Drama Book Shop closing next year  Oct 24 2018, 09:14:30 PM

I am devastated to hear this. I really hope they can figure something out or re-open still in the theatre district. I've feared this news for a long time. I almost always buy something when I visit there even when I don't need to just to support everything that shop represents for bookstores, independent businesses, and theater.

After 25 Years, The Curtain Closes On "Theatre Talk"  Sep 16 2018, 10:05:49 PM

I'm really sad about this. I especially enjoyed the fall/spring previews and Tony predictions editions with the array of critics

DEH Stage Door  Sep 11 2018, 10:28:03 PM

Yes haha, of course we are seeing the show

DEH Stage Door  Sep 11 2018, 06:59:34 PM

Thank you everyone. If anyone else can give some info on particular actors, that would be great.

This is a group of high school students & I fully expect them to behave well. If they don't, that will not be tolerated by me! A few are big DEH fans and wanted to do the stage door so I thought I would look into it. The idea of splitting into two groups is a good one!

DEH Stage Door  Sep 10 2018, 11:35:16 PM

I'm bringing a group of students to Dear Evan Hansen in a few weeks. Can anyone tell me how the stage door is these days? Who comes out on a regular basis? Thanks!!

The 2018-2019 Broadway Season - Confirmed Productions  Sep 6 2018, 06:03:07 PM

ACL2006 said: "The Shubert will be available, but the likelihood of something moving in there in time for the Tony cut-off seems unlikely(Mockingbird closes March 17)."

Is that confirmed? I know that's all it's on sale for now but is it possible/likely it will extend?

Summer just got extended to next August, and is Kinky boots really closing? or do you think it will close?

Those are my guesses, not any sort of insider knowledge

That's not true. When I was posting on social media about going to see the show in July, friends of mine(not the major theatre buffs)asked me if "Monk" was there or how "Monk" was in the show

Ragtime Revival  Aug 7 2018, 11:28:36 PM
I would love to see Kelli O'Hara as Mother in a Bart Sher directed Ragtime at the Beaumont. Agreed that Josh Henry would be a good Coalhouse but would prefer someone other than Erivo for Sarah

What's Next for the Imperial?  Aug 7 2018, 11:24:15 PM

Tag said: "I can't understand people (like Feldman) who believe Moulin Rouge could sweep into the Imperial in a month or so. You can't just wave a magic wand and make everyone schedules suddenly available."

You are misreading that tweet. He's saying the Imperial will be open in a month or so, not that Moulin Rouge could arrive in a month or so

CAROUSEL Closing 9/16  Aug 7 2018, 10:00:08 PM
I liked the show, particularly the cast who overcame questionable direction. Sad to see it close but not shocked. I wonder if Beautiful or Waitress could lure Jessie Mueller back for a closing run in a couple months

Bronx Tale Final Curtain Call  Aug 5 2018, 09:18:56 PM
I did not enjoy the show but it had an impressive rub. Far longer than I think pretty much anyone thought it could do.

Riedel on the growing hype for Moulin Rouge!  Aug 3 2018, 03:21:51 PM

I still think the Winter Garden is a better option for this show than the Hirschfeld and we already know for sure the WG will be open come January.

I wonder if the growing buzz will make them consider opening in time for the 2019 Tonys especially since it looks like another weakish season.

I'm not much of an economist so someone who's good at analyzing profit, please answer this. Is it a bit of a problem that 19 of the 32 shows currently on Broadway are grossing over $1,000,000? In fact, really only 6 or 7 shows are in what you might describe as a "negative financial situation". How is this not a problem? We've already seen how the average theatregoer is more willing to spend money on a commercialized

Most creative/interesting curtain calls you've seen?  Jul 28 2018, 11:48:50 PM

^^ I was just gonna comment that I think School of Rock is really creative with their curtain call

One thing I strongly dislike is when everyone bows together with no individual or group bows. I understand why some shows do that but I always feel a little cheated because there are always some cast members I want to show more enthusiasm towards than others.

re: Musicals that SHOULDN'T be done in high schools...but have...  Jul 23 2018, 01:17:17 AM

I think provocative musicals that may have some sexual content (Spring Awakening, Rent) can be more appropriate for high school students than musicals like Company or Follies, where it would be incredibly hard for teenagers to play roles that require some serious life experience to actually even understand, much less perform. That said, I think it varies a lot on the community and there are plenty of communities out there still where a Spring Awakening or Rent is still a bad idea.

Musicals due for a revival  Jul 19 2018, 11:15:57 AM

I was at a Q&A forum with Lynne Ahrens about a year ago and someone asked about a Seussical revival. She said she didn't want it to happen - the original experience was so traumatizing and she and Flaherty are quite content with it being a huge hit in amateur theatres and schools. Not saying it wouldn't happen in the right situation but it sounds like there's not a real desire from the creators.
