Ivo van Hove's approach to directing a production includes a long preview period. That's how he rolls."

So that doesn't quite support your earlier claim that WSS's delayed opening might hurt its awards prospects.
But anyway, the "naming other examples" thing wasn'tmy main point. My point

Honeymoon in Vegas had 2 months of previews, and sure, people didn't look well on that show, but that's just because it was bad. I don't recall the preview length being a source of animosity."

That’swhat I was assuming. I think all of this couldstart creating bad word of mouth in the industry, which won’t help them with critics and the Tonys. They better ensure this doesn’t turn into another Spider-Man situation.&quo

They’re asking about the style of the singing. You could still have the original orchestrations and sing it like you’re on American Idol. I would assume the score is sung traditionally, but someone who has seen it could let us know.

Not for lack of trying - the Bernstein estate will not allow new orchestrations. "
Good. Tunick and Alexander Gemingnani’s participation has been very encouraging for me, as I’m a l

I would love to see LuPone as Violet. She does boast about being a dramatically trained actress, and I think it would be a great fit for her to show off her chops.

I agree. The National Theatre recording is pretty much unlistenable. The lowered “Too Many Mornings” in which Staunton still struggled with is an embarrassment.

In the original film, the taunting still ends with Baby John being tossed on top of Anita before Doc breaks It up. It’s not as graphic as the 2009 staging, but I think it’s still meant to signify a sexual assault.
Hmm sounds like the traditional staging of the taunt. As I've mentioned, Laurents was the first to really intensify the scene in the 09 revival, cutting the live orchestration, and in early previews even having A-Rab fully drop his pants. The scene is always uncomfortable, and I will never forget Karen Olivo's blood-curdling screams. I remember some feeling that the 2008 staging was closer to an actual rape, rather than an attempt.
I remember when bringing the curtain down on Maria sobbing over Tony’s dead body was considered very bleak in the 2008 revival. Laurent’s controversy cut the procession of Tony’s body. I’m assuming the procession is cut in this new revival as well.

You'll ask who my source is. The streets are my source, lol. Just wait for the announcement.

I couldn't tell you what was cut. Maybe some Doc stuff? Maybe some Anita stuff? They both seemed like smaller parts to me. But it just felt streamlined, not like story points were being skipped over.
It doesn't feel like a too-short run time, partly because it was first preview and the pacing isn't there."
