A Star Is Born review. WOW!  Oct 6 2018, 09:23:10 PM

Wildly uneven.

The music sounds like what Adele might have passed up or used as B-sides on her albums.

The fragility of Garland's character was lost.  Gaga was a steamroller.

Cooper was the standout.  He gave a brilliant performance.

It felt far too long.  Meaning, to me, it didn't have the moments it needed.

What happened to Linda Eders career?  Sep 14 2018, 01:41:17 AM

Eder sells out everywhere she performs.  That and what I think was probably a nice divorce settlement, allow her to take good care of her voice and pick & choose where she sings.

As others have already said, she still sings the songs, 25+ years later, with the same gusto.  Hits all the notes.  Holds all the notes.  It's still thrilling.  And no one has better mic technique.

Her 54 Below shows are great, but it's still wonderful to hear her wi

Sharon Catherine Brown as Pythio in Head Over Heels!  Sep 3 2018, 12:48:32 PM

FYI, your wording is offensive, perhaps better worded would have been:“how a non-trans woman (or cis-woman) would tackle this role,” since Peppermint is a woman.

Little Shop of Horrors  Sep 3 2018, 02:51:36 AM

The current production at Regents Park in London is truly the production that should transfer.

It's brilliant.  Unlike any other version of this show I've seen.

Bad Theater Behavior  Jul 18 2018, 05:39:07 PM

If you need a emotional support animal to get through a Broadway show, I suggest you just watch a bootleg and save people around you the trouble.

I'd say the same for airlines.  I'm tired of being on planes with untrained animals and their indulgent, selfish owners.

Hedwig News?  Jun 26 2018, 10:49:32 AM

The Zach-Scott in Austin included Hedwig in their upcoming season.

Director Dave Steakley has a good record of reimagining shows.  I'm intrigued.

Reflecting on Alex Newell not getting the Tony nom  May 7 2018, 10:43:36 PM

A strong vocal does not always make for a TONY.

He sings the living hell out of his moment, but it's a cardboard character.  It was never meat to be more than that, no matter how they dress it up.

This would be like if people questioned why Lynette Perry wasn't nominated for the OBC of Ragtime.

Moulin Rouge/Aaron Tveit  May 3 2018, 04:23:34 PM

Hearing him sing in this show makes my ears glaze.  There's no fire in his voice and frankly, I could do with a lot less musical theater vibrato and more straight tone.

Whatever happens, this show has a built-in audience.  It'll be critic-proof methinks.

When Someone Overflows Onto Your Seat & Ruins The Show?  Apr 26 2018, 05:34:00 PM

I'm trying to figure out the BMI of some of the posters in this thread.

I'm guessing we have some seriously unfit people here.

When Someone Overflows Onto Your Seat & Ruins The Show?  Apr 26 2018, 10:48:54 AM

The same thing happens on airplanes.  America has no self-control and everyone is now expected to accept obesity as the new normal.  It's not.

I'd have bolted and talked to the house manager about swapping for another performance.  A fat person should realize how tightly packed broadway houses are and pick their seat accordingly.  If you know you're going to spill into the seat next to you, go the Southwest Airlines route and buy two seats.

TV Alert - Sutton Foster  Apr 21 2018, 10:02:47 AM

If you've got tickets to one of her upcoming symphony dates, this is nearly the identical show you're going to see.  I saw her a couple of weeks ago in Dallas and aside from Groff and Roberts, that was her show.

Her encore was Gimme, Gimme.  And while the audience loved it, I felt she's now employing a wide variety of vocal tricks to get the song out.  It's not balls-out belting like it used to be.

Marilyn!- the Musical in Las Vegas  Apr 20 2018, 03:34:05 PM

Clearly, this crap will probably fly with the middle-America audience in Las Vegas

HELLO, DOLLY! Sets August 25 Closing Date; Bette Midler to Return July 17  Apr 20 2018, 03:26:50 PM

Clearly, Rudin is no Merrick.  Not even close.

MY FAIR LADY (2018) Previews  Apr 7 2018, 04:32:03 PM

You mean Ambrose is playing Eliza as a woman who's weighing her every word because she's trying very hard to improve her way of speaking?

No.  That's not what I mean.

BODYGUARD - The US Tour  Apr 7 2018, 04:29:31 PM

I'm still holding a grudge against Cox for her performance in Jekyll & Hyde.

The Bodyguard is a dumpster fire.

MY FAIR LADY (2018) Previews  Apr 5 2018, 02:02:32 AM

Saw it tonight.

I'm not totally sold on Ambrose, but the rest of the production is top-notch.  Paton, for me, steals the show, creating a perfectly natural, believable Higgins.  His singing is fine.  His acting is superb.  The cadence of his delivery was what truly made me enjoy watching him.  Ambrose could learn a thing or two from his quick cue pickups and ability to find comedic moments in the script.

She needs more time to grow comfo

JG  Mar 22 2018, 05:22:48 PM

I don't see an issue here.  He called crap, crap.  He spoke the truth.

Parrothead opinions on Broadway theater/critics is a nearly laughable thought.  The majority of the folks I've met who love JB are also those I have little to say to for being Trump supporters.

I hope this show closes quickly and the talented cast finds jobs in better, longer running shows.

Current Rent Tour  Mar 18 2018, 10:18:07 PM

Last time I saw it, it was a joke of a tour.  Very, very non-eq feeling.
