Tootsie or Moulin Rouge?  Mar 11 2019, 08:50:30 PM

I'd avoid "Frozen" but I understand you don't have a choice.

I haven't seen "Moulin Rouge" but "Tootsie" was absolutely wonderful. The cast, the script, the songs. I'm looking forward to seeing it on Broadway. If its improved even just a bit, it will be amazing. Plus, just watching Santino Fontana excel in a starring role , makes this show a must see.

Please explain to me how King Kong, Aladdin, Frozen, and Mean Girls are jukebox musicals...?

Sorry, it probably should have read "plus any othe

Beetlejuice vs. Tootsie vs. Ain't Too Proud  Mar 6 2019, 11:01:28 PM

Tootsie. My only complaint about the out of town try out was that the amazing Michael McGrath was underused. Beetlejuice, if you must. Ain't Too Proud isn't worth it.

AIDA revival?  Mar 1 2019, 02:59:32 PM

Constellation Theatre in DC did a production this year which had an all black cast. Quite frankly, I enjoyed their production much more than the Broadway one. Their set was simple and yet effective and they cut the ridiculous museum setting bookending the show. Amneris just opens the show with her song and it ends  with the promise that their love will bring them together again ... no museum meeting. I'm never going to be a fan of the Elton Johns score , which I find quite ugly - but

Singin' in the Rain  Mar 1 2019, 02:38:44 PM

Four stars - Jean Hagen  steals every scene she is in as Lina Lamont and basically walks away with the movie without doing a full musical number.

Ain't Too Proud the next Jersey Boys?  Feb 26 2019, 10:56:35 PM

This has the makings of a huge heartfelt hit

^ I saw the shown in DC. It was boring and bland. Sure, it could be a hit on broadway for all the wrong reasons. Pure jukebox crap.

KISS ME, KATE (2019 Roundabout Revival) - Previews  Feb 12 2019, 09:33:38 PM

Hopefully the changes will be better than "On the Twentieth Century". Her lyrics were laughably bad. Considering her other "accomplishments", would she ever get hired if she wasn't Adolph Green's daughter?

Beautiful to give federal furloughed workers free admission  Jan 22 2019, 09:21:26 PM

The Metropolitan Opera announced three days ago it was giving out pairs of free tickets to the furloughed federal workers.

Nice to see the producers of "Beautiful" following their lead.

Unpopular Opinions  Dec 30 2018, 12:16:57 AM

Niles Silvers said: "I'm glad Julie Andrews did not get the Eliza role in the film version of My Fair Lady. Frankly, her (almost) too sickeningly sweet demeanor would have been a bit much. Audrey Hepburn was perfect for the role and brought just right amount of spice and star power. She was also treated in a most unkind manner by the public and press at the time."

Interesting...... Wrong!!!!! Ms Hepburn Sucked!

Oklahoma transferring to Circle in the Square...  Dec 11 2018, 10:05:28 PM

I am so thrilled . This is wonderful for St Anns Warehouse. Having been on the Board of the Arts Center and the vestry of the petty and hateful  Parish that started them, I am so thrilled that the Arts is flourishing.

Why Don't More Broadway Divas Work Together?  Dec 10 2018, 11:42:13 PM

SweetLips22 said: "Prima Donna-behaves like a goddess or queem

The term "Prime Donna"  (translated first lady) means  the leading singer of an opera company. It does not mean behaves like a goddess or queen (not queem - spellcheck is your friend). That definition is more modern and is WRONG.

What's next for the Circle In The Square?  Nov 27 2018, 09:22:08 PM

I really hope "Oklahoma" is going there.

The Hard Problem  Nov 27 2018, 09:20:45 PM

Having seen one production of this play , I never want to see it again.

What's next for the Circle In The Square?  Nov 27 2018, 07:40:03 PM

When the "Titanic"revival was originally done for Signature Theatre, it was  in the round, but they had a balcony (also in the round). That is essential for the design. I'd see this more at a proscenium theatre before Circle

Falsettos Tour Cast  Nov 27 2018, 01:39:06 PM

I really wish this tour wasn't happening. Signature Theatre in Arlington had planned on doing it this season but had the rights pulled out from them when the tour was announced. I can't even imagine what a wonderful job this company would do with the show. I do know this show will not work in most touring venues. The show was off broadway when it opened individually and it should have stayed that way. Luckily on Broadway they put it in one of the smaller theatres. This show will sink
