MOULIN ROUGE Loading Into The Hirschfeld In May  Oct 25 2018, 07:42:12 PM

Happy to hear this news: it's the only show in my life that I saw twice in one day.  With that said, I'm a little surprised to hear that they won't be opening before the expiration of this season's Tony eligibility period.  I can't see any other musical taking the award for best new musical.

I wouldn't be too surprised if we get an earlier opening date after the reviews of King Kong come out...at least by early accounts of previews.

Moulin Rouge at Emerson Colonial Theatre Reviews  Aug 5 2018, 09:21:34 PM
Having - read and not responded to - most of the obnoxious comments related to Moulin Rouge on this page, I really wonder if most of the commentators actually saw it. Thank you Ben for agreeing with a position I had at first viewing: that this is truely something special. I’ve never in my life left a matinee performance only to run to the box office and buy house seats for the evening show.

This show will do incredibly well in New York and I can’t wait for the transfer! Congratulation

Lempicka at WTF  Jul 30 2018, 12:57:04 PM

Was in Williamstown for this and Seared over the weekend.  While I agree with much of the praise, this pieces needs work before it comes to NYC.  First and foremost: it's almost three hours long!  Many supportive characters have songs but, to be frank, they hardly advance the show.  I would start the trimming process there and see what's left to trim.

The principals were all very good, and while I am happy that Espinosa has finally found a good vehicle

Moulin Rouge Colonial Theatre Previews  Jul 14 2018, 05:28:42 PM
Just left the matinee. I’m simply shocked that there is almost no discussion about how this show is going to print money. Despite a few flaws, this show is the most enjoyable production I’ve seen in forever. This will kill in New York! Loved it so much, I bought seats for tonight’s performance as well!

Stunning.

Glenda Jackson to Return to Broadway in KING LEAR, Spring 2019  Jun 28 2018, 06:54:25 PM

I saw her perform the role at the Old Vic.  Not surprisingly, she was amazing. With that said, I thought Warner's production had a lot going for it but felt a little disjointed.

I never thought I'd see myself saying this, but I wonder how she might do in a more traditional production.  Jack O'Brian, maybe?  At his best, he was on fire.   More than a decade later, I still vividly remember his Henry IV.

With that said,

Could you please provide that number to me?

Moulin Rouge/Aaron Tveit  Jun 19 2018, 09:39:24 PM
I don’t do Facebook and their phone line is not working. Considering that they knew this was going to happen at least a week in advance, their efforts are truely amateur.

EllieRose2 said: "Wow. A 13 day delay and they are not extending a second time it seems. It was already announced the would be performing until August 19th. What a shame for those who booked hotels and plane tickets. God, I wonder what exactly happened with the construction."

Exactly: with AMTRAK hotel and tickets for JLP (which I would have skipped without MR), I'm in nearly a grand in and likely all nonrefundable (though I may sell/donate JLP tickets if I can d

What shows have you walked out on?  May 28 2018, 04:11:07 PM

VintageSnarker:  The new Tosca is an improvement from the last Bondy production...but not by much.  The only real benefit that it is welcoming enough to draw back world class talent who had avoided the opera at the Met since the departure of the Zeffirelli (which was my first Tosca, but not my favorite).

I'm much more excited about next season's offerings.  None of the new productions really get me excited, except the Sams

I’ll ride out a show no matter how bad it is. Even if my tickets were free. If I paid, phuck if I’m walking out.

Not a trust fund kid here, but I am established in my career after years of hard work: life is too short for **** productions and I see no obligation to stay.  This is particularly a problem for me as I love opera, but I am not going to sit throu

Breaking: New York City Center Gala Will Tribute A CHORUS LINE; LADY IN THE DARK, I MARRIED AN ANGEL Included in Encores! Line-Up  May 16 2018, 09:03:32 PM
Curious, are your tickets at the same location?

Lea Michele Defying Gravity  Apr 16 2018, 09:09:16 PM
Brody, that’s a little harsh. Let her rise or (likely) fail as she does. I will say, I thought this YouTube was incredibly mediocre. Saw the original Broadway cast, never need to see this again.

MOULIN ROUGE will be finally be a stage musical  Apr 5 2018, 12:06:18 AM
That Alex Timbers was attached had me at hello and I booked tickets the second they went on sale (along with tickets thereafter for Jagged Little Pill). This cast is next level ****. I saw the news when I was out with friends who don’t follow broadway....and it was VERY difficult to hide my excitement!

Gethsemane was fine. Alice Cooper was just BAD.

Kacey Musgraves as Jenna in Waitress? Yay or nay  Mar 30 2018, 08:50:55 AM

What an unknown: only appeared on Colbert last night, the Today Show this morning, and is opening up for one of the biggest bands in country and then one of the hottest pop artists alive.

Such a loser.

Edit:

I haven’t seen Waitress and have no desire to, but I’d jump at the chance to see Kacey on Broadway.

I’d like to plan a trip to Chicago to coincide with this and CSO’s Aida. I’m not familiar with this company but for those who are, do they generally extend productions? I think this has the makings of being a big hit artistically and financially so I would presume (read: hope) so.

Jerry Springer the Opera at The New Group  Mar 2 2018, 11:21:08 PM

I saw this musical 13 years ago and find it more prescient now.

I really can’t understand how anyone could find this piece dated: there is no need to know who Jerry Springer is to understand this piece. Northeastern (and Western) American ignorance completely blindsided many of us from the group of people who voted for Trump. I am not saying those people are specifically reflected in this musical, but their desires hopes and dreams are reflected in this oratori
