stage door experiences at Enemy of the People?  May 4 2024, 05:53:15 PM

When I went during previews, it was just as everyone described. The cast was warm and accommodating and the patrons were polite.

Part of it is that the staff likely dissuaded the SUCCESSION and SOPRANOS autograph hunters away by being clear and firm they wouldn’t get their stuff signed.

Considering the SD situation at the Circle is only ever a handful of people or a chaotic crap show, this was surprisingly chill.

LEMPICKA closing May 19  May 2 2024, 07:46:21 PM

It was ambitious in scope but ultimately too messy and unfocused to amount to a truly good biomusical.

One of my friends who diehard loved it was complaining about them closing when they had three Tony nominations and I had to explain to him that they don’t always amount to sales and also the show had no chance of winning any of the categories

Your omission of anything “Oh, Mary” is glaring.

HEART OF ROCK & ROLL - $69/$49 Flash Sale  May 2 2024, 05:19:41 PM

Fully agree. I feel like the were too proud to admit their advance was terrible and were just trying to bank on Gen X nostalgia from the jump.

Alex Edelman, Abe Jacob, Nikiya Mathis among winners of special Tony awards.  May 2 2024, 12:12:39 PM

I’m thrilled for Edelman. I personally would LOVE if the Tonys got Whoopi Goldberg to present him the award since she is clearly a fan of his work and they have history.

Check out this clip from THE VIEW to see what I’m referring to: https://youtu.be/63Lgjjs2_3Q?si=nybAVVUNK_phKOeF

HEART OF ROCK & ROLL - $69/$49 Flash Sale  May 2 2024, 10:32:26 AM

Apparently all non-premium tickets are $49-$69 through May 12, no code needed. I picked up seats in the front orchestra for a Saturday matinee.

Theatre "Influencers"  May 1 2024, 12:28:19 PM

I know a few (stressing “few”) legitimate theatre social media creators, but I truly don’t feel like they do anything more than preaching to the choir - they tend to focus on the shows they hype more than the pick-me crowd. The rest are all just a collective of bite-sized TikTok reviewers focused on getting clicks and attention.

Being someone who has been deeply involved as a theatre patron and having friends who are performers, I’ve had people suggest I do

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/28/24  Apr 30 2024, 12:40:23 PM

I’m wondering what’s the over/under on Stereophonic becoming an open-ended run? With 13 nominations and poised to take quite a few (yes, I’m aware they can only get a maximum of 10 due to doubling and tripling in the acting categories), this could take off like a rocket.

Heart of R&R makes me sad because it’s so fun, but it was definitely a bad timing situation. If it held off until the summer, it probably could’ve been less subject to a financial drub

Three nominations is definitely a lifeline for a few more weeks but, sadly, I think this just nailed HoR&R’s coffin shut and that’s a damn shame

Drama Desk Nominations ‘24  Apr 29 2024, 05:48:18 PM

Seeing the book nominations for HTDIO rankled me a bit mostly because I felt like the book was a weak point since it seemed like it was written by committee and never fully cohered beyond some cheap sentiment.

I actually got into an argument with someone who feels like the show is not fair game for criticism and to do so is ableist. I told them I understand the intentions were good, but whatever steps they took to make it as authentically correct as possible didn’t necessarily am

Drama Desk Nominations ‘24  Apr 29 2024, 01:04:04 PM

This is a weird collection of nominations but honestly the off-Broadway productions really showed out this year and put Broadway to shame.

Gun & Powder at Paper Mill  Apr 29 2024, 09:46:00 AM

Broadway Flash said: "I hope it does go to Broadway, but it will surely flop. The theatre was maybe half full? After Midnight at Paper Mill canceled the last week of performance due to illness, people exchanged their tickets for Beautiful, they had no interest in seeing Gun and Powder, which is a shame."

That is not true…at all. They may have canceled a performance or two, but I was there the final weekend and they modified the show to remove and combine
