Laura Benanti to replace Lauren Ambrose in MY FAIR LADY  Oct 25 2018, 03:47:31 PM

Judging from the audio recording "out there," I am not really impressed with many of her choices, which I find jarring and lacking Ambrose's porous humanity that makes this production so special to me personally.

This should be getting all the raves there can possibly be!

THE FERRYMAN Reviews  Oct 21 2018, 11:07:01 PM
Sara Holdren is mixed leaning positive. And I agree with many of her points.
“ though The Ferryman contains many genuinely exhilarating moments, the show itself is like an enormous version of that goose: It works on you, and eventually you start to realize how it’s working on you, the levers it’s pulling, the pleasure centers it’s poking. And its Irishness—which walks a knife edge between robust authenticity and lyrical exaggeration—starts to slip towards blarney.”

Ticketmaster in tandem with scalpers  Sep 23 2018, 10:20:00 AM

Sorry I missed that. The Canadians do make public Ticketmaster’s handbook for “professional” resellers/scalpers though, which can be found here:

Jessie Mueller My Fair Lady?  Sep 22 2018, 10:23:01 AM

If the box office is seen as faltering, perhaps Laura could be the first to portray a new Eliza. Playing for more laughs, perhaps with a touch of bawdiness. Or maybe not."

That'll kill this production in less than a month.

Did this really happen at Spring Awakening  Sep 15 2018, 05:01:54 AM

quizking101 said: "While I can’t confirm this story, onstage antics do occur.

There was an incident at the play HAND TO GOD years ago where someone jumped on stage preshow to plug a phone into and outlet on the set...which was fake.
"

If memory serves, the outlet incident happened during a performance of Sylvia, not Hand to God.

Marin Mazzie Has Passed Away  Sep 14 2018, 01:20:18 AM

My heart just sank. I liked Kelli O'Hara in The King and I, but there was so much more that Marin Mazzie brought to the role. Her warmth, her love, her care, and that kindred spirit! I'm just grateful that I got to witness an extraordinary performance by such a beautiful soul and sad that many others will not have to chance to.

re: If your life was a Broadway musical  Sep 10 2018, 10:30:18 AM
Overture: “Brown Betty” from The Color Purple

Waking up in the morning: “Bring Him Home” from Les Miz Uh...Okay.

First day at school: “All I Need Is the Girl” from Gypsy
I prefer books.

Falling in love: “The Letter” from Billy Elliot.

Fight song: “Something’s Coming” from West Side Story Could it be? Yes it could!

Breaking up: “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” from Cabaret. Ugh.. Not expecting breaking up can be this scary.

My Fair Lady being taped  Sep 10 2018, 09:57:46 AM
If you want to know how fast a thread can derail...

As for the filming, it would be a dream come true if we can get the Lauren Ambrose version on PBS or in movie theaters. However, I do think You Did It would be a challenging scene to capture on film. There are two sets of actions happening and the same time, and intercutting them, if not done right, would seem manipulative and jarring to some extent.

Eating in the theatre. Thoughts?  Sep 10 2018, 09:50:59 AM
Well, when I saw the horrible Roundabout revival of The Cherry Orchard, two 20-something girls sitting next to me were gnawing popcorn the entire show. It was already a torture to have to sit through that not so funny travesty on stage; and not being able to retire to a more satisfying world in my head due to the cacophony only adds more misery to an already miserable night.

Once On This Island filmed?  Sep 10 2018, 09:28:04 AM
I’m not sure if the rule has changed, but you are not allowed to view shows that are currently playing on Broadway.

In The Heights Revival  Sep 9 2018, 11:42:59 PM

I would love to see the London production crossing the pond to Circle in the Square. The intimacy adds so much to the sheer energy that I don't think a proscenium theater can manage to exude.

Love, Simon as a Musical  Sep 9 2018, 11:38:01 PM

Ugh... The poster is hideous to put it mildly and captures nothing about the show/franchise except its remote resemblance to High School Musical.

Laura Benanti sings 'Send in the Clowns' ... as Melania Trump  Aug 28 2018, 05:23:06 PM

Mister Matt said: "Plus, why attack Melania Trump? What the hell DID SHE DO except marrying a rich guy

Seriously? You think that's it? The First Lady is just someone who happened to marry some guy who became President, has no role to fill, no duties, no responsibilities, no liabilities, nothing? And that "marrying a rich guy" is how it all went down in the first place? You might want to do some Googling. Start with something easy like Melania+Michell

Eyeroll.

"

If you are against Trump, argue against his policies, his words and actions, with logic and evidence not logical fallacies. Ad hominem doesn't work except for some cheap laughs. Hell, it doesn't even amount to comedy because it doesn't have the ring of truth that makes comedy enjoyable and relevant. Plus, why
