Helen Shaw takes down both BOM and Hamilton on Vulture Dec 24

I don’t think it’s a critique of Helen Shaw “being offended” by BOM. It’s rewatching the show in the Trump era jokes, and saying wow the jokes and satire we found amusing almost a decade ago don’t seem as funny. The laughter feel more that the expense of people and not with them. That’s a valid critique of an aging piece.
So no just because someone doesn’t find something as funny as they did years ago didn’t mean “they don’t get it,” it means that these long running shows aren’t frozen
The IN THE HEIGHTS Film Adaptation Thread Dec 14

Very exciting to see they are in fact making a film adaptation of the material rather than just putting the original show up on screen.
It's going to feel timely, and will remain timely for a long time.

Ok, well if that your best response all I can say is thank you for proving my point, and have a blessed rest of your Thursday.
Cool here’s my point. The moment a “good liberal” person starts saying “I don’t need any of these Black Lives Matters nonsense told to me, because that’s just preaching to the choir.”
That THAT is full boomer mentality. They admit they haven’t seen the show. All they know the one number is making a statement about police violence against POC, and somehow that is just liberals preaching to th
I was there last night, and I can say that I am not a huge Van Hove, but there is some interesting stuff happening in this production.
I hope that over the 2 months of previews that they smooth out a lot of the projections, because at the moment I found myself looking at the screens vs the actors, but the choreography is pretty great.
I am not going to comment on performances, because this was an open dress so I am sure that any of the technical pro

I thought it was pretty fabulous. I mean who thought that we would get a Disney princess movie that is about the dangers of colonialism, dealing with consequences of the patriarchy, and how we have to move into the future with our collective knowledge of the past while still dealing with who we are in present. Pretty brilliant stuff for a kids movie, and you could tell the adults in the room really appreciated Olaf’s “Everything will make sense when I’m older” song.

Oh this show absolutely can be the next Seussical and make back all its money in school productions, esp since there is a 90 min version.

Yeah they are averaging about 400 tickets a performance. Unless they have a really solid advance for the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas I don't see how they can keep going much longer.
The Golden Theater has 804 seats. If they had a single performance where not a single white person attended, it can still be a FULLY diverse audience.
There are a huge range of people and experiences where white is not the default.
Slave Play coming to Broadway in September! Sep 17

They are reaching out to a different audience. Lord forBID, that a play written by a black author and directed by a black director about race try to reach out to artist and students of color.
Get over it white people. You will be FINE.
HERCULES to Play the Public Theatre this summer!! Sep 2

It’s an absolutely fabulous Public Works production, but there is no way Disney is putting this production up as 4th show on Broadway.
Least we forget that the themes in The Music of the Night sound so similar to Puccini's La Fanciulla that Puccini's estate sued ALW, and settled out of court.
Also that and Into the Woods is just a better score, and got more votes.

32 shows opened this past season. There are 41 Broadway theaters.
We are going to be fine.

The Company revival would fit well beautifully into the Sondheim.
Unless Roundabout has some big plans up their sleeve for the space I don't see why not.
As for people being considered about the sudden availability of so many theaters. This isn't 1985. Broadway is still a billion dollar industry that is one the largest tourist attractions in the world. Things will come in.
