Dee Hoty - I just found her website!  Sep 14 2009, 11:02:18 PM
Finally! This very talented and highly under-appreciated actress has a website.

http://www.deehoty.com/index.html

I have been a fan of Dee Hoty for years. I love her voice, and shows like City Of Angels, Will Roger's Follies, Follies and Mamma Mia are some of my favorite performances. Of course, I adore her on the "Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public" cast recording as well!

She was very gracious when I met her after WRF and MM, and I have never heard a discouraging word about her. Her site is great, with some unexpected candid photos alongside the show photos.

Check it out!

Sorry about that LizzieCurry! I know you particulary liked his performance, too.

Yeah, there was no WC in SF last year, or the year before, or the year before that. We got the premiere in 2004, a second showing in 2005 with Kate Baldwin, Graham Rowhat, Shannon O'Bryan and Mark Ledbetter and now this show refuses to return to SF for whatever reason.

There have been local productions since 2005 though.

re: Which Broadway performers have you seen in Law & Order?  Feb 11 2009, 02:12:34 PM
Two of my favorites have been on multiple times; Dee Hoty played the mother of a murder victim and in later episodes played a judge, and James Naughton has been on a couple of times.
re: Saturn Returns, White Christmas and Speed-the-Plow cast at the Drama League Luncheon  Dec 10 2008, 12:34:08 PM
tried to reply to your PM to say "you're welcome" but you don't accept PM's!

The thing is, I think the reviewer really did like the show! I don't get why he is trying to make up excuses why it shouldn't be enjoyable when all he as to say is..."I liked it!".

Thanks!

It would be nice if the reviewer could have gotten the director information correct for the show being reviewed. Walter Bobbie directs Irving Berlin's White Christmas. It would also be nice if the reviewer didn't feel quite so guilty about enjoying this show. You enjoyed it? GREAT, now stop making excuses as to why you think you shouldn't have.
re: HELP ! WHO KNOWS THE TITLE OF THIS BOOK ?  Dec 9 2008, 07:03:27 PM
try abebooks.com...they have a lot of out of print books for good prices.

it's a fantastic read...enjoy it when you get it!

re: HELP ! WHO KNOWS THE TITLE OF THIS BOOK ?  Dec 9 2008, 06:46:49 PM
Yes, I think you are looking for the book I have. Those chapters you mentioned are in my book, along with chapters about the score for City of Angels, the book for Will Rogers, interviews with Faith Prince while awaiting the Tony nominations, a fantastic chapter about Nick and Nora as seen through the eyes of understudy Kay McClelland, and much more.

I don't know if it was retitled and released as the book people are linking to above. It's very possible.

re: HELP ! WHO KNOWS THE TITLE OF THIS BOOK ?  Dec 9 2008, 06:06:17 PM
Why does my book by Marty Bell have the title "Broadway Stories - a Backstage Journey through Musical Theatre", in stead of the title everyone else is quoting here? It's the same book, published in 1993. That's the year I bought it, and it has a jacket with the photo mentioned above, the Guys and Dolls Finale.

Maybe the poster was referring to every review about the show in SF, LA, Boston, Detroit, Toronto and St. Paul.

You know, every review outside of the New York ones? Makes me think the NY critics were determined to have a different opinion of the show, no matter what.

re: Irving Berlin's WHITE CHRITMAS Reviews  Nov 24 2008, 04:55:39 PM
No Holiday spirit whatsoever?? It's a Christmas show!!

Sometimes I think people are enjoying the fact that they didn't enjoy this show a bit much.

I can only agree that this show has a paper thin plot and it's pretty predictable. Didn't bother me...I was thrilled to see old fashioned dancing for a change. I think it was originally geared as a regional show, which does make sense.

re: Irving Berlin's WHITE CHRITMAS Reviews  Nov 24 2008, 11:50:23 AM
I am curious, after reading these reviews...Did these critics expect some new age take on this story? I thought the advertisements and photographs of the show make it pretty clear that this is an Irving Berlin song and dance show; a show for the holiday season.

re: My thoughts on WHITE CHRISTMAS  Nov 21 2008, 03:41:05 PM
LOL! I love your reviews and photos! Ok, $34 is a LITTLE better...I usually am like you and don't see a show more than once. I ended up bringing different people each time I saw WC again, so that's my excuse. And I'm sticking to it.

LOL!!

Hi, my name is Justme and I've seen White Christmas 9 times.

(gasps from the group)

...and I am proud to admit it!

Have fun! I had to purchase SF Nutcracker tix this year to try and have something else to see as ONCE AGAIN, WC is not coming to a theatre near me this year.

re: My thoughts on WHITE CHRISTMAS  Nov 21 2008, 02:54:36 PM
Yeah I thought the same the first time I saw it. By the third trip, the scene made sense.

I thought, if they could have taken one element away...it would have to be the kid singing that numebr "Let me Sing". The kid was ok until that number.

re: My thoughts on WHITE CHRISTMAS  Nov 21 2008, 02:41:47 PM
Jaystarr! How could you forget details such as:

The Blue Skies number that closes Act one? The fantastic white tuxeoded dancers against the blue backdrop, utilizng canes in all in that number?

The I love a Piano number that opens the 2nd act with a glorious tap dance number that Judy and Phil lead by doing a tap challenge, dancing on a mini piano, and leading the chorus into a tap finale that stops that show?

The "Happy Holiday Number" from the beginning, with the Bob

here, here to having Morrow in the show again.

I am so jealous of you right now. Went on first night and going back already? Waaaahh. And what do we get out here in SF instead of WC? A "special" engagement of Phantom.

re: White Christmas on Broadway  Nov 18 2008, 12:14:56 AM
Well, considering that this show is neither Holiday Inn or White Christmas the movie, and considering that the original actors from the latter film are sadly unavailable to reprise their roles...

You may not want to go see it.

But seriously, I don't think everyone has to pay $140 to see this show. Check it out let us know what discounts you do find!

re: White Christmas on Broadway  Nov 17 2008, 11:57:52 PM
Hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but a huge bore and dreadfully dull? I just can't understand that assessment.

oh well, I am just glad I got to see it 9 times already. I am hoping it will return to the West Coast next holiday season.

re: White Christmas on Broadway  Nov 17 2008, 10:20:34 PM
LOL- WBAF, your review and excitement remind me of mine in Nov 2004, when I joined this site specifically to rave about this show.

I cannot understand anyone not enjoying those dance numbers! Those performers OWN the stage and this show is a great example of all the elements of song, dance, sets and costumes coming together and dazzling the audience.

And yes, please, can we stop attempting to compare this show to the 50's film? That's not what this show ever professed to want
